In the trenches is the only position I think the BP is a strong indicator of what can be.

Congrats on the recognition Cave!

Amazing that 3 of the 10 are RBs, two at 200 pounds.

Only one of the 10 is on our schedule.

1) Mike Martin DT, Michigan Wolverines 6’2, 300 lbs. Senior
Anyone who can bench press 505 pounds, squat 700 pounds, power clean 430 pounds, hang clean 475 pounds and run a 4.9 second 40 yard dash is deserving of the top spot on this list. Martin does it all in the weight room and on the athletic field. Not only does he excel in football but he was a two-time high school state champion in wrestling and the shot put in his hometown state of Michigan. Martin is looking to improve on his solid play after getting All-Conference selection by both the coaches (2nd team) and the media (honorable mention) last season.

I hate to be this guy but I have always checked the results of NFL combine to my results back in HS when taking visits. Knowing that I had no chance at BCS caliber showing or even a single offer, I still would have looked great! NAIA up to DIV 1-AA were all over me but not an actual DIV 1 Team. I was also honest enough with myself to understand why... anyway...

If Cave takes his strength to the same level on the field I will be more than ecstatic! I have always had a feeling for this kid. Hope he is a leader for the OL this year. At that BP ... you have to have dedication!

Whoa, the Cave v. Martin matchup will be a "hide the kids" moment.

Agreed, but even for linemen, Squat and Power Clean are far more important than BP. Don't know why people put so much emphasis on it.

You're creating the bulk of your energy form your base, but upper body strength is crucial for blocking manupulation. In short, you really need both, but that all important push is coming from the legs.

Gym rats get on kicks..."the bicep is the beauty pageant muscle...", "the bench is not important in football," "Squats make you slow...", "Everything starts with your core..."

It seems to me that the stronger I am in all those muscle groups, the easier sports become. So my guess is that all things equal, its a real advantage to have incredibly strong arms/chest/shoulders in terms of blocking, balance, punch, push, etc.. However, legs are always the most important thing because they are what create the bulk of your power and they are what are actually touching the ground!

Only one of the 10 is on our schedule.

My son, who is pretty darn knowledgeable, says Martin is the best defensive lineman in the nation. I, of course, argued against that, but the kid has a lot of people that don't disagree with him.

Many have forgotten.

Now his name spoken, so that we may not forget...

lol.

"MBECKHA!!!"

He was so entertaining.

Do tell.

He's one of those defensive tackles that is quietly impressive. He's not a great pass rusher, which is why he doesn't get the acclaim of a Suh or a Fairley. Martin's never been a problem for us when it comes to protecting the passer, but he has been disruptive in the run game, especially last season.

He played injured for much of last year, and was also hurt by Michigan's 3-3-5 defense, which allowed teams to double or triple team him every play and neutralize him fairly easily.

He should be more effective/impressive this season with Michigan's new 4-3 defense. Will Campbell is a mammoth (although not a particularly great player) and will draw attention. Braxston Cave and Chris Watt are going to have to do a great job this year keeping him in check.

I reped you Jinx, because that was just the clearest most straight forward analysis I've seen in a long time, and just what I need to beat my son at a battle of half-wits! Thanks!
