I have a fairly large degree of confidence that the thing that's going to be the most impressive for the visiting athletes is the almost wild enthusiasm the guys have about ND football this Spring. This atmosphere has to be different than almost any place out there this year. [powerhouses just have a strutting atmosphere; mediocres are mediocre; but up-and-coming green-Koolaid-drinking wildmen have got to be infectitious]. Both the vets and the signed class seem fired up. This has to wow some of the newbies.

It's been reported through B&G Mauk may not be making a return trip for the game tomorrow.

He still remains ND's best shot at an elite QB at this time.

Two other QBS are set to visit, although: Casey Cochran and James Knapke.

Here is a complete list of others reported to be set to visit, along with offer status according to B&G in alphabetical order according to the recruits last name:

S Nicky Baratti: ND offered
WR Dalis Bruce: interested
QB Casey Cochran: interested
LS Scott Daly: interested
WR Amara Darboh: ND offered
ATH Ronald Darby: ND offered
OT Taylor Decker: committed
WR Justin Ferguson: ND offered
QB James Knapke: interested
WR Jon Moore: interested
OT Chris Muller: interested
OLB Se'von Pittman: ND offered
DT Tommy Schutt: ND offered
CB Tee Shepard: committed
WR Bryce Treggs: ND offered
S John Turner: interested
WR Kodi Whitfield: interested

It's interesting to me so many of the visitors aren't offered yet. I'm really hoping for Darby to dig the environment. We all have wishlists, and he's at the top of mine...

This is all Sapp's work over at Blue and Gold. Straight up, the guy is freakin' awesome.

Per ISD, announcers for the Spring game are going to be Hammond, Mayock, and Shaun King on the sideline.

WTF!?! That means I'll need to drink a few extra beer before the game just to understand that babbling idiot!

Saturday's winners will feast on steaks while the losers will eat hot dogs. The offensive line plans to eat steaks regardless.

Absolute posers on the lacrosse program. Seriously. And I just heard Michigan is doing some **** like this too this year. I guess this what happens when ESPN pays you to go write a feature on a tradition... everyone starts copy catting.

But I get it... Coach Kelly wants the team to feel like winners... what a better way than to start taking cues from women's soccer, fencing, men's lacrosse and women's basketball? Maybe we'll see Golson rocking a Skylar Diggins jersey a la Lil' Wayne.

I would rock a Skylar Diggins jersey.

I think this is verbatim what was the skinny on last year's winners and losers if I recall correctly.

And I believe before that also...

If you say so... when I google generic 'steak and hot dog football' my article is #4 and I don't see anything about college football except at #5 "winning wolverines will get steak" from an article dated two days ago. All I know is that Coach Corrigan has been doing it for years and it was "unique" enough I got paid to fly up and write an article on a fall lacrosse scrimmage.

I think it's a great idea... guys always played really hard in our lacrosse B&G games over the years because of that faux incentive. It more just creates something to play for and gets guys kinda focused on bragging rights.

So while I'm being sarcastic about BK being a "poser".. I am actually upset that the Skunkbears would sully something I hold close to my heart. Just one more reason to dislike Michigan in my book.

24/7 National Recruiting notes:

Notre Dame was one of the big storylines in college football recruiting during the 2011 cycle- the Fighting Irish signed one of the top defensive line classes in the country and finished with the nation’s No. 8 overall class.

This weekend is an opportunity for the Irish to start to make similar waves in 2012. They will have dozens of unofficial visitors on campus for their annual Blue-Gold Game.

Athlete Ronald Darby (Potomac, Md./Oxon Hill) is one of the fastest prospects in the country. He’s been timed consistently at below 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash and could play cornerback, safety or running back in college and also contribute in the return game. Heading into the unofficial visit, the Fighting Irish are in good shape and have the opportunity to really make an impression on the nation’s No. 64 overall prospect.

The most likely visitor to commit to Notre Dame this weekend is safety Nick Baratti (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak). The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, who has a double digit offer count, could grow into an outside linebacker in college and has sub-4.6 speed in the 40.

The Irish also are in good shape for the top prospect from the state of Iowa in this class, wide receiver Amara Darboh (West Des Moines/Dowling Catholic). The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder is the nation’s No. 148 overall prospect and the No. 15 receiver.

Notre Dame also is in good shape with wide receivers Justin Ferguson (Hollywood, Fla./Flanagan), Bryce Treggs (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) and Kodi Whitfield (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola). Ferguson and Treggs have been offered by the Irish while Whitfield is receiving high interest. All will be on campus this weekend.

Four-star defensive tackle Tommy Schutt (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and four-star outside linebacker Se’von Pittman (Canton, Ohio/McKinley), both members of The247, are also among the highlighted visitors.

Weather forecast still showing showers early, harder rain later, high of 52. At least it will probably be sunny and 55 on Sunday if people stick around to look around campus. Hey, it's better than snow, right?

I have been meaning to ask this, even though I think I know the answer, and I haven't seen it asked yet. But can the recruits at the Blue and Gold game be contacted by the analysis during the game? Such as a side line reporter talking to them, or would that be a recruiting violation?

Landing Darby this weekend is looking like a decent possibility. Heard he is having a great time, and is hanging out with the other recruits.

Sweeeeeeeeeet! God I want his speed. If he does it only improves our chances with Marshall. Btw, did we ever find out why he didn't make the trip? I saw he has a track meet this morning.

Davaris seems like a recruiting ace-in-the-hole, an obviously elite stud athlete who is in childish joy about being set for ND. If we can pile on his lead, we might really shine this day.

Marshall is definitely a Georgia lean, but I also heard about the track meet. Regardless, there is plenty of time left to go, and if Cierre has a big season I feel OK about our chances.
