My understanding is we like him at the 5 technique also.

I could certainly see that considering he's basically a larger Stephon Tuitt. Would be really interesting to have two huge bruiser- type DEs with speed rusher Aaron Lynch. Would give our defense an awful lot of flexibility for keeping guys fresh and playing to running/passing downs.

Really fun to think about....

Other options for Penn State commit

8:21
AM ET2012

DT Jarron Jones TopEmailCommentsUPDATE:

Jarron Jones' plans have changed a bit. He is still a soft verbal to Penn State, but he has narrowed down his list of suitors to only three other options. Jones told JC Shurburtt of 247Sports.com that Michigan, North Carolina and Notre Dame are the other three schools that he will visit, apparently eliminating the likes of Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Rutgers from consideration. Jones did say how much he liked State College, so the Nittany Lions appear to be firmly in the driver's seat.

Jones' coach told Shurburtt that Jones' future position remains up in the air, with DT, DE and OT all possibilities.

Even though we are on the outside looking in for this kid, I am excited that he will at least visit us sometime in the future before he finalizes anything. Notre Dame is a special place, so hopefully he sees that on his visit and falls in love with South Bend. Anything is possible and NSD is a long way to go but I am grateful that he is at least going to check us out.

we've stolen a few commits in our day as well:

TJ Jones - Stanford
Golson - North Carolina
Hounshell - Florida
Lynch - Fla St (even though he was ours to begin with)
Tuitt - Ga Tech (same as lynch)
Nick Martin - Kentucky
Badger - Stanford
Massa - Cincinnatti
Nichols - Stanford

all recruits that this staff has talked out of a previous commitment so it can be done.

I hear you. I would love for our coaching staff to steal this one for sure.

How about the occasional 4 man front with Nix and Tuitt inside and Kona and Lynch on the edges. That's alot of beef.

Apparently will visit Louisville and Syracuse in addition to ND, Mich, and UNC. He has said he doesn't need to take an official to Penn State because he already knows what the campus is like. Recruits typically have short term memories so we shall see what happens.

Appears he trimmed hist list to only four schools now.

Notre Dame-Penn State-North Carolina-Syracuse

Quoted he didn't like getting pulled out of class every minute so he trimmed it to get people off his back. Good attitude to have for a DT.

I like our chances with him should he go through with this and visit.

Visiting North Carolina on Memorial Day....Michigan and ND on the last weekend in June and Louisville sometime in July.

Won't make an official to Penn State because he has been there before.

Believes he will make offcials to Notre Dame, Syracuse, Michigan, North Carolina, and Louisville in the fall.

NSD decision.

Contradictory to his "final four" list from another site I read but he wants to see as many schools as possible to see if any can pull his love away from PSU.

I'm curious as to whether we really want him at DE or NT.

I've seen his height listed between 6'4'' and 6'7''. Both Rivals and Scout currently have him at 6'5''. That's too tall for NT, no?

From everything we have heard we like him at the 5 technique

I agree it does seem tall for a NT. You picture a NT being a shorter bowling ball just banging into people in the middle taking up space. If he has the speed you could say he is better fit for DE. But if not then I'm sure they will overlook the height and play him at NT. But look at Albert Haynesworth -- 6'6"

in a 3-4 defense a 5 tech turns into a nose by being the run stuffing defensive end a lot of times.

i like him at nose...if he's got the frame to add some more good weight and with most centers being in the 6'3" to 6'5" range, that would make him an absolute beast to move in the middle.
