ISD article is interesting in a lot of different ways. Many times I'm as intrigued with what isn't said [if by a coach] than what is. If Diaco has really talked about a list of four NT tackles [and even star-ranked them], it means to me that he's recruiting everybody else of the D-Line bigs as DEs. That would include Sh!ttu, Wynne, Jarron Jones, Armstead [if we're still talking to him], etc.

Also, by rating Goldman a five-star, and the others at four-stars, some psychological "game" must be on. I can't imagine letting such a comparative thing out in public if there was not a lot of thought about it. Is this "special love" to Goldman in order to get him to move??, or is this a bit of a "hurry-up call" to one or more of the others?? Seems like a dice-roll to me. Hope it works. To my untutored eye, all four of these guys look terrific.

Sign up for an account (completely free), and you'll have access.

Some premium articles will let you look at the entire story without restrictions when they first come out...some don't. After a couple days then that article becomes accessible to only premium subscribers. Example - I was able to read the article on Poole and now I can't. I call them teasers to want you to subscribe.

Old Man...dont look to heavily into Diaco's comments...

Keep in mind they are only looking for 1 true NT in this class.

I realize that...not sure what it has to do with my analysis. ...
puzzled, but I suppose it makes no difference. I find it difficult personally to stop thinking however so people have had to put up with that irritating characteristic.

"Coach D" on ISD isn't Coach Diaco.

It is Bryan Driskell...a writer for ISD. Sorry for the confusion.

Ahhhhhh....that makes life make sense again. To think a current coach would put out stuff publicly really boggled my mind.

Four-star defensive tackle Sheldon Day of Warren Central High (Indianapolis) made a visit to Notre Dame on Sunday, and for a particular reason. Also, there are key aspects involved in Day's decision-making, and IrishEyes.com is told where the Irish stand in those categories.

unfortunately thats all I have... =/

Actually don't know if he is a good fit. Apparently 6'2" is generous and he doesn't have too much of an upside at NG. Was much higher on him before I did some research... I certainly wouldn't mind the commit but I hope we can grab a Kirven, Schutt or Jones.

Agreed. I am really high on Jones and would love to see a rotation of Nix, Tuitt/Lynch, N Williams/Cwynar and Jones in 2012! Would give us a lot of flexibility to run a true 4-3 and on essential short yardage situations to close the holes! :eek:grin:

I like Day a lot and think he would fit in well in our 3-4 fronts. He needs to put on a couple pounds, but what dt prospect doesn't?

My favorite DT prospect is Schutt, by far though. He plays a lot on the outside in HS, so he wouldnt be out of place in 4-3 fronts, but is perfect size for a 3-4. Plays with a great pad level, and looks/acts like Zorich. IF we get him, I want to write him a letter asking him to bring back the cut off jersey.

Can you expound on that a little? Day is probably our most achievable NT prospect in this class.

Even if he's not quite 6'2'', that won't be an issue if he projects at NT for us. With another 30-40 lbs, his tangibles would all check out fine. From his pictures online, he looks like he has the build for NT.

What's your concern?

He has offers from UF scUM PSU and VaTech so If those schools think he is capable then I think he would be a good pick up but I also like Schutt better. Kirven and Day are 2a and 2b for me.

Specifically, his frame is already quite filled out. He is very close in stature to an Ian Williams. He probably maxes out around 6'1" 315. Not bad, but not great for NG. Just how Ian Williams wasn't ideal in size. I actually think the staff likes him because he could also play and be a run stuffer with a great motor. He's definitely a 4* player, but probably has a relatively low ceiling compared to some other prospects

I would welcome his commitment, just have other guys who I like a lot better for upside.

Who do you like better at NT? Schutt is obvious, but he's a reach at the moment.

Kirven or C. Watkins?

Not so fast my friend.

Schutt put us in his top 3 as of mid June with PSU and OSU so we are very much in it and I think he is ours in the end.

I don't want any NTs (because the staff doesn't) so looking at the SDE types that could slide inside to the DT spot when the CAT linebacker comes down I like Korren Kirven and Jarron Jones a lot better.

In general, Day is basically an Ian Williams type who could be a very good player but appears to have an upside below other guys. As a NG he ranks below guys like Schutt, Shittu, Jones and Kirven in my mind. At DE I like Jones, Kirven, and Watkins better. But as I said, I'd take Day's commitment for sure. He's a legit 4* and there is no guarantee that we get any of those guys.

Only if we start recruiting NGs.... there is a reason Shittu doesn't even have an offer.
