Janoris Jenkins of Florida Gators dismissed from team following latest arrest - ESPN

Haven't seen this up yet. Thought it was a pretty significant message sent by the new staff in Gainsville. I am impressed with this decision by Muschamp. Janoris was a sure 1st rounder in this years draft, the best player on the team without a doubt. You can tell from the headline that Urban Meyer is no longer roaming the sidelines in the Swamp.

Todd McShay listed him as the 12th best prospect in this year's draft class, so he may be regretting his decision to stay in school.

It's a different situation than Floyd's, not because of the crime(s) of the players (I think Floyd's was much more serious), but because of the coaching/crime situation at each school. Kelly had already completed a season at ND and has a group of players with relatively few disciplinary problems. Muschamp is a new coach attempting to change the culture in a program where criminal activity had been tolerated in recent years. He is setting the tone for the beginning of his era at Florida and dismissing his star player will definitely open some eyes and show the rest of the team that he is a no-nonsense type of guy. Had Muschamp been there for a few years, I think he would have dealt with it differently, but in this situation, he is trying to make a bold statement to his program.

Everyone here on UF campus is stunned. People expected no suspension or a few games, not to be dismissed. The kids an absolute stud, and Florida will miss him for sure next year.

Oh well, should have learned from his mistake the first or second time.

Indeed, I think the issue is with it being his third strike. 3 arrests? Hard to tolerate without looking soft in front of all of your other players.

While Mike was cited for other 'alcohol related' incidents the recent DUI is really a unique occurrence on many levels. It's important to remember that he's still indefinitely suspended... and while the parallels are easy to make there are also some really big differences.

Strong message, dare I say stronger than the ones we've been sending.

I would say these situations are different. Floyd only has one real charge. His other two (minor consumption, please) can be removed from your record by paying the ticket. College kids get busted for drinking, it's that simple. Getting busted driving around with pot like you own the town twice in 3 months is different. I'm not defending driving drunk, that was plain stupidity. But if Floyd had gotten two minor consumptions in the past 3 months and nothing else, would we really be calling for him to be kicked off the team? I don't think so. These are different situations and clearly different kids.

Remember: Floyd is at ND. If he was really as much trouble as Jenkins, he would have gone to USC.

Got to remember Florida has had over 30 arrests during the Meyer era. Could be Muschamp setting an example and letting the team know there is a new sheriff in town. Good for him. I think kicking off a player for multiple arrests is much more effective than saying he won't put up with more arrests in front of cameras.

PS... **** Urban Meyer

Yep. Gotta drop the hammer from day one. Hopefully there were other circumstances involved (e.g., one more and you're out...) and not just coach dropping the hammer to make a statement. But, coach needs to drop the hammer from day one.

it defintely shows that things at UF are being ran differently now. It makes me think Muschamp identified that(player discipline, criminal behavior) a problem and is taking steps to correct it. If Muschamp keeps this up, I might think the program at UF is respectable...

as far as the comparisons to the Floyd situation; from a legal/discipline point of view I do think its apples and oranges, if Floyds issue was with an illegal substance I believe it would put him in line with (ex)UF Jenkins. But Alcohol is not an illegal substance, and obviously marijuana is. I think its a fine line, but a line nonetheless. I'm glad that Floyd is on this side of the line.
