I think it is pretty definite that the jerseys will be green.

Yes, you are very biased against Oregon! I don't think we need to go through all of the big wins they have accumulated over the past 5 to 10 years, do we?

I've never claimed not to be biased against Oregon. It's not so much the school, as their fans. You know how teenagers start to get a little taste of independence and responsibility, and they suddenly seem to think that they know all there is to know about the world? Well, Oregon fans are like teenagers, in College Football: they've had some success, and they now think that they know everything about how college football works.

But I'd be interested to hear what you think are "big" wins for Oregon, in the past 5 to 10 years, that came against someone outside of their conference......

We had guys wear pink arm bands and stuff for the AF game. I'm sure that will probably be the only pink for this game as well.

With pink letters as JeremyND07 pointed out? I could see that as "Not even Oregon is doing this"

Green and pink? Might as well name the uniforms, Blacked out drunk toilet spackle, because that is exactly what I'm reminded of when I see pink and green together.

Yeah, one was Tony Rice. The last QB we had that led us to a National Championship. Notre Dame just picked the right one to let in because he was special and Lou knew it, so he fought to get the kid in.

There were 3 Prop 48s at ND in '86, Rice and John Foley in football and Keith Robinson in basketball. All 3 graduated but ND decided never to do that again as those students were isolated rather than mainstreamed with the student body.

BTW, Foley was the higher rated prospect. He was the USA Defensive Player of The Year. Foley had a career ending injury in '87 but with his ND degree he was just as successful in the business world as he had been on the field.

Something is wrong when Notre Dame fans (who are fans of possibly the most tradition-rich program in college football) are clamoring to be more like Oregon (a Johnny-come-lately, Nouveau riche, brash and, at times, unseemly program).

I am against being a slave to tradition when it puts you in a competitive disadvantage, which is why I support installing field turf and a jumbotron. I also agree that part of Notre Dame's tradition is being a trend setter and daring to do things a bit differently, which is why the overreaction to sensible change among a certain segment of the fan base is a bit misguided.

But I also think we need to really think about how outrageous we want to be with changes to the jerseys and things like that. Oregon NEEDED to do that, because they had no other identity as a program. That isn't true of Notre Dame. I'm not against making some fun changes on occasion, like the jerseys we wore against Michigan, or wearing a variation of the green once a year. That is cool. If recruits like it, even better. But ND does not need to do anything as drastic and chintzy as gold, black or pink jerseys. That isn't Notre Dame. ND is about class and dignity, not creating a "buzz" by wearing ugly jerseys. Notre Dame needs to find the appropriate balance between keeping up with the times and staying true to its legacy and what it stands for.

No reason to get on the high horse. I was joking when I posted the pink jersey comment

I personally wouldn't mind seeing pink jerseys since it is October and breast cancer awarness month. My almater has worn pink jerseys in October the past two years and it looks very good and classy on the field. Plus I don't think Oregon has worn pink jerseys yet.
Sorry didn't read the previous posts before I posted this.

Sorry, man. My post was not about your idea. And truthfully, I never saw your post. I didn't see where the pink idea came from, I just saw it mentioned and threw it into my post, which was more in response to this entire thread, generally, not any specific comment or idea.

Green jerseys from USC. Chance we wear something different for the BC game and the Maryland game. That's it.

I won't be the least bit surprised if we see this jersey in it's home rendition unveiled this weekend.

^Completely agree. I will admit that I enjoy creating a buzz. I like when you go against the grain. It's one game. Have some fun, even if it's with tacky uniforms. Chintzy uniforms for a single game won't change what ND represents to me personally. I may like the uni's, I may hate them. Regardless, I'll have fun watching the game and seeing something different.

Fair enough. Nothing would please me more than seeing the home version of the Michigan game jerseys, and at this point I'd be a little surprised if we didn't see that. All signs are pointing to a "green out" and with Michigan wearing the away version of their jerseys from that game this past weekend, it looks like that is where we're headed.

I think this "green out" is going to be an epic fail. Even if green shirts (large enough to fit over jackets/coats) are handed out at the gates, good luck getting the majority of fans to actually wear them. The quiet, "sit down in your seats or I'll have you kicked out" crowd will scoff at the idea, imo.

You're alright. I do agree with the rest of your post though, in that tradition is our identity. However, I kind of like the change of pact uniforms such as the green uniforms, as long as we keep it classy and not flashy...

I'm still trying to figure out where this sentiment comes from. I've been to a handful of games in South Bend over the last 5 or 6 years, and never once have run into someone upset at people standing and cheering.

You've been lucky not to have them in your section then. They do exist.

Thanks for re-posting. I think they look great. I'd be perfectly fine if that's what we saw Saturday night.

Yeah they do. That was my biggest disappointment when attending my one and only Notre Dame game. I wanted to stand, like I do at Bengals games, everyone around me was sitting and seemed agitated when I stood up. I had season tickets to the Bengals for 10 years and everyone in my section stood pretty much the entire game. I guess it's just about getting lucky at Notre Dame games. I was amazed at how quiet it actually was and the lack of enthusiasm around the place. Most beautiful campus place I've ever been to but it was also the quietest.
