Pettitte is a first ballot hall of famer, and at least he admitted what he did, unlike Ortiz, Manny, and Mr." He misheard me" Clemens (Dead Sox when he did steroids).

Pettitte didnt need steroids to improve his game, he has thrown cutters and curve balls his whole career, he is hardly the poster child for steroid use, when he said he used them to rehab an injury, I believe him, all that question his greatness, must be Dead Sox fans.

5 championship, and how many series clinching victories? He also has an outstanding record when the Yankees our coming off a loss. Argueably the greatest post season pitcher of our generation.

His move to first/balk is going to be inshrined by itself in the HOF.

What a weapon, he is the main reason the Yanks have won 5 more championships, what a sad day for Yankee fans, when Bernie retired I felt old, now I feel ancient.

Yea going to be a rough year unless they can find two starters. Heard they were talking to millwood.

Congrats to andy on a great career and it's a sad day for yankees fans.

I am a life long Yankee hater and I must say that it was a pleasure to see Petit pitch. He was a class act and an all around nice guy. I despise how PEDs have changed the game but if I had to give a pass to one guy, it would be Petit. He is a good, hard working, Christian man who deserves his praise. I don't know about a first ballot HOFer but he will get in someday.

Sidenote: I am a state certified baseball umpire and even I would be hesitant to call his move a balk. It is perhaps the most borderline call I've ever seen.

When he was with the Astros = 0 Championships.
With the Yankees = 5 Championships.

His style fit Yankee Stadium (old/new), he wasnt afraid to pitch in the big game.

Gonna miss big game Andy.. Yanks are gonna need some exceptional performances from Burnett and Nova on the mound this year.. Solid lineup and solid bullpen

I am an absolute die-hard Yankee fan, but he is not even close to a 1st ballot Hall of Famer, 666. He is borderline HOF at best, and I believe the HGH situation will push him into the "just out" category. As one baseball executive put it best (as a compliment), he was the best #3 starter of his generation. I love him, he was an absolute warrior. He and O'Neill are the two toughest gamers I have ever seen. Hope he comes back to the Stadium soon for his well deserved salute.

2011 is going to be rough.

No sh!t. Lifelong Yankee fan, I doubt that they'll have much of a chance to win AL East this year due no complete starting pitching staff. CC and Hughes, that's about it! A.J. Burnett defintely sux! Joba ... Sergio Mitre ... I don't see it happening! Damn ... a long season ahead!

They have a good stable of young pitchers coming up, and have some great catchers in the system. They just need to give them a chance and see how they pan out, which is probably what they will be forced to do this year anyway. Keep an eye out for Dellin Betances, Manny Banuelos, and possibly Andrew Brackman. Betances is going to be a stud starter, mark my words. Banuelos is going to be a solid left reliever. Brackman has huge upside but has trouble staying healthy. Nova hopefully could improve and have a good year as well.

"They have a good young stable of pitching", key word "young".

If they dont make a blockbuster deal, they will finish 3rd maybe 4th in the east.

If Burt Blyleven(?), being an average player, can ever make the hall, I think even with the "taint" on this era, Andy still has to be a first timer.?

D Rays and Blue Jays, I love the Yankees, but without solid starting pitching, the potent offense they think we will have, wont even matter.
And too be honest, AROD seems like he is fading, Jeter?, Tex? Martin? the outfield, what in the name of "The Boss" is that. These young kids better be ready to produce or every body will start hearing my "Don Mattingly" should be manager rant.

Did Tampa join another league?

NY only had 10 less losses than Toronto with Petitte's 13 wins.

This year's Yankee rotation will be reminescent of "Spahn, Sain, Pray For Rain!"

Sabathia, Hughes, then we lose!

If Seattle starts slow Felix, but I kinda heard a little something awhile back about........ hold your breath.... Tex/Joba/ minor leagers for a certain STL Cardinal first basemen, but then there was talk about him invoking his no trade clause so...

Did Tampa Bay not lose Garza, Pena, Crawford, Soriano, Bartlett, Benoit, Wheeler, and Balfour? Their best reliever is now Kyle Farnsworth for crying out loud. Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez are supposed to make up the majority their offense! What am I missing here. How does this team beat the Yankees in the East, even with their questionable rotation.

And the Blue Jays? Have we taken notice of their offseason? This is their project lineup:

Rajai Davis, CF
Yunel Escobar, SS
Jose Bautista, 3B
Juan Rivera, RF
Adam Lind, 1B
Travis Snider, LF
Aaron Hill, 2B
Edwin Encarnacion, DH
J.P. Arencibia, C

Forgive me if that does not scare me. They will be relying on young pitchers almost primarily, and have nothing close to an ace, or a dominant bullpen.

I just think the Yanks have gotten old again. They have 1 starting pitcher, and with all the innings he has pitched recently......Burnett has got to win 18 plus games and, who knows. Hughes, I like him but he did struggle at the end of the season.

The Rays and Jays can hit, and all the AL BEAST stadiums are hitter friendly.

Dont get me wrong, the Yanks could win 100+ games, the talent is there. And I will be rooting for them too. Im just nervous about, ARODS hip, Jeter and his decline, starting pitching, Tex and his slow starts, the outfield and its lack of power. Right now 2nd place (wild card) sounds good.

OK, say Sabathia and Hughes each win 20 games, where do the other 60+ wins come from?

Burnett
Mitre
Colon
Nova
Garcia
Joba
Rivera
Rest of the bullpen

There is no way they win 100 games, but I believe they will reach the 90 win number. Remember that no starter (including Pettitte, who was hurt almost the entire second half) won more than 11 games beside your two givens, Sabathia and Hughes. 20 wins came from the bullpen last year, and it is not unreasonable to believe that the number will be consistent or even rise to the 23-25 area based upon the strength of the bullpen this year. If you believe that the change of the pitching could help Burnett, there is that, although I personally do not trust him more than I can through him. However, 10 wins from him (if he stays healthy) should at least be expected. That leaves the contingent of Nova, Colon, Mitre, Garcia and the forgotten Alfredo Aceves and possibly even Mark Prior (not even counting a possible trade) to pick up a combined 20 to get to a 93-95 number, based upon your given of 40 for the top 2, which admittedly might be a bit high. Keep in mind that the offense will win each starter a couple games they have no business winning, as it should even be improved from last year, with a healthy Posada not having to catch and keep his bat at the DH spot.
