I think we still play them because its been going on since 1949I don't know why we stop playing them for a couple years, but I also don't understand why we play MSU in the first place. Who cares about MSU? They're pretty insignificant as a college football program and it is a middle-of-the-road state university. I'd much rather play a different team, with which an annual game made sense, every year. Northwestern, BYU and BC are all much more sensible annual games. I see no reason to play all four, in addition to Michigan, USC, Pitt, Purdue, Army and Navy. My choice would be to cut MSU out of the rotation.
Im with you, I wish we never played armyWith so many games considered "rivalries" for ND, it's hard to keep them all every year and expect to keep a progressive schedule exposing your program nationwide. MSU is a tough one to lose though, and I think it should be a staple.
IMO, the rivalries in order of importance (by taking into account history, significance, heatedness, basically everything):
U$C
Michigan
Navy (slight edge over MSU)
Michigan State
Boston College
Stanford
Purdue
Pitt
Army
The bolded ones wouldn't bother me if completely cut from the schedule for good, with exception to possibly an occasional game against Purdue. I just can't get into the BC or Stanford game as much as some, they seem like made-up rivalries to me, much like Arkansas-LSU.
The Big Ten (12).
Delany loves us. A lot. Like a thin line between love and hate. He touches himself thinking about us playing in his conference. And then he wakes up. Mad. Madder than hell.
I know this will enrage quite a few people on here, but I always kind of hoped ND would join the B10. I already root for tB10 during bowl season, so to me it's a perfect match.
No not at all.
I ****in' hate you.
Nice observation.

I am not enraged, but I do not think ND needs to join the Massengill Conference with the rest of the NCAA douche nozzles.
**** the Big 10.
The Boston College rivalry should continue. I hate Fredo, and they deserve to be curb stomped.
As a Michigander I can concur with the amount of suck in Michigan. Also, I've been around a lot of fans from rival schools, and I have NEVER EVER in my life encountered such arrogant, rude, obnoxious fans from any other school except Michigan. They aren't just like this to ND fans, the MSU/scUM rivalry can come to blows sometimes. Just udderly ridiculous. And the kicker? 99% of michigan teams are also CUBS fans.
So somewhere deep in their "id" lives good taste.
What a caveat...

as long as we are an indy we will play Navy.
That was really f'in funny! But your advanced technical description, may be too advanced for some of those who would best benefit from your wisdom!I am not enraged, but I do not think ND needs to join the Massengill Conference with the rest of the NCAA douche nozzles.
