Visited for Pitt game, came away impressed. Coach brought up two recently touted tackles, Jack Harris and Brendan Austin; states compares favorably to both.

“We watched the team walk from the church to the stadium, which was probably about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen,” recounted Callahan. “I’ve never seen a stadium so full. I’ve been to a lot of CU (University of Colorado) games and they’re not always that full and loud. It was really awesome.”

“I definitely could see myself playing there,” he said. “They run a lot of spread and pass. Pass blocking is kind of my thing because I’m really long and lanky. I really enjoy that.”

I just saw Callahan verbal'd to Auburn today. I swear I read an article on ISD or somewhere else (that I can't find now of course) that made it sound like Callahan was very high on ND but ND has not offered yet. Anybody know anything on him? Did ND not offer him b/c of outstanding offers to Armstead, Peat & Theus?

The staff feels good about some elite talent on the offensive line. Thats why DeStefano didnt get an offer, and likely the same for Callahan.

I never heard anything that sounded like the staff was very serious about him. That may have been because of the other guys we like, or maybe interest just wasn't reciprocal and they didn't want to waste effort on a kid that wasn't likely going to commit. Either way, good luck to the young man.

On a side note, I have seen Shane play three times. Each time, he was the biggest kid on the field. Despite what anyone tells you, Colorado football is just not that good. There are players here and there, but there just isnt the youth commitment that other states have with rocket football, etc. I grew up in Michigan, and while Michigan certianly isnt Florida or California, I would take my chances with a kid from Michigan over Colorado every time if I had to go on just measurables.

Please don't take that as a knock on Shane. He seems like a fine young man that would have fit in great at Notre Dame. Just don't know if he is at the same level as many of the OL prospects that we are sitting well with.

Thanks guys for your input. I guess the lack of replies on the Callahan thread could also signify some general lack of ND interest as well...

Interesting thoughts on CO football too. Living in MI, I've thought for the past few years that the HS football wasn't on par with a lot of other tier 2 states. I can't think of the last super (or top 15-20) recruit the state of Michigan turned out (Bettis? Wheatley?). That's probably just me being critical though. IMO, MI is much better at turning out non-skill postion players. It would be interesting to see some CO teams matched up with some MI teams.

Best of luck to Callahan though.

Ronald Johnson was top 15-20 a couple of years ago. Typically Cass Tech will produce top 250 talent. You are correct though, it seems like a lot of non skill guys other than those.

Yeah, it seems like the Technicians produce a 3 or 4 star DB every year (hollowell, richardson, mathis, cissoko, etc).
