The MD/VA/NC area is one of the unsung goldmines of HS football talent [and speed]. Virginia Tech hates that everyone's finding out about it. [Note that Michigan has their nose all over that area]. Our new young superman is a fine example of the great talent from there.

Hmmm...a fledgling robin on its first flight [I could tell because its small feathers were still clinging to it] just landed [in a struggle] on my third floor windowsill. It looked in doubt about trying the bigger "drop" to the street. After a moment or two, it got up its courage and flew away in great form. Hopefully that's you, CJ, and all our young studs trying their wings at the big world, and finding that you can indeed fly magnificiently.

I'm not sure whether to peg you a poet, or a romantic...

Lemming on Prosise: " He's got good size and he's physical. Possible could grow into a linebacker."

From seeing the highlights he seems very instinctive. I didn't see 4.4 speed though, which isn't a big deal if he has an outfielder mentality. Welcome CJ!

He's got the speed. He's a long strider, so it doesn't appear so.

Side note: This is one of the best songs to have on a highlight reel.

He's a perfect fit for our team.

I love it when we offer a kid, and he commits quickly.

It's sorta like winking at a girl and getting the tell-tale smile.

Welcome aboard son. You're Irish. The others aren't.

BTW, 8 recruits, 8 different states.

(I have this year's New Mexico recruit living within 10 miles of me right now. ND just doesn't know it yet...)

So the Cavemen have a stud this year? Grew up in 'Cruces and made the trek to Carlsbad at least a couple of times a year (Back then we were in the same conference). God what a long bus ride!

Agreed. He's got enough speed to play that's for sure; he's a very B+ track athlete and definitely runs somewhere in the 4.5 to 4.7 range at this junction. Anything around 4.6 though is more than sufficient to play safety and I think he has a lot of upside. Really hoping he does some camps to see how he performs against some other elite competition... but already being committed I'm not sure if he sees a need to go prove anything.

From a very knowledgeable poster on II regarding Butch Davis offering CJ Prosise

This is a very astute and relevant point, one not unnoticed by quite a few coaches and scouts around CFB and the NFL. Butch Davis offering a defensive prospect, especially around his regional area at Miami and now UNC, has been gold in terms of spotting raw, upside potential, athleticism and football skills, and desire. His track record, comparatively speaking, is better than Saban's, Carroll's, Stoops', and most others as a recent NFLN story indicated by research. Not far behind for defensive prospects in that area are VTech and Penn St. Their offers alone here speak positively to this kid's potential and skills.

All that said, I do know that Coach Diaco personally evaluated him at his HS recently, and agreed with Coach Molnar's very positive report and interest in terms of what they want. Diaco signing off on a defensive recruit is crucial, especially this early when he doesn't need to do so. They liked this kid a lot as a S, although Molnar and even Kelly loved his film and potential as a WR, too. Again, target great athletes who also have great football skills and/or raw potential, along with size, toughness, aggressiveness and desire. He fits ND very well.

As we've noted, we will take at least 11-12 SKILL ATHLETES, using Kelly's nomenclature. Could go higher, too, for an extra elite guy capable of playing those positions of DB, WR and RB. Meaning, we continue on pressing our case for CBs, Safeties, WRs and RBs.

As for Prosise specifically, I otherwise incorporate Tim Prister's and Tony Riccio's excellent film analysis/review, noting similarities to what Diaco, Molnar and Kelly noted.

he doesn't fit our mold for olb...he will be a safety bank on it.

Unless he improves his speed (which is very difficult to do compared to improving strength) I bet he'll be at strong safety... Having said that, maybe we still take a FS.

he would fit fine where harrison smith plays into the boundary...similar type of player...maybe not as fast, but physically this kid is going to get stronger and faster when he puts the time in the weightroom.

He'll get stronger but not so sure that really helps at the safety position... The safety position is about being in the right spot at the right time (in his highlights he seems to be excellent at this).

I'm not sure how much faster you get at the college level. My high school track coach (grain of salt) told me that rarely do people get faster after their junior year of high school (you put on weight from then on out), and he showed me a study that on average, sprinters across the country typically run better 100m times their junior year compared to their senior year.

I, personally, cut more than three tenths off my 55m dash as a senior in high school. I also know that most professional sprinters typically peak in their early to mid 20s (trust me on this one). One of the great myths is that you "can't teach speed." While everyone has a different ceiling of potential, people absolutely do get faster as they work on technique, train, weight lift, etc.

That study could be right on a macro scale but 'elite' athletes training the right way tend to improve speed throughout their teens at a minimum. I definitely see CJ projecting as a FS when all is said and done. I think he has (or will have) more than sufficient speed to play that position effectively.

I agree with most things you said, I'm just saying don't expect the talented high-school athletes to get much faster while in college. Strength is way easier to increase.. Still, C.J. seems to be your prototypical 'ball hawk' according to his highlights so I have no doubt that he can be a great S for us... I just wouldn't be surprised if, in a couple years when he's playing, we tried to put him at SS.

He's got the speed. Maybe not the 40 time to suit you guys, but he has good game speed. And he has a good eye for the ball and good ball skills.

Considered more quick than fast. Still fast enough for safety. He will not be an OLB at ND. Pure Safety in Diaco's scheme

Really? I would say he's more fast than quick... He seems to have long strides. This is evident by the fact he runs a 4.73 40, yet a 10.9 100m.

Where did you see the 10.9? Track stats I saw had him in the 11.2 range.
