It would come as a complete shock to me if he turns out to be a LB. He better be a great deal more athletic than Carlo if that's the case, because we became a lot better on defense when Smith was put back in the middle. Longo will definitely earn his money if he can turn him into a mlb.

Following recruiting often makes fans too fickle. The current freshman that play sparingly, contribue on special teams, or redshirt are like yesterdays meat for the 17 year old 4 and 5 star players that have yet to step on campus. Shembo, Moore, Spond, Schwenke and Utopo will have something to say about that lineup (and if Teo is still eligible so is KLM, Hafis Williams, Cwynar, McDonald as a redshirt seniors).

Sorry to rain on the parade, I get what you mean, I am as excited as anyone to land the kind of talent we might in the 2011 class. Just do not forget how far behind in development a 17/18 year old true freshman is from a 22/23 year old 5th year (look at us in 2007 for an example).

People tend to forget that there were recruiting classes before this one, full of 4 star talent. It irks me that so many people think all these kids are gonna start freshman/sophomore year.

Thank you very much for this. It really drives me nuts. People tend to forget about other players that are currently on our roster and don't realize a lot of these kids still have a great deal of room to develop. There is one person in particular that really gets caught up in this and it's kind of annoying.

They suffer from the "Grass is always greener" syndrome.

He did play some linebacker, and I saw somewhere that it is claimed he can run a 4.6 40 when healthy (which is like never). Here is a link with his linebacker bio. There are more talking about linebacker.

I sure hope I'm wrong. If we continue to recruit well along the d line and olb the mlb is the only place where depth will be needed.

Spond should help next year along with Moore and Grace learning the ropes.

My biggest question is how/why he's projected at MLB if his 40 time is that slow. Just really doesn't seem to make much sense to me when people talk about his "range" unless he is going to be purely a run stopper bowling type (aka a bigger version of Carlo).

Yep, I am a bit confused with where he will play. His forty time is really slow.

The one thing I will say is if he has a good "20" time or otherwise has good acceleration but just lacks top end speed that is kinda a non-factor playing in the run-stopper MLB mold. All you really have to be able to do is close/react quickly and be physical.

Brandon Spikes ran like a 5.0 forty at the combine, but he was real player in College.

Yeah, he was also listed at 4.76 coming out of highschool which is significantly faster than Scarlett's listing, but I know what you mean. You don't have to be fast to play ILB in a 3-4 at a high level and it really all comes down to your instincts, reaction time, short distance closing time, etc. I can understand why they think he could work in that position, I was just surprised to see a time quite that slow.

Also, after some solid conditioning with Longo I'm sure Scarlett's 40 would improve.

He also could have ran the 40 time listed before his knee was fully healed from his injury.

40 times are for AL Davis... This kid can play, and I trust the coaching staff already knows where they can put him, otherwise why even try..

Wish we coulda had him. But he took his time, did it the right way, and chose where he felt was best. Good luck Mr. Scarlett

He suffered a broken tibia as a sophomore and a torn anterior cruciate ligament as a junior. This past season, he had 31 tackles in the first two games before breaking his collarbone in the team's third game. He underwent surgery and returned for one quarter in the playoffs but aggravated the injury and left the game.

Tough luck with injuries. Best wishes for a healthy college career. With a name like Brennan he should have been Irish.

Wish him all the best. Hope he can stay healthy. They are going to have a great d-line in a couple years.
