Will ND groundskeepers be able to learn that skill sometime in the near future? Game one and the field looked like a dog track. WTF is up with that?

Just sayin'

They did attempt to play in a freaking monsoon. Something tells me that the field took just a bit of water. Just sayin' ;)

Yea if that is going to be the case, field turf that thing. It looked burnt and gross from the get go. You should have seen that field turf glistening under the lights, sharp. I'm not gonna lie, the lame house looked sweet Saturday. The boxes are nice, make the stadium look huge, hold sound I'm sure. Then you got the big screens, these are niiiice...full hd, beautiful picture. I was in the end zone and it was a good perk to occasionally watch a play on the board if you didn't have a good view...or watch the replay. Piped in music was sick...just got the crowd juiced! Then u have the maize wore by most, if not they had maize pom poms(I called them girly, could be towels...but when 110000 are whipped around in unison it did look cool. I wasn't completely on board to see ND stadium make tons of changes, but after being in that hostile environment...I would be in favor of changes at ND. If I was a recruit at that game I would have a hard time saying no to the skunks. Granted the alcohol probably fueled a lot of it, but still I see a huge difference. I was getting amped just watchin, looked like the ND players even fed off the energy at times even when it was directed at scUM. Man why couldn't we have won!? See the game on ESPN classic right now, bringing back all sorts of nightmares.

part of this has to do with the fact that when the stadium was built, rockne had that turf moved from the old field. however we could easily go with a hybrid system like in greenbay or half the soccer stadiums in the world

I'm so down for the field turf for sure. I'm not sold on the jumbotron though.

It looked like $@#% from the first snap.

I was on the field for the whole game. I specifically remember thinking to myself when I was out there for warm-ups, "wow, this grass looks incredibly pristine." The grass looked beautiful at least when we started out. Coming off of the field at halftime i noticed that some spots had been torn up from people slipping, but most of the field still looked in pretty good shape. Maybe it just looks worse on tv?

I was there...LIVE and in person also. Grass near midfield and other areas looked like ****....painted dirt and clumps of grass.

Could be numerous things. What was the weather like in South Bend this summer? Hot and Humid? Lots of rain? Probably stressed from that and then the few days before the game were really warm for Sept. Add to that playing in that downpour. It was coming up in chunks. Thing that sucks is its going to be hard to get it back this year. I would like to see them keep it real grass but if it becomes a liability then its time for field turf.

I've said this before on another thread, but I love playing on grass. It's just...part of the game. I find that you can absolutely trash the thing on a sloppy day beautiful. I seriously would never trade a turf field for a grass field (as a player).

I imagine I'm in the minority on this one though. lol

So I know this thread is supposed to be about the 'grass' but rather than opening a new thread, I figured we could tie in 'stadium conversations' in general. What is your 'vision' of a jumbotron!? See I guess what the scUM have isn't really a jumbotron in my definition. Its just a big screen, no advertisements, excessive banter surrounding the screen, just a screen. I'd be OK with that.

I am one who is NO to both. I agree the grass does need something done to it. Maybe a better grass? Maybe a hybrid with some turf mixed in? Either way I want the real deal. GRASS. And I love not having the Jumbotron. There is something unique about not having it.

The good thing about having real grass is you get dirty and makes it look like you played a game.

Knute Rockne was an innovator. We should be the 1ST to have these "innovations," not the last.

Ok so my bad on bringing the jumbotron talk into this thread. As I view another tread(Congrats from a Wolverine fan) I see this same discussion. If a MOD wants to move my jumbotron comments into that thread (even tho it really shouldn't be there) I'm fine with that!

I'm a real grass kind of cat...but maybe my experiences are dated...all I know is the crap they had for turf when I suited up burned. I'd rather dislocate a finger, and play through that than turf burn...sh!t just burned like a cold sore all day...nothing helped.
