I never said it was grades or off field issue, but reading around it seems like the staff is higher on a couple other guys who they think they can land

very well could be...remember the coaches don't look at rivals and scout to see who they should be recruiting...they've got their own evaluation process and so far it seems to be working.

Apparently he was still interested, mentioned UGA and ND as places he would like to check out. Who knows if/why we have cooled on him. Could be like someone else mentioned that there are other guys we feel we have a better shot with.

Rutgers has always had a strong presence at Don Bosco. They haven't gotten all the prospects they have gone after, but they have certainly left a good impression, especially under Schiano. If ND isn't an option or his choice, I would love to see him at Rutgers.

as would I...Rutgers needs a lot more help than him, higgins, and shuler to get competitive, but they'll help.

According to a poster:

Its not grades, its transcripts. He transferred into Bosco from another school and its been a difficult process to gather all the necessary info in regards to how he fits academically/admissions wise.

Colleges and the NCAA Clearinghouse regularly deal with HS transcripts including a lot of transfers and multiple transfers. Sorting through which course at which HS meets the NCAA required core courses is usually only a problem when a school has taken liberties with a course description. "Introduction to the Hand Held Calculator for Jocks" doesn't cut it as an Algebra II equivalent.

IF his former school had sloppy record keeping or the second school was liberal in transferring credits problems can arise. Considering that this is Don Bosco where 95% or better of its graduates go on to college and quite a few or their graduates have had to go through the Clearinghouse process to secure an NCAA scholarship.

When ND was requiring more core courses than the NCAA and ND Admissions and the Athletic Department saw each other as adversaries transcript issues were a real problem for ND recruiting. For several years now the NCAA has required the same number of core courses as ND.

There were a couple of athletes admitted at ND that had Clearinghouse issues, Andy Wisne was held out of practrice as a freshman until a core course description conflict with the NCAA was resolved.

Bottom line if Wright has a transcript problem he has a Clearinghouse problem regardless of who offered. He also has plenty of time to get it resolved.

Didn't Utupo go through a clearinghouse issue in the fall?

Yuri transferred from Paterson Catholic which shut down. I wonder if the fact that they shut down is causing some issues with getting transcripts.

If his grades are good, why would we cool on him merely because of a potential transcript issue? Did other schools stop recruiting him because of his transcripts? I just get the feeling that there must be something else besides some potential classes not transfering.

Maybe because other schools dont have the academic standards that we do

seems like a lot of kids who favor schools early seem to tamper off when they take their time and take visits to other schools, which is probably the right thing to do to ensure that they are making the right decision.

Or, to play the devil's advocate, they take their time and get confused by professional salesman who make an emotional connection to them and then convince them to ignore the kind of things that were immediately apparent even to a casual observer.

Can anyone give insight whether the staff is pushing for him hard or has backed off? Yuri is rated incredibly high on a lot of services and I would be shocked if we weren't pushing for him... yet I'm hearing the staff has backed off even though he likes us? Please someone help me out.

Staff doesn't seem to be as high on him as recruiting services was what i was told. I dont understand why the kid can flat out ball. But staff just is still evaluating him.

Apparently the staff just talked with him and cleared the air. Believe he initiated the contact. They told him they are very high on him, and he is definitely going to take a visit.
