Thanks for the update

LCL isn't bad from what I've heard, but anything ACL related is not good

Man I feel bad for McDonald, terrible luck.

McDonald can just never stay healthy, I feel for the kid. Hopefully Kendall and Poz can step it up in his absence.

McDaniel can't get here soon enough.

Tough news. Do you think that McDaniel would be able to get a good handle on the offense from June-August and be able to contribute?

Also savon Huggins you wanted early PT...well you would have gotten it here!

People keep saying that; but do you really think he was the right kind of player for a program like ND? I don't see one bit of evidence that he would have fit, or excelled, from press conferences, to tapes, to AA game performances.

No, I hope CAM recovers quickly, and I will put my faith in a two CAM system . . .

We still have a few personalities to deal with from the Weiss era, we don't need to add to that. Good luck in your recovery CAM. You have the personality, character, and tallent to come through a better man!

And so it begins... injuries are the worst but they are an unavoidable part of sports.

Also, people need to get off the Savon Huggins bug. Sorry, but in my opinion, the way he carried himself throughout the recruitment process made me very uncomfortable.

Amir Carlisle, on the other hand, was a HUGE miss. Seemed like a kid with a very good head on his shoulders. Very religious and picked USC for their film school and educational opportunities. While he will likely be buried on the Trojan depth chart for some time he could have been an immediate contributor in both the passing and running game at ND.

Good point. I was reading that Amir will likely redshirt his freshman year due to USC's depth. It would have been great to have Carlisle, but oh well, life goes on.

RB's are usually one position where freshmen can contribute early most easily - the only area I would be concerned with is pass protection. If Cam can show that he is a able protector, I see no reason why he couldn't contribute.

He'll also get it at Rutgers though. They just moved their leader rusher from last year to CB to pave the way for Savon to start, although they are stating that wasn't the main reason...

Despite both coach Greg Schiano and rising sophomore Jordan Thomas saying that Thomas' move from RB to CB had nothing to do with the summertime arrival of four-star RB Savon Huggins (No. 28 in the ESPNU 150), well, let's just say that we're not buying.

At exit meetings following last season, Schiano claims he asked Thomas, the team's leading rushing in 2010, "What do you want to play? What do you think you are?" Schiano continues: "I was just asking kind of rhetorically. I thought he was going to say, 'I'm a tailback.' (But) he said, 'I'm a shutdown corner.'"

OK, so coach and player are sticking to their story. Regardless, the move does pave the way for Huggins to step right into the starting lineup, where if all goes according to plan, he will be the anchor of the offense for three seasons before seeking NFL riches. Where it leaves Thomas is less certain; he's currently a third-team defender, behind two juniors, a sophomore and a senior.

"You look at NFL teams nowadays and the cornerbacks are starting to get taller, starting to get more lankier and faster," said the 6-foot-1, 188-pound Thomas said. "I was just thinking I would transition very well as a cornerback later on. ... I think I can contribute much more as a cornerback than a running back."

A smart/experienced QB can help train an inexperienced RB...I remember in high school our QB had to tell our RB what to do 80% of the time. With Crist and Rees the two frontrunners for the position their brains will help a couple freshmen at RB

If he recovers like Dayne, he will be back by fall. From what I read its 5-6 weeks then rehab. I dunno how severe it is but thats what a few searches have said.

Keep in mind the partially torn ACL though. I will be very happy if he's ready for Fall camp, but that's all I'm hoping for.

This is the part that scares me. Grade 1, 2, 3, ??? ..... Hope we get to hear more soon on the expected recovery time.

yea i agree...the torn LCL doesn't worry me as much as the ACL. I've heard of players playing with a torn LCL, but it is very difficult to play with an ACL, seen it done but very difficult/painful

MCL or LCL alone could have about the same recovery time, MCL heals quicker typicallly. So he needs surgery because he got the ACL and LCL most likely his LCL is disrupted (completely torn) and it will take 8-10 weeks to fully heal the LCL alone, not including the rehab. Long story short it's going to be months but could be back for fall practice. We won't know until they see the ACL in surgery and the full extent of the disrupted LCL.

This must have been a real ugly looking fall, getting the LCL and ACL at the same time is not 'easy'. MCL and ACL is way more common.

Damn shame. I was really excited to see what this young man had to offer, especially considering the accolades he earned on the scout team last year.
