Denard will try but fail in preparing UM for Golson. The problem for our opponents is that no one resembles Golson but himself.

Well played and hopefully true.

The Wildcat takes on a whole new dimension when Riddick lines up in the shotgun and Golson splits wide. They won't ignore him like Clausen was when Weis put Tate at shotgun.

If Golson were 6'2" he would be on everyone's wish list. I am glad he's Irish.

If he was a pro style qb, yes, those extra 2" would be nice. I doubt that it's going to happer him at all in Kelly's spread offense and what brings to the table w/ his running ability. I am too glad that he's Irish!

I just re-watched his most recent highlight video and was blown away all over again. For some reason I keep overlooking this kid and that video keeps bringing me back. It will be so nice to add some real mobility at the QB position. His arm strength and accuracy aren't to shabby either.

Golson a match for Irish Offense
Bob Wienke SBT

1/28/11

Can't post a link as his is from a Ipad app.

Golson won't be playing basketball this season. Will participate in winter conditioning and spirng ball.

When you watch him throw the football, for what Brian Kelly wants to do and what he wants out of his offense there couild not be a better fit between skill set and an offensive scheme than Notre Dame right now, Brian Kelly, and Everett Golson.
Tom Luginbill ESPN

Luginbill thinks ND's offense will offset Golson's lack of height:
I believe because of the shotgun, you're able to maks a lack of overall height by doing some things - moving the launch point, not having a guy play from under center on a consistent basis. And so height doesn't become an issue as much as it used to.

On delivery:
The ball comes out quick. It's decisive. ...

No mention of Golson playing WR in that article to the relief of many here. But I'll bet he's a receiver this year when Riddick becomes a RB in the Wildcat. When Clausen or Rees went to WR in that formation they might as well been wearing a jersey numbered in the 50's. Golson is a bona fide threat in the formation to receive, run, or throw to Ragone who's lined up in a double tight end formation. Lots of possibilities and work for opposing DCs.

Why does the first page say he signed with North Carolina under his offers?

Why does the first page say he signed with North Carolina under his offers?

It says he committed on 2/5/10, not signed. He was a UNC commit up until his switch to ND. The title of the thread now clearly notes he signed at ND: "(Signed ND LOI-EE)"

I like the idea, but I'm not sure I would use a year of eligibility to work in a new wrinkle in the wildcat formation, that's used at the most 10 snaps a game. He would have to be at worst the number 2 guy on the depth chart for that to be considered.

Because the page wasn't updated. The "ND Signed LOI-EE" should be corrected as well. EEs don't sign LOIs as we have discussed in other threads they enroll. Golson is an ND student.

I can't see Golson seeing the field this year.

A. He's pretty skinny for a quarterback. Unless he packs on 15 pounds of solid muscle (can't rule that out) than he's not playing.

B. It would be unwise to have him see the field in a non-quarterback role. There are plenty of other weapons to use besides him.

C. Shouldn't Kelly stagger his eligibility with Hendrix as much as possible? Just doesn't seem like the smart thing to do to have them together.

D. It's fun to think about Golson coming in on wildcat or Tebow-type packages, but I get the feeling it will be all in or nothing this year. Either he's starting or he's not stepping on the field.

Golson looks really good and I wouldn't count him out to start, but the odds are against him. Isn't it better for the long-term health of the program if he sits out?

My guess is he sits out.

However, it depends on how he performs during Spring/summer ball. Maybe he'll do too well to sit out.

In that case, not sitting him would be a very good sign.

Well I actually live down the hall from him but I was at Rolfs on campus with a couple of friends and he came over and started shooting around with us until we got a game going. Even despite his height his raw athleticism was just sick.

Golson will be the perfect decoy for Robinson in preparing for Michigan.

The help would be nice, but Denard is a special talent. Regardless of that, our D improved significantly enough to make up the 4 points we lost by. I have no fear of Michigan this year or the next 2.

If he ever starts, he'll probably throw more passes in a season than Rice threw in his career.

absolutely, i'd expect him to develop into a more efficent form of what Crist was becoming, an effective passer who, if need be can take one to house himself

Golson will draw a lot of comparisons to Rice. They're both from South Carolina, and ridiculously good athletes.

But I don't think the comparisons will come because of throwing the ball, obviously Rice wasn't a huge passer and Golson is much more ahead of the game in that regard coming out of high school.

The comparisons are going to come from Golson being a great leader, a winner, and someone who makes those around him so much better. That's what everyone says about Rice, yeah they were in love with his athletic ability, but it was his smarts, his leadership and all those little things that make a player great which endeared him to his teammates and coaches.

I see a lot of those things in Golson. To me, he just has that "look" to him where you know he's going to be something special. And from watching him play football and hearing about his work in the classroom and off the field, I'd say we are pretty damn lucky right now.

This is what I meant when I said he reminds me of Tony Rice. Clearly they are different types of QB's, but I guess the whole SC thing, and great leadership qualities. Lou Holtz had huge trust in Tony Rice, I would love Coach Kelly and Golson work in the same manner.
