Shawshank Redemption is the best movie I have seen. My favorite would either be When Harry met Sally or Love Actually (I love a good romantic comedy) followed closely by Top Gun, True Grit (newer version), Braveheart and Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back.

Not that I think it's the greatest movie ever, although it is pretty good...but it is interesting that no one (that I can recall) in this thread has mentioned 300.

I believe when I first joined IE, someone did a similar thread to this and soooo many people were saying 300.

Seems like their opinions have cooled on that one, no?

Just like what will happen with Dark Knight. Dammit, someone argue with me over this movie...it was awful!!!

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, No Country for Old Men, There Will be Blood.

Local cable still shows "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." I tell ya, it is already a cult classic. Paraphrasing a quote from a director critiquing the film: "Great movie. You aren't going to know what the f.uck just hit you."

A song from the movie has buried itself into my noggin. YouTube - ‪Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: Black Sheep - FULL music video‬‏ and the original from 4 years ago YouTube - ‪Metric - Black Sheep - live Lollapalooza, August 7, 2010‬‏ Hopefully by tomorrow, it will pass. I read some of the comments on one of the many videos posted of it, and most posters used direct quotes from the movie:

Wallace Wells: If you want something bad, you have to fight for it. Step up your game, Scott. Break out the L-word.
Scott Pilgrim: Lesbian?
Wallace Wells: The other L-word.
Scott Pilgrim: ...Lesbians?

Wallace Wells: Kick her in the balls!

Scott Pilgrim: I'm in lesbians with you.

Anyone here like The Big Chill? That is another I left off my top-10, only because I forgot about it. But I love that movie. Even though its about college friends, it reminds me a lot of my group of friends from high school.

Plus, it probably has the best soundtrack of any movie I can think of. (Royal Tenenbaums is a close second.)

Rhody, you are correct, The Big Chill had a great soundtrack and was a flat out great flick. Forrest Gump had a great soundtrack as well.

I love movies that I can relate to in some form or fashion. I grew up in Mass., so I can relate to scenes shot in Boston or a story based in Boston such as The Departed, Good Will Hunting, The Town or The Fighter. Any story set in Maine locations (fictional or not) are cool as well i.e. The Shawshank Redemption, particularly when Dufraine says that he buried sometrhing under a rock in a hay field in Buxton, a town I used to drive through during my commute to work. I visited Dachau back in 1990 (on an eery gray, foggy, drizzly day) so I viewed Schindlers List with a little different perspective. I call my stepdaughter Olive, so Little Miss Sunshine gets the nod and tugs at the strings.

I have to say a lot of my all time favorites are comedies and for me, Blazing Saddles, is one of the most quotable movies of all time. Definitely not a politically correct movie anymore, but Mel Brooks really pushed the envelope, but always included everyone in his ribbing.

Also, it's kind of an obscure one, but Used Cars is hilarious. If you haven't seen it, it's a Robert Zemeckis/Spielberg movie with Kurt Russell. Pretty funny cast.

Favorite movie of all time is Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Followed closely by Reservoir Dogs, Inglourious Basterds and Office Space.

Reservoir Dogs. Saw it again on TV last week or so. Michael Madsen played one hell of a good psychotic.

Based on the number of times I've paid to see a movie in a theater, I'd have to go with M*A*S*H, Catch 22 and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

As a young lad (12) I laughed my *** off at A Shot In The Dark. In a Peter Sellers' vein, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb was the Bom*. Both released in 1964.

I would add Dumb and Dumber, Goodfellas, Casino, and Gladiator.

Some guilty pleasures, not great movies per se but incredibly rewatchable:

Teen Wolf
Roadhouse
La Bamba
Karate Kid
There's Something about Mary
The Hangover

Great guilty pleasures list. Some of my guiltay pleasures would include:

Red Dawn
Bachelor Party (precursor to The Hangover)
The Incredibles
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

You just named some all time great classics. MASH - The Last Supper scene. Too funny. Dr. Strangelove - Sellers and George C Scott - I was on the floor. Want some gum? Possibly my all time favorite, even though I wasn't born when it came out.

Bachelor Party is awesome! "Is that the foot long?" "And then some!" And it was back when Tawny Kitaen was hot!

Super Troopers - I forgot to mention this movie too (meow). Beer Fest was good too.

I also love Orgazmo. From the South Park guys. Hilarious! And I gotta mention Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle - NPH was epic!
