Our lacrosse, soccer and soon-to-be-finished hockey arenas are all nicer than our football stadium. That is so sad.

Enough "tradition"... give me a well-done jumbotron and field turf.

Yeah I think ND needs a bigger or new stadium or a major expansion. The recruits come in and they see all those nice facilities and it makes them want to go there. Michigan has spent a fortune since about 2006. Michigan has done a complete 180 and upgraded everything you can possibly think of from weight rooms to luxury boxes, to a press conference center to the Al Glick Indoor practice facility. Even Crisler Arena (basketball) and Yost Arena (hockey) are getting a much-needed facelift.

I'm sure the entire ND stadium would appreciate a video screen. My opinion on grass fields: Go watch Michigan vs Purdue at home in 1995.....And that's why I never want to see another grass field at Michigan Stadium. The weather destroys it. We had to cancel two Spring Games because of it.

If you support either of stadium upgrades, I recommend using other terms for them; traditionalists instinctively cringe whenever "jumbotron" and "fieldturf" are mentioned.

"Video board" and "reinforced natural grass system" go over better in my experience.

I've been wondering when you guys are gonna add video screens. I remember ND has had their current scoreboards for quite some time now.

A jumbotron at ND Stadium is a root canal issue like names on jerseys. Fans are sharply divided. As Lax noted the purists, traditionialists don't want it. The young, high tech crowd does.

Under our last AD there was a big fear of rampant commericalism on a jumbotron. I've been to several stadiums like Doak Campbell where the ads are nonstop. Add to that ND's custom of thanking the cafeteria staff, janitorial staff, campus cops, etc, during game timeouts and halftime. There's a segment of ND fans that don't think they'll get to see much football, particularly controversial calls that might evoke disharmony among the fans in the stadium.

Another issue is further blocking Touchdown Jesus. The upper ring of seats started that. Then the location of the scoreboards at the endzones added to it. A jumbotron screen would blot out most of it althought there are other locations where they could be placed.

ND's President Jenkins, the AD Swarbrick, and Coach Kelly might make it happen. They've already changed a number of former no-nos at ND like the training table, and night games. I never thought there would be a night on ND's campus due to a lawsuit years ago.

Next year, will Michigan be going for a 4th straight 4 point win in the 4th quarter? The trifecta of fours.

The trifourta, have you.

And for the jumbotron and field turf...I personally don't like field turf from a player stand point. I love the feel of playing on grass. The fact that the field gets torn up is beautiful. As for the jumbotron, I just don't like that because I'm a traditionalist and watch all my games at home anyways so it doesn't affect me at all. lol

So I am one of the faults in the "traditionalists = old guys" theory.

Didn't ND have names on their jerseys in the Hawaii Bowl back in 2008?

We've did it in a bowl or two and I think under Faust but not sure as I try to block out those years. Names on jerseys are another controversial issue among the traditionalists and younger fans. The TEAM versus ME issue.

The thing that needs to be changed the most is that dark cloud over the field that keeps causing losses

Bowl games are the only times ND allows names on the jerseys. It's a way to spotlight player achievement.

They did in '82 when ND beat Dan Marino and #1 Pit on the road. I've got a picture and can see names on ND jerseys.

There some horror movies where there are two children and one of them is actually Satan or possessed by devils or some $hit like that. The normal, good child is a problem child causing mischief but still a legitimate human child who is mostly good. However, the demon spawn gets the kid in trouble and the parents inevitably go on the demon child's side until they are killed or the demon is vanquished. That seems a lot like what's going on with rtrn2glory and your new best buddy the gloating wolverine and his helpful suggestions about our old and terrible stadium.

Seriously? At the momment, Wolverine is being a respectful member of this forum, who is part of the general conversation of this thread. Yes I f'n hate his team but the game is over and we lost fair and square. Now its college football fans simply discussing a topic. Just chill out man.

He is being respectful, but I have to admit, I find it odd someone being a member of a rival's team board. Maybe I have too much going on, but I would never join a Michigan, Michigan State, or USC board. I'd feel like I was trolling even if I was being sincere.

I have an account on mgoblog. I go on there to discuss college football with a rival. Thats the purpose of these websites, is it not...? To discuss college football.

It's much easier to keep up with your enemies this way, I don't like ND (you've dropped to third from second since msu keeps beating us), but I really do enjoy most of the posters on here. Lots of insight into the ND program.

I have a hard time understanding how any Michigan fan can really hate ND anymore.

We're not rivals; OOC, no ND countdown clock in your locker room. You've won 5 of the last 6; you always seem to beat us, regardless of who has the better team on paper.

And we're really f*cking nice to you guys, on our message boards and when you show up for our home games.

Maybe that's our problem. Nice guys finish last.

The last 3 games were decided by 4 points. I don't think you understand the point of a rivalry. These games are supposed to be grinders. We are supposed to go down to the wire.

I, for one, am happy that ND vs. Michigan is a heated contest again. College football isn't the same without a ND Michigan slugfest.

Was USC v. ND a "slugfest" during the 2000s? Some of those games came down to the wire, but we never won. That's no rivalry.

ND vs. USC is not a rivalry?

Have you ever been to one of those games?

I haven't expressed my point very well.

My argument is that once the W/L ratio gets lopsided, especially when you don't share a conference, the rivalry is cheapened.

since 1980 Michigan is 13-12 and 1 tie vs the Irish, that is a rivalry. Recent history hasn't been kind to you, but it hasn't been kind to us vs. the bucks either but that doesn't mean I've forgotten about the Cooper ( <3 ya Coop ) years. I really think once Kelly gets going in SB y'all will be a contender again.
