Still a long time to go. Don't know if he set a schedule or anything but I'm 99% sure he's not planning on announcing for awhile and plans on taking officials.

Thanks Lax! I see what you're saying on the rain too...a nice, sunny, 80 degree day in South Bend could have def. helped the cause a bit more, won't be a deal breaker but little things like that can just strengthen things.

I see your point, but it took him a couple years to get Ball State from crappy to good, and he can point out his last 3 years. 12-1 at Ball State, then 9-4 at SDSU a couple years later.

You are correct. Comparing winning percentages is often dumb because some guys had to build programs from nothing. His coaching job at Ball State was very good, and at SDSU was marvelous. He can turn programs around from nothing, he has proven that. Whether the schedule at Michigan is conducive for a patient rebuilding project is another story. The Big Ten wasn't kind to Rodriquez's trying to change gears and it sure as hell won't be nice to Hoke. I'm hoping they go through three or four coaching tenures before they get back to elite status, just like Notre Dame.

There is still many a reason to be skeptical about Brady Hoke. I'll list some...

- It took him a grand total of five seasons to get a winning record in the Mid-American Conference. In 2002 (the year before Hoke arrived at Ball State), they had been 6-6, and 5-6 in both 2000 and 2001.
- It took Brian Kelly two years at Central Michigan to get a winning record, who had won 12 games total in the previous four years. Urban Meyer was 8-3 his first season at Bowling Green, who had been 2-9 the year before.
- He has more losing seasons (5) than winning seasons (3).
- He has only 8 years of head coaching experience (also about 20 additional years of assistant coaching experience).
- He has never coached in an AQ conference, much less at a big-time program.
- He is 0-3 vs. Brian Kelly.

You never know, a kid from the deserts of Arizona might be afraid of playing in the rain. He might think this happens when it rains during football games:

For what it's worth, aside from the seven years I spent at ND, I've lived my whole life in Arizona. Rain is like mana from heaven here, and I loved rain in South Bend as long as it wasn't cold. Peat might feel the same way.

Your sarcasm is duly noted, Buster. Just sayin'.

- He is 0-3 vs. Brian Kelly.

I approve of this statistic.

No offense (which means I'm going to say something offensive...), but I hate dumb *** comments like that.

When the goal is to make a good impression good weather > bad weather. It has nothing to do with being "soft" and everything to do with being able to get out, walk around campus, etc. Plus the sun, Vitamin D, etc. has been proven by numerous scientific studies to make people happier than gloom and doom.

The idea that a kid enjoying his visit to ND less because it T-Stormed would indicate he is "soft" or not fit for ND is ridiculous. When you're trying to get a feel for a place weather matters. A lot.

You're right, soft is probably the wrong (too extreme) word. However, I thought that your initial post about 'weather gods' was a bit of an overreaction to a bit of rain. Never in the four years that I spent at ND did the gloomy weather mask the beauty of the Golden Dome, Basilica, Touchdown Jesus, etc. I'm sure Andrus will be able to see ND for the special place that is, despite the weather.

And I think my earlier post was partly influenced by JR Ferguson, who was a recruit from 2010 who chose LSU over ND primarily because South Bend was too cold. I guess I'm still bitter about people who complain about the weather...

I like to believe that such decisions are too important to ever come down to weather. It may be a factor for why some choose to go elsewhere, but I doubt anyone chooses to skip ND simply because of the cold.

Put another way, whenever a recruit claims to have been turned off by the weather (and I honestly can't recall a single recruit doing this, because it comes off as remarkably short-sighted), there are probably more important reasons he chose to go elsewhere.

Ferguson's dad literally came out after signing day and said that he personally preferred ND but his son thought it was "too cold."

Really? I thought he said that his son wanted to live like a king for four years in a state that worships football, at a school which makes almost no demands of its athletes, and where there are a lot of girls who want to party with SEC athletes?

C'mon dad...

Depressing, but this brings me back to a point I made earlier about the pics Peat took around campus today. If those sights don't make you fall in love with Notre Dame, then it's probably not the place for you.

Not saying every recruit has to commit the moment they step on campus (or GTFO), but if a kid is going to pass on ND because it's cold, then there clearly wasn't much magic there for him to begin with.

A really cool story, regarding recruiting and weather, was of the mom of Kory Minor, who was visiting with her son Kory, who was the H.S. Defensive POY (or something like that) and was from out here in SoCal.

Well, they visited in the winter, and it just so happened to be freezing and snowing that day. The recruiting coordinator at the time just knew that this was bad news, especially for a boy from Southern CA. After a campus tour and the whole nine yards that ever recruit gets, she turns to her son and says something like:

"Son, I can buy you a winter coat, but I can't buy you what Notre Dame offers. You're coming to school here."

And he committed on the spot. What a mom!!!

Yup, and Coach Chmiel (the mayor of Granger) posts on ISD from time to time, and he was on Power Hour a year or so ago with a million and one stories. It's awesome listening to him.

Did I ever tell you BGIF that one of my students (he was a new student last year - 7th grade) is coached by Joey Getherall? (For those that don't know, BGIF knows the Getherall family.) Joey is a speed coach out in West Covina, and my student (a Miami fan fan, uggghh, although the ND victory over Miami was sweet) trains with him. And speaking of Amat, my next door neighbor's son is set to be the starting free safety for them next year as a sophomore, so I'll be checking them out next year...

Full interview is out. Very encouraging quotes from Andrus on his trip and his feelings on ND in general. Will return for an OV (guess which game). ND will be in it till the end.

USC game continues to become more important. The weeks leading up to this game are also important. ND could potential be ranked in the top 10-15 coming into this game.

There are three incredibly pivotal games on our schedule in '11 that could potentially shape our program for the next 5 years.

Michigan, USC, Stanford. Going to be a big freaking deal.

Excellent point. We have to stay neck-and-neck with Michigan for the forseeable future (requiring a win this year). We have to beat USC every year while they are down (i.e., have Kiffin), and we have to re-establish that Stanford is Duke West.

Replace that with Michigan State and I'm with you.

I do not think Michigan will be difficult the second game of the season

I completely agree that it will not be difficult, but I think it will be a statement game especially for recruits who are all hyped on the Michigan bandwagon who still hold offers from us or for recruits with Michigan and ND in their top 5.

I would throw both Michigan games in the mix. Along with Stanford and USC, these four games are crutial.
