The only thing I think is weird is that we would offer Turner with Elijah Shumate and Yuri Wright still on the board. Obviously the coaches like what they saw from Turner... but you have to believe this is shutting the door on that combo if Turner commits giving us 3 safeties.

Wilson was a low probability of landing to begin with. I know we're in there, but the fact that he is meeting with coaches to make a decisions and his coach is a Michigan guy does not bode well for us at all.

**** how could I forget Shumate.

It looks like once a position stablaizes (OL, QB, TE, DE) we focus more on the elite players only early on.

Wait Domina Nostra I'm confused? Are you talking about for the 2012 recruiting year? Or in general because Tight End we have 4 'elite' bodies and we've historically been known as tight end U since Fasano. Defensive End we've had the strongest class in a while. Are you saying that we need more consistent recruiting classes at these positions?

Also is anyone going to make a profile for Jordan Williams? Here is the freebee on ISD

Williams Pleased With Performance

He's a two star which is surprising that the coaching staff is looking but his attributes speak for themselves. Just from the speed and the height I like him, but why would he be a two star because of those other than maybe being extremely raw or lack of physicality i.e. throwing blocks?

Also after trolling through youtube I am unable to find any video of him... Hopefully he puts some out there soon because just from the size and the picture I like him!

What I was trying to say is that when your actual depth chart (kids on campus) has sufficient numbers spread out over classes you can be patient and primarily target elite kids. When you have holes, like we do at DB for 2012, you can't wait for elite kids because (a) if you strike out you put the entire 2012 season in jeopardy, and (b) even if you don't strike out but get a normal size class at that position (say 2 elite kids) there may be an injury, a defection, a kid who just doesn't pan out (see S. Evans), or something else, and then you are back to a place where 2012 is in danger. Rule #1 is don't throw a season away. You have to take more than you want playing the odds that someone will work out.

Striking out at TE or QB this year (like NT last year) or getting a smaller OL or DE class, is just not going to have much effect for next year or 2013 because we have done very well at those positions in either one or both of the last cycles.

I think you always want to take something like 24 guys a years, about 1 guy per year per position. But life is not that neat and tidy. This year, I think we need (not want):

QB: 0
RB:2
WR:3-4
TE: 0
OL:3

NT:1
DE:2
OLB:2
ILB:1
CB: 2-3
S: 2-3

I agree with you. The only thing that I disagree on is that we need linebackers because by the looks of how many linemen we are looking at, and how Diaco is getting everyone minus Louie Nix into peak cardiovascular shape, we will probably see more defensive linemen recruited to play linebacker because of their height advantage (i.e. Ishaq and Ben Councell) and kind of like Perkins where his video is primarily defensive line oriented. I think the 3 biggest pieces we need to pick up are a Jarron Jones, DGB and Keith Marshall (of course). Though I would love a 2nd coming of Golson in Devin Fuller, but it's unlikely. Anyone else who if mature physically and mentally no matter their star rating is a.ok with me! GO IRISH!
And I still think Turner will be the next recruit we pick up.

TurningP2011:

possibility of news stirring

Then in John Turner's thread:

Clarification on the tweet....there are some legit rumblings but could be nothing....50/50 on something note worthy happening in the next week.

Today, he posts a link to Byron Marshall's highlight video (with no explanation.)

Since he's well-connected, I'm doing the perfectly reasonable thing and jump to wild conclusions. Who wants to jump with me?!

It's meant to be! Byron and Keith, marshaling our troops to victory on the ground.

Not that I dont like the Marshall - Marshall backfield but a Marshall - Mathers backfield has potential to be a 4 year all name team selection.

Would the real AA RB tandem please stand up?

Hopefully a stud... We can talk about RKG all we want (we literally say it about every single commit we get) but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this class has enough 3-stars in it, am I? It's time for a 5-star!

Ferguson and Harrell will be 4:s: by NSD, without a doubt.

That's leaves Daly, our unrated yet best-in-the-nation LS, and Prosise, a physical specimen who will likely remain a 3:s: due to the fact that he plays against weak competition.

We don't have too many 3:s: guys.

Right on whiskey...
Yeah...this is a quality class...loaded up on what will be 4 stars...I'd imagine Darby and Shepherd will be 5*s by NSD. Darby is in many services' opinions already.

As long as we win and win big this year the talent will be there in spades...BK will have to turn guys away.
