Virginia is loaded this year

Virginia is loaded every year... they're just typically underrated. It's how Virginia Tech is always a very solid team without ever having a "good" recruiting class. They monopolize kids from the Virginia Beach area and there are a lot of talented skill position players there every year.

What is crazy about this year is the amount of talent in NoVA/the greater DC area. I haven't followed recruiting for a super-long time but this is miles ahead of the talent I'm used to seeing from this area with guys like Darby, Goodman, Carter, etc. etc. There are just LOADS of talent up here and the good news is that unlike Southern Virginia/Virginia Beach these guys aren't typically a lock for Virginia Tech at all and should be pretty open minded to all the big national players.

Beamer has restructured his recruiting staff just this year and will make it tough on everybody to poach. VTs old All-American defensive lineman, Corwin Brown, is prowling the whole Virginia area. Hopefully, because VA is so loaded this year, VT can eat all they want and we'll still get some really good players.

p.s./b.s. This almost has to be wrong, but I just went over to the VT site and counted only 15 seniors [some of whom could conceivably become 5th years. Plus, Beamer has something like 11 verbals already. It's hard for me to believe, but if the numbers are even close, VT might be a non-factor in recruiting soon for this year. [I suppose that "funny business" is always a possibility ... ex. I notice that Oklahoma State is somehow currently carrying 88 scholarships on their list. I must be missing some subtlety there, too].

Said its an honor to get an Notre Dame offer. We are one of his early favorites says he fit what he is looking for in a school academically and defensive wise.

Consensus 4 star by the major sites. Has seen his stock soar over the past 2 months much like I expect Okwara to. Very Athletic OLB would be a great back up plan if we can't get Odenigbo.

Centreville, eh? That's right down the street. Never paid much attention to this guy but I will certainly try to do some recon now.

EDIT: That is one hell of a highlight video.

In the next few weeks, I'm gonna be sitting down and looking at the schedules for some of our targets/commits to see if I can get out to see some of them play since we have a few in the DC area. Thinking Darby is a lock to check out. Although a Standford verbal (hoping that might change), Alex Carter is just too close not to go check out. I love me some high school football. September can't arrive fast enough. I'm starting to think I'm turing into that guy from Varsity Blues.

I would go see Carter for sure (seeing as I work out in Loudon) if it weren't for the fact that he was going to Stanford and the staff seems to have let up on him making me assume he is solid. Quite a bummer to me with him being legacy and local and rated so high.

I'll definitely go see Ekanem and Darby and I'm hoping CJ has a game at one of the private schools up this way. Football is a great way to spend Friday (early) evenings.

Setting up an OV for ND and Oregon. Va Tech and Virginia will be tough to beat out.

Top 9 per 247:
Michigan State, Boston College, Pitt, Oregon, Notre Dame, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Virginia.

As GB said, UVA and VA Tech remain the leaders for his services. I would say Oregon is third.

Actually, he's much more likely to end up at UVa than Tech from what I hear through the grapevine. This kid plays his ball in my old high school sports district.

We were in much better position before we started choking away games.

ND is most certainly in the mix for Ekanem. Especially considering the fact that his attention will pick up with Perkins opening things up.

We would have taken Perkins and Odenigbo, so my guess is that we would take Ekanem and Odenigbo.

Hard to tell if distance will play a factor in the end, but with his interest in Oregon and ND it's hard to see that being an issue.
