I think in a couple of years ND is not playing MSU, does anybody know why we are not?

Maybe just a change of pace, I believe they don't play in 2014 and 1015, but they resume play in 2016 and 1017. Those are all tentative though.

I don't know why we stop playing them for a couple years, but I also don't understand why we play MSU in the first place. Who cares about MSU? They're pretty insignificant as a college football program and it is a middle-of-the-road state university. I'd much rather play a different team, with which an annual game made sense, every year. Northwestern, BYU and BC are all much more sensible annual games. I see no reason to play all four, in addition to Michigan, USC, Pitt, Purdue, Army and Navy. My choice would be to cut MSU out of the rotation.

The Big Ten (12).

Delany loves us. A lot. Like a thin line between love and hate. He touches himself thinking about us playing in his conference. And then he wakes up. Mad. Madder than hell.

With so many games considered "rivalries" for ND, it's hard to keep them all every year and expect to keep a progressive schedule exposing your program nationwide. MSU is a tough one to lose though, and I think it should be a staple.

IMO, the rivalries in order of importance (by taking into account history, significance, heatedness, basically everything):

U$C
Michigan
Navy (slight edge over MSU)
Michigan State
Boston College
Stanford
Purdue
Pitt
Army

The bolded ones wouldn't bother me if completely cut from the schedule for good, with exception to possibly an occasional game against Purdue. I just can't get into the BC or Stanford game as much as some, they seem like made-up rivalries to me, much like Arkansas-LSU.

I know this will enrage quite a few people on here, but I always kind of hoped ND would join the B10. I already root for tB10 during bowl season, so to me it's a perfect match.

Well the Hawks did that to both of us last night. Lucky me I didn't get to watch until the 2nd period because the stupid Caps-Rangers game went into OT, and it was looking bleak by that point. I miss Sportsvision/Sportschannel/Fox Sports Chicago/Comcast Sports Chicago so much. Pat Foley is God.

I am not enraged, but I do not think ND needs to join the Massengill Conference with the rest of the NCAA douche nozzles.

The Boston College rivalry should continue. I hate Fredo, and they deserve to be curb stomped.

I love beating MSU. I really dislike them. I don't know about the rest of you, but I dislike the entire state of Michigan.

Side note, why do the trees in Indiana point north?

Cause Michigan sucks.

As a Michigander I can concur with the amount of suck in Michigan. Also, I've been around a lot of fans from rival schools, and I have NEVER EVER in my life encountered such arrogant, rude, obnoxious fans from any other school except Michigan. They aren't just like this to ND fans, the MSU/scUM rivalry can come to blows sometimes. Just udderly ridiculous. And the kicker? 99% of michigan teams are also CUBS fans.

yea livin in indy i had a few michigan fans as friends growing up...when we were young it was just a friendly rivalry...but as weve gotten older, the rivalry has grown much much more because of how obnoxious they are about it every year. It gets incredibly annoying, but we cant hardly say anything to them cause they have whooped our a**es recently...our time will come against them soon

So somewhere deep in their "id" lives good taste.

What a caveat...

Growing up and living 15 minutes from MSU, I've had the unfortunate task of living with all these people who ride the line between MSU & UM. It just matters on who is better at the time. I will say that the MSU fans have a bigger mouth when it comes to being the frontrunner. UM fans are more arrogant in that they think they are always good and always have been.
Also, MSU & UM are taking breaks from our series so that MSU can play Alabama home & home. I'm not sure who Michigan plays in our place.

as long as we are an indy we will play Navy.

considering notre dame is indebted to navy for life, I dont see this series ever ending regardless of what conference the irish are in.

Exactly right; I think the correct language for the length of the series is, "In perpetuity . . ." Without Navy sending so many Midi's, at the close of the last great depression and durring the Second World War, there would be no Notre Dame!

psssh! Haha thanks! I try to be tactful, mostly because I'm the only (known) lady here, and because it's a forum. I can't really let my inner trucker tell you all what I really think of big 10.

Stanford is very important to recruiting.
It gives us a game played in the state of California every season.
If we had to drop a rival, I'd pick Purdue.
It adds almost nothing to recruiting and is the game that matters least on a national level.
The rest all hold emotional significance to me.
