Christian McCollum ISD 5/26

McCollum reports Smith was timed at 4.38 in 2010 and is being recruited by ND Recruiting Coordinator. Martin was Smith's Head Coach's coach.

Smith plans on attending ND's camp next month to earn an ND offer.

Smith doesn't know much about ND.

I definitely like his size and if his 40 time is real, that's damned fast.

I only watched a couple of minutes of the 11 minute video but he looked big and outran the defenders. I thought he looked a lot bigger than most of the defenders on the field.

According to those measureables he's an inch or two taller than Keith Marshall with the same weight and 40. Someone might want to look at both videos and try and compare them. He sure doesn't have the attention (and offer list) that Marshall has at this point.

From Smith's comments it sounds like Breman is a small school. Anyone from IL familiar with Midlothian's level of competition?

Bremen HS is in the South Suburban Blue Conference. They were 3-6 last year, 1-5 in the conference.

Student enrollment is about 1400.

He loves running through the endzone, and out as far as possible.

"Run Forrest, run."

Let's hope he isn't Forrest Gump part 2. Bama has enough quality as is.

That's a lot of inertia.

6'1, 200lbs, 4.38 speed.

No kidding! This shows how important the school a kid attends is to the scouting services. I mean, the kids measurables and speed alone should make him a 4 star. With our lack of rb depth, I dont know why we just offer this kid immediatly. Is he a project? Sure, but I will take a whole team of projects if they are big kids that run sub 4.4 fourties.

Does this hint of a lot of concern about how our RB recruiting chances are going? This young man MIGHT be real good, but the "interest" is coming "late" and one wonders ....

I dont necessarily think that the coaching staff feels that we wont be landing a top RB, but we cant just throw caution to the wind. This kid has a lot of skills that our coaching staff likes, and not just at RB. So while a commitment from him would help us in our RB depth, I dont think it signals any potential issues with the other kids we are recruiting at RB.

Perhaps the staff thinks that an offer while at ND for camp will make a bigger impression

For a kid this fast and big, something has to be to have THAT offer list. What is is? Anyone know?

He attends a pretty small school and doesnt play at a high level of high school football. Furthermore, his team isnt that good even at their level.

Perhaps the staff thinks that an offer while at ND for camp will make a bigger impression

I think it would, and that would give us more time to evaluate him further. But I have a sneeking suspicion that this kid is about to get a lot more attention.

No way this kid runs a 4.38. I'd still take him, though.

His running style reminds me of Ricky Watters.

Screw that, sign him to a ping pong scholly, let him walk on. Save a scholly, win...win.

My guess is because that 40 is phony bologna.

Bad team or not, he plays in Illinois. If you can ball in Illinois, teams will find you. He's not digging out of snow in Alaska or anything.
