This is a real bummer. Tuitt would have easily been playing next year in the rotation.

I understand the whole staying home business, but why did it serioulsy take 7 visits for him to decide GT was where he really wanted to be? Something just doesn't sound right here. I'm not suggesting anything illegal happening, just doesn't make sense to me...

Also, why help push others to ND when you aren't even going to attend? This kinda scares me considerring the fact that he is practicing and playing in another all-star game with other ND recruits..

I'm just baffled...

Graduation rate is not the end all measure of a school's capability. Just because some athletes ultimately don't graduate doesn't mean there isn't a fantastic education waiting for those who want it. Georgia Tech is by all estimates a fantastic education. When ND bashes other schools on things like academics, we look small. Most schools offer great educations that will change lives, but schools can only go so far. The student has to want it. ND does a great job with this, but even we aren't perfect.

While we're all disappointed, Tuitt went about it the right way, took his time, mulled his options. I have no reason to believe GT did anything illegal any more than I do that ND did, so if that's where his heart lies, good for him.

I found this article online:
Stephon Tuitt on switch: ‘I think Tech is where my heart was the whole time’ | AJC College Sports Recruiting

This quote gets me: "I think Tech is where my heart was the whole time."

Why does that quote "get" you?

  • He grew up less than an hour from the GT campus.
  • GT's recruiting coordinator was recruiting him for years.
  • Tuitt been on their campus half a dozen times this years.
  • He's got a teammate or two on GT's team.
  • He's closer to "home" and his comfort zone.

A couple of people have posted that he won't get to play for an NC at GT. About 400 ND football players havent' gotten to play for an NC since ND last won one. GT actually has a more recent NC than ND does. GT has finished in the Top 25 as many times as ND in the past decade adn only 3 times less in the last 20. In the last 20 years ND has won all of 9 more games than GT.

No, GT isn't Notre Dame. But Notre Dame hasn't been Notre Dame for most of the past 15 years, have they?

Tuitt long time relationship with GT was no secret. He took a trip to ND and was wowed. ND caught his eye. Over time the infatuation faded and he went back to where in his words, "my heart was for the whole time."

I'm selfish. I'll miss him. We may still have a great defense. We've got a good start. But Browner was more dominant because Fyr was at the other end.

Having Heimkreiter, Golic, Bradley, Burgemeier, brother Jim, and Restic as a supporting cast in addtion to Fry, didn't hurt either. Neither did having Montana, Ferguson, Heavens, MacAfee, and Huffman on the other side of the ball. We're getting closer. Tuitt would have helped.

I hate losing him but believe we lost him for the right reasons.

Doesn't really scare me. Is he going to get ND kids to GT? I really doubt it. And it sounds like he has only positive things to say about ND. I think that can only help us.

We will do the same with him as we would do without. Good luck (in graduating) according to the rates.

Ah well would have been great to have him suit up next year. There's still time for him to change his mind he is an 18 year old kid but better he's where he'll be happy then him coming to ND and losing a year of eligibility if he transfers because it's not for him.

He's gets added to a sad list of highly rated defensive lineman decommits over the years.

Justin Trattou - Florida 2007
Omar Hunter - Florida 2008
Chris Martin - California 2010
Stephen Tuitt - Georgia Tech 2011

Of all of them Tuitt is the easiest to accept but he will be missed. He could still change his mind, but it's unlikely.

This really hurts...kids the complete package and of all the guys in the big 3 he was the one I wanted the most. Hoping he changes his mind. Don't think there's anybody left out there that could fill this void in this class.

Maybe it's time for Coach D to get over there around 4 am and start cooking some bacon...there's nothing like waking up to the smell of bacon in the morning!!

Sad thing is this guy is gone forever. He said that they will not be accepting any phone calls or in home visits unless they are a GT coach. Wishful thinking but time to move on to the next guy in.

I'm very disappointed that Tuitt won't be joining this super talented recruiting class. We will just have to move on without him. I wish him well. Go Irish!

He will be missed.....OK, I'm over it. Good luck with everything Tuitt, but if you don't want to be Irish, I won't lose any sleep over it. Kid did what was best for him.

From previously posted article: Stephon Tuitt on switch: ‘I think Tech is where my heart was the whole time’ | AJC College Sports Recruiting

The worst part, Tuitt said, was having to call the Notre Dame coaches.

“That was pretty hard,” he said. “[Notre Dame is] a great school and they have great coaches and players and I still believe that. It was a very hard phone call. But I had to do what was best for me and Georgia Tech is the best place for me.”

At least he didn't email it in....

Classy kid. Good luck Stephon.

I'm sad that I won't be able to see you as part of this very special line... but you're a good guy.

Tough loss, softened by Lynch and Williams. He must of really loved the place b/c they will not be competing at a high level.

Sad to hear. But good luck Mr. Tuitt. You had to follow your heart. Just wish it woulda lead you to ND.
