This is a long way from being over. I have read articles that have Shaq high on ND. I have read some that he does not mention ND. Most of the sources are from pay sites. But the bottom line is, these sites are trying to cultivate new members with the info. If we get him on campus, I like our chances. ND fits all of his requirements. But, they fit Noor Davis' requirement too.

Well good thing Stanford hasn't offered him.....yet

from what i have heard ND coaches spent the majority of the day with him at Grant the other day, and the catalyst for all of this was because Shaq was supposedly showing alot of interest in ND and was hoping an offer would one day come his way. About 2 to 3 days later we were in contact with him, a couple days after that an offer was given. I feel we do have a strong chance hear, but dont think Cal is out of the picture. In the Sacramento region Cal is a big presence, from the day you learn what football is and you start playing, the school you watch, admire, go to camps to was Cal, and Cal has a strong connection with Grant Union. I also know Shaq is family oriented, we were always taught that family, then school always came before football, and with Cal being the closest school in the area, it makes things easier on the family

I think the big thing for us is to get this kid and his family on campus. He sounds like a good kid with alot of talent and I for one would love to get him. I agree though, that Cal is going to be tough to beat.

Told ESPN he will visit UCLA and USC in the summer and take unofficial visits to both of those schools plus Cal in the fall. His official visits will be to Washington, Oregon, Notre Dame and Arizona. Great news - he is emphatically stating he is going to let the process play out and "watch the teams closely" to see how they do and how well he thinks he can fit in. Cal leads with Washington making an impression.

I assume the ND visit will be for the USC game, but he didn't specify. That game is going to be HUGE. While I think he probably still ends up at Cal after all is said and done, hanging out with Tee and Deontay in that atmosphere (along with numerous other recruits) is the best sell we can hope for.

That is awesome this elite kid is coming for an official. You would think USC would be the obvious choice but who knows....just happy he is coming.

Probably the most important recruiting weekend in years. Should be dozens of coveted recruits present.

A couple of years ago when USC played at ND, CW put together a hell of a prospect list too. I feel this type of move can go both ways. It's great to get these kids on campus in an exciting environment. That game truly shows what ND football is all about and you know they're all going to talk to each other. On the other hand, how many "red carpet" treatments are available? I believe Chris Galippo is a good example. Wasn't he the one who got snubbed on his visit because there were other prospects on campus that CWs staff spent more time with? On a game weekend, there's only so much time the staff can offer to a recruit. The more recruits, the less time you can spend with each one.

One thing that Kelly made clear when he came in is that EVERYONE on his staff is going to recruit. No questions. CWs staff some did and some didn't. So, possibly that could be a reason. Maybe some of CWs staff didn't make any contact or effort with recruits that why they couldn't "red carpet" all of them. With Kelly's staff I can see all the prospects get the most out of their visit.

Yet another top 100 player who performed well at SMU was Sacramento (Calif.) safety Shaq Thompson. While he mostly was batting away balls that had too much air on them, day one of the tournament also allowed him to show his offensive attributes. Playing both ways was just one way the talented athlete showed off his love for the game.

“It's too hot out here. The turf is hotter, less wind, it's just a hot day,” Thompson said. “But it's a great day to play football and that always makes it a great day.”

Easily the most impressive defensive back on the field from a physical standpoint, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Thompson has a host of programs who are heavily pursuing him ever since he decommitted from Cal awhile ago.

“I'd say Washington and Cal and Notre Dame,” he said. “Mainly Washington, they've been calling me, hitting me up and see how I'm doing. They're getting there but I'm still open. I'm ready for anything.”

Though it appears there will be no more unofficial visits for the four-star safety, he's already moved on to figuring out who will receive an official visit as the calendar inches closer to the date prospects can begin visiting in a formal capacity.

“During the season I'm probably going to take a trip to Washington,” he said. “Cal, UCLA or Notre Dame, one of those too.”

Thompson said his top four schools were – not surprisingly - Cal, Washington, UCLA and Notre Dame. The distance from home for the two non-California schools likely won't be a huge factor but is still something he's considering.

“Not really, I've got family basically all over,” Thompson said. “It's just the people I grew up with are the people that I'm most comfortable with. So I'll probably stay closer to home.”

We're basically in "runner-up" position right now for Treggs + Shaq... but I think we're really far on the outside. But hey... if we go 13-0 and win a NC and Cal goes 6-6 that might change some things ;)

I am going to go out on a limb and say what he has been saying for a while. Cal, UW, ND, UCLA, and Oregon. Throw in U$C maybe too.

He is going to take 3 OVs to Washington, UCLA, and ND. The other 2 are up in the air. Also, he only has one bye week so most of the visits will be after the season.

Look, he's a pipe dream. Everyone, and I mean everyone that I read and listen to says he'll sign with Cal. Just listened to a USC podcast yesterday and their insider was saying that there are lots of rumors that he decommitted because he wanted to get his Grant teammates some more chances to be seen. The thinking goes that if he is uncommitted, there will be more coaches coming out to see his games. Also, there are rumors that the Cal coaches actually told him to decommit so that he could bring more spotlight to Cal as a 5 star recruit who commits to Cal late in the process.

It'll be great to get him on campus (I'll still wait until he is on campus to actually believe it), b/c if he does come at least we have a chance. But seriously, do yourself a favor and don't get wrapped up in his recruitment - he's going to Cal.

Actually I believe Shaq's HS coach urges his players to wait on committing. Thinks they should take all their OV's and be sure.

LOL why is it everything has to have an ulterior motive? Can't he just want whats best for his kids

...we know their tricks

Heck I'll do it to tag along for free with my players to these top notch football programs.

I'll justify it by saying it's my reward for coaching up these kids to where they are now.

Those are tricks?

Coach: "Hey kid, you should check out all your options, this is a life long decision."

Student/Athlete: "Yeah your right. You know what coach? You've been like a father figure to me and someone whose opinion I trust, I think you should come along."

IE: "I see what you're doing....trickster."

Give me a break.
