TOMMY JUST GOT SCHUTT DOWN!

LMAO!

"Sh!t (Schutt) or get off the pot." ~ Unknown ND Smart @$$

On a lighter note, I hope this kid gets a Schutt, I mean a shot.

I dunno: Day, Schutt, and Jones would be the best interior haul of the decade.

Actually I feel bad for the kid. ND and Michigan in one day is a bad day. I wish him the best.

Does anyone know if he was going to commit on Tuesday when he visited?

Lots of angst over this!
Sorry if these points have already been made, I didn't read all 71 pages.
1. Kelly recruits 3 categories, "skill, big skill & power", usually not for specific positions.
2. We NEVER seem to have enough quality depth on the DL.
3. Seems like I read somewhere a few months ago, that the staff was actually looking at Schutt as an OG.
4. With 14 current seniors eligible for a 5th year, I would guess that the staff will keep about 6 of those, which means we have room for 8 more recruits in 2012. My guess is 2 RB, 2 more WR, 1 more DB, 1 more OLB, and 2 more power (DL/OL).
5. The recruiting focus has narrowed and I believe the staff is working on all 5* & 4* players now.
Leads me to a couple of conclusions: If they are backing off of Schutt, they must feel pretty confident about getting Jones & at least one of those 5* OL still on the board.
Or there is some other issue.

This whole ordeal reminds me of what K. Russel said BK told him "We can get any player in the country but we want you". Hopefully this gets the message out to the players who are strongly considering ND but holding off on committing to get attention/courted by other teams.

Staff's not f-n around!

Have to say the summer was getting a little long and the boards a little boring. I hate this drama but it's somewhat addictive at the same time!!!

With the Michigan news now out we are definitely missing a piece of the story... can't wait to find out what it is but would hate to see him in Anne Harbourg.

In a meeting all day. Logged on to ISD, and they were having a meltdown. Came here, same thing. But everybody was fine; there was not anyone out of line at all. I start my lonnnnggg days of teaching/coaching this month, so someone else will have to police the board during the day.
. . .

Ahhhhh, the joys of the message boards and their wildfire stories/lies/misconjecture...

Maybe you could use a nice cold cranberry juice?

I may just be pissin in the wind here, but...

Hypothetically, let's say (god forbid) one of our current recruits decides to decommit. We all know that recruiting is a looonngg process, and it ain't over til it's over- see Aaron Lynch

My point being, sometime down the line on this recruiting cycle, what if a spot were to open up for Mr. Schutt, whether it be from decommit or whatever.

I just wonder if this is really over...

it would be hard for me if i were schutt to come to south bend should they decide to come calling after all that has taken place that past few hours...i think this is over and it's time for both parties to move on.

Is anyone else surprised that T Schutt offered up his offer being pulled to the media so freely? I'm just noting it takes a set of stones to admit your offer was pulled a few days before wanting to commit.

I will keep my comments to myself on this cause i dont feel like getting kicked off the board. BTW i know people two weeks ago were begging me to tell me who the next commit was and it was Schutt from what i was told from a good source from home. Than the smoke yesterday was about this. To pull his scholly when we have other guys at the postion names i wont mention. But this just blows my mind. But whatever theres a reason Brian Kelly coaches college football and i just sit here and write about it. Good luck to Tommy i will for sure being pulling for me him in the future.

Sort of like when Charlie told Mike Martin "sorry Charlie".Only to come back begging him when Omar the tent maker screwed us.

Setting my feelings as a ND fan aside, I do feel AWFUL for Tommy. I think as Irish fans we have seen through the years how difficult it can be for 17-18 year old kids to make a decision that is going to impact the rest of their lives. Set the football aspect of it aside, and this kid was less than a week away from committing to one of the greatest academic and networking Universities in the US and possibly the world. In less than 24 hours he has had his dream of attending that school smashed, then immediately afterwards pretty much got "talk to the hand" from another potential suitor he was interested in. This after knowing just a week ago that either one of these schools would have gladly accepted his commitment. After everything that goes into making a decision for these young men, then to have this happen to him all in a span of 24 hours, I really do feel a ton of sympathy for the young man. I hope in the end everything works out for him, and he ends up somewhere he ultimately wants to be, and is equally is wanted there. Recruiting is a crazy fast paced world, but it is also the lives of teenagers who for the most part have not been exposed to the harsh reality of the world that many of us have out there in the working world. I really wish we could have made room for Tommy, and February is a long ways off, maybe the staff will reconsider and he will allow us back into the picture if we have not burned the bridge too badly.

I'm with ya man. It seems like by all accounts the staff knew he was going to commit, then ran out and used that as leverage to get somebody else to commit first who they preferred more. Sh*t like that usually comes back to get you and certainly doesn't help get the good karma flowin. I know the staff is looking to add one more DB, but we have what 5 committed and Chris Badger coming back. We had a bird in hand, and a pretty good one at that. I dont see any reason to not accept his commit and scratch the 6th DB for this class...pick up the extra DB next year dammit. We have 2 absolute stud lock down corners in this class, and some other guys to add good depth between this year and last. Egg on our face if we end up striking out on the remaining elite DBs and take another project/depth CB instead of Schutt.

I'd let it rage. You're a million percent correct. I also understand the tact of not naming names... but we all know which under-sized, injury-prone and un-touted guys you are talking about. I also know that we have 3 kickers on scholarship and a LS in this class... and frankly I think common ****ing sense dictates you take as many DL as you think might help you out and worry about the fringe guys later.

Who knows if Charlie is still the coach if he lands Mike Martin. Michigan would be worse and our defense would've been improved... especially in the 4-3. I just think this is a critical error by Kelly taking commitments from too many depth guys... then again, Charlie's mistake was taking not enough depth guys.

And therein lies the problem of ND being honorable with four year scholarships versus schools that don't. Doing things the right way puts you in binds like this. But it's just the nature of the beast (I guess).

i couldnt agree more with you teo 4 heisman... u could of not word it any better than that... lets hope that the staff reconsiders and if tommy lets in back into the mix..... we can land this kid by nsd i dont see anything wrong if we loaded up the d line w/day,shutt, and jones lining up on a occasional 4-3 line like we did alot last yr ex; army game..navy exposed us and we countered with the 4-3 so why not room for the 3 headed monster day, shutt, and jones in one class? lets go kelly dont burn bridges
