If I'm not mistaken Michigan still holds the all time winning percentage with .735 to our .734. Is it possible for us to reclaim the record this year and if so what would our final records have to be to reclaim it?

if we beat them this year I think we take it... at least for the moment... could be wrong though... the numbers are VERY close

I tried to calculate this in a thread a while back. Someone should check my figuring but I think if we go 10-3 and they go 7-6, we pass them.

We had a thread on it during the last bowl season. Here's a post (1/05/11) I had with the numbers and comments on the 2011 season.

http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/notre-dame-football/57819-winning.html#post441245

I looked up the actual numbers during the Michigan disembowelment. Stassen and College Football Data Warehouse disagree about the totals so I went to the UND and UM official football sites. Here are the totals through 2010. ND is still 2.5 games behind. They'll have to pick up 3 more wins than Michigan to retake the lead. Michigan's got an easy opening schedule in 2011. ND should be the only loss. They open with WMU, then ND, EMU, SDS, MN, NW, MSU, PU, IA, IL, NU, and OSU. The latter half of the schedule has a bunch of "L"s.

If ND establish's a solid #1 QB in Spring Ball, they could well retake the lead in '11.

HTML:
Team	Wins	Loses	Ties	Winning %
UM	884	310	36	0.733333
ND	845	295	42	0.732657

Nice work. I remember that discussion...basically no matter how many games they win, if we win 3 more, we get the title back. So if they win 10, here we come 13-0!

ND was number one until a few years ago. I remember watching the game (I think it may actually have been against Michigan - I could be wrong) and the announcers kept mentioning that with a loss, ND would lose its number one percentage winning status and Michigan would take its place.

Ever since that game, I hope like hell Mich. loses every game. I am very aware of that stat.
