I just don't see how anyone can confuse this with the Lynch situation. A) Richardson never verballed to ND B) No one thought we were the front runner for him, not the majority anyway C) despite what some people want to believe, even though the majority of the Lynch saga did "get good" over the past week, it was in fact played out over months. It was obvious that Lynch had a history, a sort of legacy to follow at Notre Dame (his grandfather). His mother really wanted him here. He reportedly really wanted to be here. It was a struggle that lasted a LONG time, not just a week.
Richardson, on the other hand, has no familial ties to ND. He doesn't have his parents urging him here, that we know of. He's not worried about academics, that we know of. He sure as heck hasn't verballed here previously, then flipped, then debating flipping back. I'm sorry- it's just not the same.
Why are we so hard-pressed to equate this to Lynch? Is it because ultimately that was a happy ending for he and ND? ND will be fine with or without Richardson (preferably with), but if he doesn't want to play here he doesn't have to. All anyone ever said is the whole flip-flopping texts regarding news conferences is why we should think things through first is because it just looks bad. However, we also understand he's a kid, still. There's no hard feelings here towards Richardson. I hope everyone understands that none was ever meant.
