So instead of using Google thought it might be fun to bring it here. What was the name of the ND player who stopped the two point conversion against Army in the early 90's??? From what I remember he was a small DB and he rocked a big FB or TE at the pylon when they went for two instead of kicking for the tie. Allen Rossum keeps coming to mind, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't him. So....Who was it?

I remember the game well. I had become so irate, that I had to walk away from the tv and go outside and start cleaning the backyard. But I cheated. I took my small tv outside, so I could peek at the game. I received many phone calls immediately after the play asking "Did you see that ?!!!"

What is kind of funny, but typical, is that the announcers sounded so disappointed that ND made the stop.

5'9" 161, vs. 6'3" 240.

I like the replay where you can see the tight end's legs buckle.

He played it perferct too. If he would have hit him low, he falls into the endzone.

I was at that game. My dad's long time friend played for Army and always gets solid seats so we sat around the 50 yard line.

top comment on there.. haha

Oh, and my other favorite follow-up (I remember reading this in SI): a couple of weeks later, ND beat the living hell out of USC. After that game, Holtz was asked how that happened after such a close game with us. Holtz said "Easy. Army's got a better football team."

I remember hearing the big joke one year by the students was, "What's the quickest way to the endzone? Route 14." Ivory took his lumps in quite a few games during his career, but definitely stood tall on that play against Army.

Ivory took a lot of heat from fans but he was a 4 year letterman at CB, 2 years as the starter. He spent the first two behind Captain Shawn Wooden who went on to the NFL. He played opposite the Allen Rossum who was as fast or faster than Darby. Rossum set an NCAA record with 9 TD returns. So Covington got more business his way.

As for life after football, Covington is Director of Operations for a financial services company in Atlanta.
