I didn't really know where to put this thread, so the good ole Leprechaun Lounge she goes. I live in Canada, and play rep hockey. At my game a couple weeks ago I spotted a ND scout before the game..and got instant jitters. I though it was pretty cool, that a Notre Dame hockey scout was at my game.

Where else have you guys seen ND scouts, and what sports?

I'm gonna go off topic, but a few years back when my football team went to state and we played at the Carrier Dome. I guess their were a ton of Big East and MAC scouts, which is cool. And my senior season when I was playing hockey we had some RIT scouts and a few other local schools at our games.

I know you asked for ND, but just thought i'd share anyways

One of my hs teammates went to ND and played LB. I have to admit that it was pretty cool seeing Ty Willingham at my highschool. This was at the time when ND was playing great under Ty. Obviously, his success was short lived but seeing a big time D1 coach at my little high school was still really neat for me at that time.

Haha yeah sorry guys. I completely missed out on that. They are some country clubs in Hershey so I'm sure that's the reason he was there. I didn't know if a chocolate factory would be attractive to him as well but that's 5 mins from my highschool.

Was your teammate Joe Brockington?

The link to Yogey's was a more suitable fit than Hersey Park.

My high school had a tight end that had interest from MAC programs. He ended up walking on at Michigan.

And we played against a quarterback that had scholarship offers from Michigan State and Stanford. Don't see why. My old high school played in the weakest conference in America. I remember attending the spring game a couple of years and thinking Jimmy Clausen would've looked like Michael Vick in our conference, and Jimmy Clausen is SLOW.

We did make the state finals at Ford Field in 2007. The game immediately after ours featured Detroit Country Day and Jonas Gray, so we stayed for the first half. Even then, Jonas was enormous.

Any idea what he's up to now? He gave the league a shot didn't he?

Last I heard is that he owns a dog kennel with Tom Zbikowski. I think it's made up of German Shepards. He was invited to Bills training camp after going undrafted. Ultimately, he didn't make the team but he got a coaching position for a prominent AAAA high school in my area, Harrisburg high school. Bishop McDevitt is in their conference to give you an idea of the competition. He coached there for a few years. I believe from what I last heard is that he's doing the dog kennel thing full-time now though.

Oh that's cool. Small world. Yeah, he's a good guy. It was a lot of fun for me and others in my community to watch him on Saturdays on NBC.

I help with the local varsity football team (same school every member of my immediate family graduated from)...

I usually do the advanced scouting, write up the initial game plans for next weeks games, full scouting reports, so on...

well, usually I am in my full ND gear when I do this because usually I am in my full ND gear when I do just about anything... I work a job that requires me to look presentable so some of my ND gear is very nice... golf shirts, polos, visors that work for such environments...

SO,... one day I am wearing my nicer ND gear while scouting... a group of students in front of me gets all excited during the game... I find this odd but don't give it too much attention... then finally, at halftime while I'm working on first half notes one of the students comes up and asks "Who are you scouting!?! Is it (Name of star player)!?!?"

I am thrown by his excitement but answer with something like, "Well yeah, he's the key guy for you, but we are scouting the entire team... every aspect."

The kids eyes widen and he goes back to his group I can hear him talking to his friends about how Notre Dame must really be down if they are at their school looking at just anybody...

I just smile and go back to work... I'm sure word got back to that "Star Player" that he was looked at by ND... somewhere in the deserts of California there was a kid wondering why he didn't get that letter...

:)

My next door neighbor (who made me a ND fan), was scouted by ND and went to school there, although I don't remember if he was a scholarship player or a preferred walk-on. He was a senior and I was a freshman in my one and only year of playing organized football (I was diagnosed with epilepsy and quit).

I'm sorry you didn't get to play because of the epilepsy :(
