BYU's Davies suspended for the season
March 1, 2011 10:01 pm Posted by Jeff Borzello

A win at San Diego State, a consensus No. 1 seed in mock brackets and the inside track to a Mountain West title – the good vibes for BYU were adding up.
That changed on Tuesday, as forward Brandon Davies was suspended for the rest of the season after an Honor Code violation, as first reported by Jason Franchuk of the Daily Herald. The school confirmed the report shortly thereafter.
“Due to a violation of the BYU honor code, Brandon Davies will not represent the university on the men’s basketball team throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 season,” a release from the school stated. There was no further information given, although the Herald did report that Davies and three other players missed Monday’s practice. He was receiving treatment for a quadriceps injury, according to Franchuk.
Davies, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, had started 26 games this season for the Cougars. He was averaging 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds, giving BYU a big man who could run the floor and finish in transition against slower post players.
Without Davies in the lineup, expect Stephen Rogers to see more time down low. Rogers is an inside-outside threat who showed flashes of his potential with three double-figure scoring games in February.

In the SEC the rest of the season would mean the next game. At ND forget March Madness. I suspect BYU's policy will be similar to ND's.

BYU's Honor Code prohibits drinking, smoking, drugs, and sex outside of marriage.

I wonder what he did. My guess is they found a case of Pepsi in his apartment. On a more serious note, it sounded like he was their best defender. I'll be interested to see how this affects their current 1 seed.

This really kills their chances at making a deep run in the tourney. He was their best interior player, and a go-to look for Jimmer down low. This one really hurts the Mormons.

Does anyone remember Davidson's roster including Steph Curry that made a deep run from a few years back? Were their other starters better or worse than BYU's current roster other than the Jimmer?

...That sucks for the team, the kid, and the program...I figure they lose alot earlier in the tourney...how many recruits did that just cost the program...a program headed for bigger things...the timing is as if a U of U guy planned it :)

I hope they help him fix whatever it is so he can get a shot at some redemption...

This is crap. I hate seeing this kind of thing happen to a team like BYU. I want them to go as far as they can, so I can Fredette teach them how to Jimmer! Now a great starter gets benched over looking like Grizzly Adams or keeping his girl happy!

BYU being out rebounded 42-15.

Yikes! Didn't know you were talking about the current game!!! Looks
like that's going to hurt them worst than I thought!

I'm hope he pounded that A$$ for such punishment... Unbelievable. A lot of those mormon girls when I lived up there did the butt thing in order to keep in tact their "sacred" membrane.

Unbelievable the dude gets his college career taken away from him over this kind of crap.

A lot of intolerance on here. Davies knew the rules when he enrolled at BYU. He likely knew even before then because he grew up in Provo. He knew what he was signing up for and failed to follow the rules.

I applaud BYU for sticking with its policy. They abided by the rules set forth for their students and held them accountable. That's how it's supposed to be.

If you want to have sex before marriage, then don't go to BYU. It's also not like the school expelled Davies for this. He simply can't play anymore this season. He'll get another chance.

Btw, ND did something similar when they booted McAlarney from the team for marijuana possession. Actually, ND expelled him. It taught McAlarney a lesson, from which he learned something. He also busted his *** to get back everything he lost. I hope Davies can make a similar return to glory.

In other news, they had such a great time the other night that the girlfriend has since dumped Davies and turned protestant.

He has a girl 3 months pregnant, and some student ratted him out.

He was adopted by a family in Provo, before high school, he lived in the shadow of BYU, he knew the Honor Code.

Instead of the crude thing Johnnykillz said, most students when they want to have sex, will go to Las Vegas and just get married.

He isnt a lock to come back next season, he has to apply for re instatement.
Harvey Unga got kicked off a couple times for similiar circumstances, and finally for good his last year.
Jim McMahon, had honor code violation, after violation, but he was never even given a warning. But alot has changed since then.

Crude? I prefer forthright. Who cares... Ketchup or catsup I suppose. When you set standards like those, which are highly unachievable, then 90% of the kids doing it, are doing so by lying. Now compound the lack of birth control due to embarassment and fear of reprisal should someone find out, and you have babies (which are a blessing.) This will certainly twart the young'uns lives.

Pick your poison.

BTW, I had no idea you could be "reinstated" after getting kicked out. Once again, what a way to push the issue. "We'll let you back in, so long as you promise to never again have premarital sex, as you did before." And so on...

It's a conspiracy. Human nature is to push the envelope, especially where sex is involved. Create something so simple as deviance and limit birth control, and "BOOM!," you got many more mormons.
