The offer list is good...
but unless this kid's hands drag the ground as he stands straight up he is wayyy too small,and I know 40 times cant always be a good way to tell,but almost a 4.6 is a slow speed for a db...
I completely trust our coaches in recruiting...but I'm not sure on this one.

I'd like to know what is special about this player [which something is or Beamer would have never gone out of his usual range to get him]. The Tech coaching staff told me that if a player ends up on their roster who is from a distance away, then "he recruited us", meaning that the player initiated the contact. If true in this case, Manning might be very tough to flip. Also that VT defensive back coach is, unfortunately for us in this case, a veritable genius at player development. Coach Kelly must, however, see some genuine hope here, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We certainly could use a Pac-Man Jones-sized stellar DB [without Pac-Man's "baggage"].

He committed without seeing campus....later went to campus and firmed up his commitment but is still open to listening to other schools. His family is the big pusher to "keep things open".

"The Closers", Bob Diaco and Tony Alford went to go see him last week. He said they talked to his head coach and said they came down here to get the best.

Manning is quoted in saying he loves the program. He said he guarantees ND will get one of his official visits in the fall.

I kind of wondered that too, but he is only a CB from everything I can find.

Also, The same arguement used in support of Prosise can be used for Manning. If Virginia Tech and UNC (Butch Davis) want you as a DB, it is usually a good indication that you are a exceptional DB.

Instinctually and athletically Donaldven Manning is certainly elite. The recent Virginia Tech commit commit has outstanding quickness and coverage ability. But he is strikingly small. Manning is listed at 5-10, 165 but the weight seems generous. He has a very petite frame and will have trouble adding weight though he plays with a scrapper’s mentality.

Coming from a pretty tough competition level in Dade-County has done wonders for Donaldven. He's a physical, play making football player. He's a solid athlete but what really stands out is his ability to get to passes and make plays in both the passing and running game. He's ahead mentally then most HS CBs so there's a decent chance he could see the field early at the next level if he can add some good weight and bulk.

I have no right to second guess Kelly/Diaco or VT, Miami etc, so this is just stream-of-consciousness, BUT: his high school coach talked about how much further along Manning is than other HS DBs because of technique training, film work on tendencies, et al. He has trained with veteran defensive backs and even D????? [spelling?] Revis. Well, great as to attitude and accomplishment, but what does this say about his "ceiling" as a college DB?? Can it be that he doesn't have that much further to grow compared with other prospects?? I'll admit to ignorance, say that I liked his quick decision-making after the snap and his awareness, but I'm still wondering ....

And, like LAX, I wondered if we were looking at one of Kelly's famous broad "skill" category athletes here, and if we were seeing WR possibilities, but there is none of that in the highlight films.

I know so many people have said it but I just can't get over his measurables. Every time I click on his thread I see the measurables and I just can't help but question why he is being recruited... but measurables don't mean everything and Kelly and co. know best so I guess I will just have to get over it
