^This. The defense looked good after that 1st series. One touchdown against. As was the case a couple times last year the defense did well with back against the wall. We need to move on and control the game against Michigan.

This is the difference between ND's schedule and other programs. All the big time programs play "tuneup" games, where you can make mistakes and over come them. S. Florida is a pretty solid first opponent.

I agree. We are still a better team, we just haven't gotten it done today. Stats don't count, but I'd be willing to say that if we played the again, we'd win easily.

257 yards for USF and BJ Daniels.

No question who the better team was; and no question who the more disciplined team was. Today Discipline>Talent/performance

It will suck to lose and be 0-1 (if that happens); but there is a ton to believe in and build on.
Defense bent early but improved until that one long td drive.
Got some freshman/sophmores good playing time.
Rees looks good and crisp.
Wood is set for a big year - but may not be able to takemcuh more than 20 carries per game - looks a little fragile taking big hits and blocks.
Floyd is Floyd - tough to stop - 146 yards - and has chemistry with Rees.

Fix the mistakes and mental errors, and we'd all be talking about how great they are. But as it is, today was very disappointing.

I would start Crist. That way he doesn't suffer major depression lol, but Crist was trying to spread it around in the first half to different receivers. He wasn't making good throws but all Rees does is look for floyd 95% of the time. It works, but teams will start to shut down floyd and then we're really screwed

Need to score a TD with like 2:30 minimum left to have a chance without receovering an onside kick. One timeout makes it so that USF can only run off about 1:20-1:30 of the clock. Then we get the ball back with just under a minute and need FG range. Going to be tough, but the extra 30 mins should give Kelly the best oppurtunity to pull together a Weis-like 2-minute drill.

Well said. We would win I say 7-10 maybe 8-10 times. This is a learning game. As much as we, as fans, know that ND shouldn't have learning games, we must remember that this team is not a Top Tier team..... YET. We are/will getting there. Improvement week in and week out will take us there.
