Do we know which of these recruits are planning to EE? Those that do, obviously will commit earlier. This alone, will clear up the picture moving forward the last few months before NSD.

Shepard, Greenberry, Darby, Day.

Keith Marshall is planning on it, wherever he goes.

I should have been more clear. I meant of the un-committed recruits visiting, who are most likely to EE? Is K. Marshall the only one?

Also, what is our maximum EE's this cycle? Is the coaching staff allowed to dictate who can/cannot EE? For example: Hypothetically, lets say every ND commit is set up for EE (I realize not every kid will meet the early graduation requirements, nor do all of them volunteer missing the last semester of high school, but for sake of the example lets assume). Can BK look at these commits, see who's most likely to make an instant impact, and allow them to EE, thus making the rest of the class wait until summer? If this is the case, you'd almost have to bet that the skill players will be taken first, right? It seems obvious that the glaring hole in next year's roster is the secondary and receiving core. It's huge that Shepard, Greenberry, and Darby are all planning to EE. Day, not so much at this point (I'm assuming he'll redshirt).

Also, what is our maximum EE's this cycle?.

We can take a max of 6 EEs this year.

I've also heard conflicting reports about Darby. Some say he'll EE; others claim that Track will prevent him from graduating early.

Most seem to think Darby is a bit of a project at DB. Enrolling early would benefit him greatly at that position. However, he's going to play on ST regardless. He's one of the best track athletes in the country. If he decides to finish out high school for that reason, it would be hard to argue with him.

So if six is the max this year, would you agree that the staff should (if they could) select those six that will have the best chance at seeing the field early over someone like Day, who I assume will redshirt? It just seems logical to get your impact players on campus earlier and give them a head start at learning the system and getting acclimated to college life and the strength and conditioning program.

Correct, latest I heard was that he will not be an EE because of track.

ND just recently started accepting EEs. AFAIK, we've never maxed our EE potential, let alone been in a situation to pick and choose who EEs.

Obviously EEs from our top secondary recruits would be very helpful, since they're the most likely to see the field early in 2012, but at this point I'll be happy if we just manage to get 6 guys to EE at all. Not all of our recruits are able to graduate earlier, and even fewer are interested in cutting their high school experience short (spring sports, prom, etc.)

I agree. I was just wondering if the situation presented itself this year or in the future, if it would be taken into consideration by the coaches.

if there is a "likely" commit this weekend it will be from soeone who has already visited (Byron Marshall, Zach Banner, Bryce Treggs). This weekend really will just let us know where ND stands with most of these kids

So who do you guys feel is next. I think it would be great for us to get Ifeadi Odenigbo. I think after this weekend we need some better backers especially OLB.

I never like to guess because I'm afraid of jinxing, but I'll say Kiel and Banner.

I hope. The dominos would like fall if he would commit. I just hope he wants to stay around here and that is the reason he committed to IU

Maty Mauk...

Oh wait, I'm a little late on this discussion.

Seriously though.

We need a "franchise" QB. Someone along the lines of Quinn/Clausen.

Gunner could be what Dayne wasn't.

Someone who could handle a snap? :brokenhea

Seriously though, Gunner has to know the opportunity that awaits him here.

Gunner can and should come in and challenge to start right away. He basically runs our offense, has the arm to make all the throws and is mobile. I don't want to give the kid to much credit but he reminds me of Andrew Luck a lot.

I would be elated if Gunner decided to come here and be the next QB to elevate us to the next level. All he has to do is watch Tommy and really see that if he is the starter there isn't a huge hill he has to climb to be the starter. If Tommy is the peak that mountain sure isn't that high!

Please Gunner come in and start something new here!

Kiel or Odenigbo would be very nice. It is evident that Notre Dame needs some competent gentlemen on the edges defensive, and a more potent weapon taking the snaps.

Who's more important between the two? I say Odenigbo. Only because I still love Hendrix and Golson in ways a fan shouldn't. :) But if USC has taught us anything, it's that too many good quarterbacks is never a problem.

Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, John David Booty, Matt Barkley. It's unbelievable. I have jumped on board with the group of people saying Notre Dame needs to take a stud QB every class and let them compete in practice.

Defensively, guys like Thompson and Odenigbo would help so much that I don't even know how to put it into words.

There is no way in hell that Kiel does not look at Rees' (lack of) arm strength and know that he can make throws that Rees simply cannot.

It will get real interesting what will happen at Notre Dame with Rees having two years of eligibility left after this season. You can't pin any of these losses solely, or even the majority of one, on him specifically but it's clear as day this offense, against premier talent, isn't what it can and should be.

I may be the only one but I would like to give Hendrix and Golson a shot before determing that Gunner will bring ND to the next level.

For the record I would absolutely be glad and elated if Gunner commited but I would not want him to just be given the reigns from the get go ala Clausen because of his stars or potential.

I agree, but it really all depends on who shows it in practice.

I'm actually a really big Golson fan.

Well I think you'd be a fool to get a commitment from Gunner Kiel and then completely disregard the two guys on this roster who have a ton of potential too.

Letting Gunner verbal would be the opposite of a good move. Go back and watch Golson's tape. Oh, and he knows what it is like to win.

I am thinking the next guy to come would be Odenigbo, which is who I previously thought as well.

So you guys want to pass up on a 5 star recruit cause you think another guy has potential? I am a HUGE Golson fan but he needs to hit the books. Bring in Gunner and let him do his thing and compete and may the best man win. To pass him up would be Schutt like and we wont go over that again.

The best quarterback prospect committing to Notre Dame would be a bad move?
