Reporting now on SportsCenter.

NOW, we can poach some recruits.

Probably the best news for Michigan too.

Nice.

Now just have to worry about them hiring a stud. I saw another report about Tony Dungy being a possibility.

They're going to get hammered by the NCAA anyway. I can't see it being a good place to dominate at for 2 or 3 years, maybe longer.

As some of you know, I played for Tressel many years ago at YSU. I've tried to steer clear of the speculation over the last five months, but the reality of it is he has a knack for turning a blind eye. He'll always be considered the greatest coach ever in my book, making it a sad day for me.

This would be my biggest concern

He keeps saying no, no, no. But this would be the best time for him to jump in. I hope he doesn't go against what he and his family have been saying and throws his hat in.....I think he likes the gig he's got right now at ESPN.

I wonder if this will improve our recruiting in anyway.

It surely won't hurt it. This is a benefit that may take a year or two for ND to see dividends, depending on how badly OSU is affected by the aftermath of sanctions and whatnot...

Nice.

Now just have to worry about them hiring a stud. I saw another report about Tony Dungy being a possibility.

I'll bet my life Dungy doesn't coach there. And if he does, you'll see a soft team. NO disrespect to the man (as quality a human being as you'll find), but his teams were always soft until Manning finally got them over the top. One line I'll never forget him tell hi players in Tampa Bay: "What can I do to make practice easier, for you?" And this was where his players were in the midst of never being able to get over the top (always losing in the cold weather to inferior teams in the playoffs). Gruden came in the next year and they won a SB. He's a great coach, but I don't see him as the answer there.

Anyway, this is crazy news!!! Just woke up and logged on, and it was either here, ISD or ESPN. I chose here of course, and was shocked. And it's only just beginning for OSU...

As Rocket said this is GREAT news for recruiting. This should be interesting the next few weeks to see where OSU heads in regards to coach hiring and possible sanctions.

I think he likes the gig at ESPN as well. I don't see him jumping in now, but maybe after the dust settles and OSU can start licking its wounds. Now would be a terrible time for a proven coach to step in. Look for OSU to hire someone who is either young, inexperienced, or someone who otherwise hasn't been able to land a decent D1 job. That guy will come in and struggle with the sanctions and reputation for a few seasons and THEN OSU will bring in the big gun, whoever that may be...hopefully not Urban.

I don't see Myer taking any coaching job in the next few years...unless he's coaching his daughters.

I have a feeling Urban won't end up at OSU. Some kind of gut feeling makes me think he would not go there.

A top level coach will not take the job until any sanctions are known (Kiffin is an example of that, what was he like option F??)

No one with a good name should touch the place before the NCAA starts handing out penalties. There is some SMU type stuff going on there.

Why would Urban Meyer want to take the reins of a program that is about to get the upheaval? That sounds so absurd.

Look for a coach looking to make a statement. A young guy who wants to work through the penalties, to build something as his own.

Honestly I don't think this is much more that the Oklahoma situation where players were working for absorbant salaries at a local car dealership and driving brand new rides. USC's case involved agents making it Taboo in the eyes of the NCAA.

This may be a stab out of left field... but I REALLY think you may see this guy get a long, hard look:

Chris Creighton

He's always told his players that he wants the Ohio State job. He knows Tressell's playbook (we used it at Wabash and he's doing it now at Drake).

If he gets it, awesome. If not, you may see an internal promotion.

For the record I don't think he goes either.

SI report comes out later today. Reporter says timing of resignation will make sense after you read the story.

It's more than selling rings and getting free/reduced priced cars and tattoos.
The best is yet to come.

I have heard good things about this coach. Funny I had a friend in college, well heck I am still in college.... Anyway I met him during my freshman year as I attended Holy Cross for the year (07-08) and we became great friends. His name..... Chris Creighton. I read up about this coach with the trip to Africa he did with his team. Funny story to all of us who know "Our" Chris as we joked we had no idea he was a head coach.

Stupid little story, but something haha. Your post makes sense. This guy can win with a non scholarship team so sanctions against OSU is actually a VAST improvement to his situation.

Now, can we get some SEC coaches to resign and possibly Lane Kiffin?
Let's clean up this thing we call the FBS.

Something to consider:

While it's likely that scUM and ND will benefit in the recruiting department, it's very likely that Nebraska will now OWN the conference for some time to come. Unless of course Hoke is the real deal, then scUM may provide some competition. Either way, the Huskers probably just avoided the biggest hurdle between them and a conference title for the next few years.
