Schuler confirmed he is staying at Rutgers and yes I do believe one QB will transfer, if I had to bet I would say Massa.

I've heard posters say that they wouldn't be surprised if Massa transfered if he found himself way back in the depth chart. What would the chances of him moving to receiver? I don't remember his measurables but it isn't that unheard of to see a QB move to receiver.

If Shaq Evans can't crack the WR rotation, then there is no way in hell Massa does. Notre Dame has many legitimate WR's on the roster.

It is pretty much guaranteed that a team can not have 5 QB's on the roster without 1 transferring. Not sure what that has to do with how many offers we have left.

Currently ND is at the 85 limit. There is wiggle room for 1-2 more guys but technically there are ZERO spots left

What do you mean "wiggle room", without us acting like USC or a school in the SEC

I think the "wiggle room" refers to how many 5th years are granted. Gary Gray will likely get one along w Dever and Smith. At this point, every new schollie that is given will reduce the number of available 5th year opportunities that exist. We must also recognize that decisions on Montana getting renewed and Ruffer gaining a schollie must be factored in. Someone (I believe in this thread) had a link to another site that had a very good spreadsheet on the eligibility that was available by class and position.

number of scholarships left

number of scholarships left

There are 61 returning including Dever,Nunn,Romine,Harrison Smith, Gary Gray and Ruffer.

Add the 23 verbals and there are 84 on board with one slot open. 84+1=85 max

As has been said, after that every new addition means a subtraction from the 5th year men.

If there are any transfers or academic fatalities the 5th year guys could come be invited n back.

We prolly won't hear officially about the 5th years till signing day if I had to guess (If there's no deadline) Staff is prolly waiting to see who they get and then decide who they can keep when they got the numbers crunched a little more.

Looking ahead a bit how interesting is next year going to be in regards to fifth year guys?? From my initial diagnosis I see only 7 or 8 guys leaving from next years senior class if my numbers add up right. 2012 will be interesting as well for the possible 5th years.

There are 63 guys including 5th year players Ragone, Dever, Nuss, Romine, Nwankwo, Gray, and Harrison Smith. Ruffer is not on scholarship.

That is a total of 86

So we drop Ragone and Nwankwo and add Ruffer we're at 62. That allows us 24 signees right??

Let's say we sign both Huggins and Niklas, maybe we drop Romine or Nuss too??

Eitherway Ruffer's gotta be on scholly next year doesn't he??

Ruffer will get a schollie.

I personally rather get a couple new recruits then keep Nuss and Romine.

Not to sound like a jerk, but it just makes the most sense.

OK Ragone is not being dropped with Rudolph gone. That leaves only 1 TE with any experience in Eifert who has a history of injuries.

Romine and Nuss bring depth to the o-line and both may not be back but i don't see how you can justify dropping 2 quality o-lineman.

I'm with ya...I'd hate to be the guy to tell em, but that's prolly how it would go down. Crazy how their football fate hangs on the thread of two high school seniors.

Coach Kelly just confirmed that Ruffer will be back for a fifth year and he will have a scholarship.

Not to be a jerk, but that would be the one I would pull...let's be honest does he need one with the fam's financial stability??? Plus, his playing time went from slim to none with Hendrix and Golson now in the mix

I've noticed several signs of the following already: Kelly is a real human being. He honors his relationships with the players. He took hurt players to certain games when he didn't have to, to give them an affectionate reward. He played certain walk-ons when he could as an award. This is apparently another of his "weaknesses" which endears him to me, and I'll bet it shines out at the parents during recruiting. It probably layers over to the rest of the staff too. Diaco et al can "turn" commitments at the twelfth hour only by being authentic and trustworthy --- just like the head coach. Thus, Kelly was going to honor Nathaniel if he possibly could.

i'm sure he's being loyal, however, i as an innocent bystander without the same relationships he has formed would do it differently. Now, if i had formed those relationships like Coach Kelly has I too would prolly be more inclined to reward.

Like they say though business is business.

Except for Harrison and Ruffer.

But those two are safe.

This fellow is simply forgetting Gary Gray and Taylor Dever. No one dumps good starters.
The nail-biters for the staff have to be, first, Romine, rated as our best back-up lineman [along with Watt], and Nuss, our most versatile back-up lineman [along with Watt]. Ragone has to be the most vulnerable very good contributor on the fence, as his position is well-manned even without Rudolph. I would not think that the staff can keep any of the other guys, good as they are. I'll be controversial and say that Ragone goes with our congratulations, despite his great upside still being unfullfilled. Romine and Nuss are real issues---good back-up O-linemen.
