if he gets offered that gives me the impression that mahone will not commit to us a week later.

my impression yes three RB's...a speed back, a power back, and utility multi threat guy...he looks like he fits the power mold, but reading his profile they said he can hit the home run so maybe we can land em both...that would be a great get back to back. if he's visiting he must really want the offer.

We're getting 3 RBs?? I thought they just wanted 2... After this year, we'll have Wood, Cam, Cam, GA3 (assuming he stays at RB), and the 2 incoming freshman.

A lot of people are speculating that GA3 will be back at receiver after this year.

GA3 is supposed to go back to WR and like rtrn to Glory said one power back one speed back and one multipurpose back he is an all around back but him and Mahone could be two of the solid backs

wouldn't surprise me though to see GA3 have a solid year and stay at RB.

I doubt we take 3 RBs. It's hard to get 3 RBs to commit in the same year. That's a lot of PT to fight over.

not when one of them is a hybrid type like theo...we're recruiting several RBs who have that type of skill set.

I don't know how to, and I've never bet a v-buck but I'll bet you every one I can that we take 2 and only 2 RBs this year.

That's bold lol. In the end you may be right, but apparently the staff have been telling recruits that they are looking for 3 this cycle. Granted the right combination of guys, including a hybrid slut guy ala Theo.

Lots of scenarios where that doesn't happen. They all involve a hybrid guy like Keivare Russel or an elite player like Keith Marshall committing late.

Can't have enough "hybrid slut guys" on your team...

I get that some are 'athletes' and haven't found out yet exactly where they'll play in college. Could be WR, could be RB, could be DB. My point is that if ND's trying to get 3 true RBs, that's a very tough sell because of the PT. Recruiting 2 RBs is fine because the 2 best RBs will always see PT in everygame. See Ingram and Richardson at AL.

I agree with you that they get 2 RBs then some guys that they'll find a spot for, possibly even at RB... I just don't think it's their goal to land 3 players that they want at RB.

That's the thing you appear not to be getting. They want one power RB, one speed RB, and one slot RB hybrid. Meaning two guys who will always play RB (one speed, the other power) and one guy who will only play RB if need be. The rest of his time will be spent in the slot.

Just to give you a little background on the 3 RB discussion, there was a quote from one of the RB recruits a while back that one of the coaches told him we were looking at possibly taking 3 RBs.

Couldn't you say that about every WR on the roster then? The 3rd guy's not recruited to play RB nor do they plan on using him there... It's just in case of emergency? Then that's not a 3rd RB, it's a slot receiver.

So, they're getting 2 RBs in this class then.

Could be, but that's a hell of a sell to the RBs. Like I said, I'll bet the house they only take 2 RBs.

But not all slots are recruited to be able to do both.

Bryce Treggs wouldn't be a hybrid like Keivarae Russell would be.

It's just an opinion, but I get the feeling that Kelly loves to have a kid who played running back in high school in the slot position. Just a thought.

Back to Darby now.....

Per ESPN

Matt Davis leads Southwest to title at Gridiron Kings - ESPN
Corey Long

Scary collision
Even in touch-rules football big collisions happen and the one involving Agholor, Darby and Richardson left all three players a little banged up.

Agholor, who left the event after Southeast's loss to play with his AAU basketball team, was bandaged above his eye while Darby had swelling in his leg and his hand.

"It was a bang-bang play and you know I tried to come over the top to help Terry when he really had everything under control," Darby said. "We all went up at the same time and ran into each other. I'm in a little pain but it's nothing serious."

Agholor said football is always a contact sport.

"It's a physical game regardless of whether it's tackle or not," Agholor added. "So these plays can happen."

Darby Shows Out

Darby Shows Out
Christian McCollum

KISSSIMMEE, Fla. – It may have been just a 7-on-7 showcase event, but if anybody had any doubts about how bad the players wanted to win at the Champion Gridiron Kings this past weekend, they were erased when Ronald Darby, Terry Richardson and Nelson Agholor collided in midair during the semifinals on Sunday.

All three players were sidelined for the remainder of the game, but all three were fine afterward. For Darby, a Notre Dame verbal commitment, he suffered a bruised knee.

“I just bumped it against Terry, but it’s OK,” Darby said afterward. “It just swelled up a little bit.”

Darby came back for the first drive of the title game against the Southwest, but was pulled when Texas wide receiver commit Thomas Johnson caught three straight passes on him, including a touchdown.

“On that first drive, I give it up to Thomas Johnson,” said Darby. “He tried to put the work in on me. Coach tried to sit me out because they saw my leg. They said, ‘Man, you’re not looking like yourself. You’re favoring it.’ I kind of felt it, but me being a competitor, I’m not going to say it.”

The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder from Oxon Hill, Md., sat out the rest of the first half, but returned after halftime.

“I was real frustrated,” he said. “Thanks to the trainer, I got back. She put pressure on it so the swelling went down. I got back out there and was able to move a lot better. I was excited, but I just wanted to make sure I didn’t overdo it because it’s only 7-on-7.”

Darby made an interception on his final play of the tournament, but it wasn’t enough as the Southwest held on for the 29-13 victory. Despite the loss in the championship, Darby was happy his Midwest squad finally got its first win over the Southeast in the semis.

“It was real important,” he said. “We kind of knew that we were better than them. What was hurting us was mistakes really. We made a lot of mistakes. Coming off the mistakes, all we were saying was just to stay consistent and on defense, to keep everybody in front of us. We knew they would get frustrated and try to go deep and that’s when we made our plays.”

While Darby was slowed by the knee injury, the reviews of Darby’s play by virtually every scout in attendance were splendid.

“Before the injury, I feel like I showed what I can do,” he said.

One of the few plays Darby got beat on was a deep pass to future Notre Dame teammate Deontay Greenberry during the West’s win over the Midwest on Saturday.

“It was my mistake,” Darby said. “I shuffled instead of running and Deontay was just going. When the ball took off, I saw it. When the ball goes up, I can read it to see how far it’s going to be and if I’m going to make it. When I saw how that thing was flying, I was like ‘Uh uh.’ I turned and I saw him and I tried to rip it out.”

Darby enjoyed the overall experience down in Florida.

“It was real fun,” he said. “You’re around the nation’s best. Competition for 7-on-7 isn’t going to go get any better than this, these are the top players in the nation. We were just out here having fun, doing one-on-ones, getting in work. That’s what’s going to help me get better.”

Darby, who reaffrimed his commitment to Notre Dame earlier in the weekend to Irish Sports Daily, said he was doing some recruiting for the Irish in Florida, but wouldn’t acknowledge recruiting anyone other than his roommate and fellow Maryland prospect Cyrus Jones.

“Putting in work for ND,” he said.

When asked who else who was recruiting, Darby laughed.

“I can’t let you know all of that because I don’t want other colleges to get mad. I kept to myself, but I don’t know about Tee (Shepard) and Deontay though.”

With these guys coming in, guys like Jalen Brown and Lo Wood are really going to get pushed. Competition makes everyone better.

I know he is really pushing Cyrus Jones and Tracy Howard. Not Deon Bush.
