ESPN UA day 2 practice blog:

Rome looking good 1:58 p.m. ET -- Jay Rome looks physical in blocking drills and then started to display his soft hands in sideline pass drills. Ben Koyack also looked good moving his feet in the blocking drills

ESPN has said much of the same.

AC has been a big disapointment to this point.

Yea saw that. Those are more of warm up drills, not that I'm making excuses for him. ESPN, Rivals, and ISD have raved about how amazing Amir has looked as a reciever thus far in Orlando. One of the best down there among a group of pretty stout WRs.

Great news that Ben got that 5th star back. I never knew why he lost it after reading about him and watching film. He did do a great job in the UA game. I guess their biggest concern was him not being able to block well playing tight end since he was used mainly as a WR in high school. He proved them wrong!! Nice how Tuitt got his 5th as well! Looking like a great finish to this roller coaster recruiting year!

There was some extended special about recruiting on Sunday night after our local news in Houston that included a special interest piece on football in PA and specifically Koyack. Anyone else see this? Looked like a national show.....looks like a beast.

Everything I've seen on Koyack wows me for the combination of size, speed, and smooth athleticism. No fears about the continuance of Tight End U. If we didn't have Welch backing up, and maybe challenging Eifert, Koyack would make the field easily this year.

He kind of reminds me of Rudolf coming out of high school. I am no analyst or anything, but they are both tall, strong, and can run like a receiver. Both can also put their head down and block like crazy too. He really excites me, can't wait to see him on the field, whenever he gets there.

IMO the criteria is so subjective....i would met somewhere in the middle of the tw0- and then throw in ESPN ranking. Bottom line is he is a great fit for ND fb and well be a star when all is said and done.

I agree.. I'm not so worried about the subjective ranking and more excited about how his game matches that of Rudolph and other TE's that have made ND Tight End U.. very happy about this pickup and this player who is only about 30 minutes from where I live.. saw him in action, he is an absolute monster

No. Rudolph was a BEAST, ridiculous combination of size, speed, hands, strenght. Koyack is more like Eifert. a big WR that will need to add weight and strength in college.

yeah I guess.. Rudolph was definitely a freak of nature, but I'm not sure Koyack has to be.. I'd like for him to bulk up a little, but that speed and athletic ability will be stupid good when he's matched up against linebackers and possibly defensive ends in dumb defensive schemes ala Orgeon vs. Auburn

What I like about him, similarly to Rudy, is they are both multi sport star athletes. Rudy was a stud basketball player with D1 potential and I believe I remember reading how Ben K. is a stud in track. Both of these guys are competitors and I think that this gets overlooked sometimes in this new age we live that if you want to make it big you have to focus 100% on one sport. I couldn't disagree more. These guys want to compete and be the best in everything they do and I love it!!

On a side note, I also remember reading about questions the "experts" had in regards to his blocking ability. Practice reports from the Under Armour game had several good reports on his ability to block which is promising and shows that he is willing to improve.

Agreed eitherway the kid's a stud and we're better because, we got em.

How long do you think it will take for Koyack to be in our starting lineup??

To be honest, I would be very happy with Eiffert, Golic, and Welch holding down this position while Koyack sits out a year putting some muscle on that promising frame of his. If Eiffert has a good year, he may be even inclined to test the NFL waters, so it will be important to preserve Koyack's eligibility while we have the talent and numbers to do so. Just my opinion though.
