Notre Dame football: Irish recruting in need of strong finish - southbendtribune.com

I agree we don't have to hava a QB this year. The Mauk/Kiel statements seem conflicting ... "Kelly wanted (Mauk) ... put all their eggs Gunner Kiel basket early ... losing him (Mauk) ???

Farrell thinks the class is a B- at this point. Same as last year at this time.

Greenberry, at this point, would be the quickest to help the team. He thinks Darby will need some schoolin' making the adjustment from RB to CB. Farrell also questions whether Shepard is a big CB or a Safety.

He sees Harrell and Turner as Sleepers. Turner could be OLB or BIG Safety at 225.

Thinks Kelly is getting the job done, recruitingwise:

He picks guys that he knows he can coach up, that are hard workers. And he makes football players better. Cincinnati never had a top 25 recruiting class when he was there, and look what he did with them

That's a good point about Cincinnatti's recruiting... From 2005 -2008 their best class according to scout.com was 70th. Impressive that they were a 12 win team his last year.

If you look at his Cincy classes it's all 2 and 3* kids with unimpressive offer lists. The thing is, even though he coached these kids up they still got rolled by a star laden Gator team. His platform has changed immensely at ND and he is getting great athletes.

He is going to prove just how much better of a "college" coach he is than Weis.

Fwiw, Kelly wasn't coaching in that game. No, I don't think they beat Florida anyways.... but probably would've been a bit more competitive.

Florida was going to destroy them regardless, in my opinion.

He was getting MAC-level athletes at Cincinnati whom he could coach up. This year he's getting legitimately outstanding athletes whom he knows he can coach up. I have all the confidence in the world that Kelly's staff knows what it's doing.

I'm not saying Cincy would have beat Florida, but the game should have been much more competitive. Cincy didn't show up for the game because their players were too busy sulking and feeling bad for themselves because their coach left them. A focused Cincy team with Kelly coaching would have put up a much better fight.

...

I still think Oklahoma is gonna kill Boise St in the '06 Fiesta Bowl.

No way Michigan could ever lose to a Divison 1aa team.

Alabama will never lose to a directional school.

Regardless of speculation, Kelly didn't coach against UF.
