The only thing that scares me about Les Miles to Michigan would be defensive stars (aka Tuitt) following him there.

What about a guy like Corwin Brown. When he was here there were a few people that said he could be good head coach. Does anyone think they would reach out to him?

Dave Brandon has expressly stated that he is looking for a guy with HC experience; on that basis, I think that disqualifies CB.

Ron English is a more viable UM candidate than Brown at this point in their careers. But English has only been a HC for 2 years. Too little. And his 2-22 career record at EMU doesn't mirror the rise of coaches like Meyer, Kelly, Peterson, or Patterson.

K don't laugh here. I live in southwest Michigan. I was just watching the local news. The late night sports guy said he has a 'close friend' who works high up in the U of M sports program and just got a text saying a U of M plane w/ sports officials has just recently landed in Baton Rouge (probably spelled wrong). He reported it at the end of the broadcast as breaking news. FWIW. I believe also Miles has a Tue speaking commitment in Texas.

Was it George Lessens? Lee VanAmeyde?

I don't see Miles leaving. He's going to have a contender next season, can recruit in his back yard, and does not have the project of rebuilding a broken team with an impatient fan base. UM's cupboards are bare as can be, arguably worse then ours post Ty.

UM is going to have to get an up and comer...and hope it works out. There aren't too many hot name's out there. Kyle Whittingham comes to mind. But the UM guard wants to return too "smash mouth" football. That type of football is not going to win a title any time soon with all these spread type offenses taking hold.

The situation at Michigan requires a young coach who is willing to rebuild the program, not a premier coach who is now with a NC contender. You can't expect the man at the top to trudge on down into a hell hole to try to fix it.

Bear Bryant did that at Kentucky, A&M, and Alabama. He left success each time for another hell hole. He took Maryland to a Southern Conference before heading to UK and taking them to an SEC Title and 5 Top 20 finishes in 8 years. Then he headed to TX and took A&M to a SWC title and a #5 Final Ranking. Then he went to Tuscaloosa where The Tide had won 4 games in the past 3 years. He took them to a Top 10 Final Ranking within 2 years and an NC in 4 years.

Asked why he left A&M for Bama, he simply replied, "Momma called!" He was going home.

Lou Holtz made a career of rebuilding broken programs then moving on to a new challenge.

If he's meeting with Michigan it's a done deal.

LSU better start looking for their possible replacements.

I hope he knows how to play in the snow and cold! Ann Arbor doesn't see much lake effect like we do, but it is colder than a well diggers toe come october.

The longer this drags out, whether they land Miles or not, the better it is everyone except scUM because it's getting closer and closer to signing day. It would make it more difficult for scUM to close the gap on signing 'big time' recruits for this year.

Let's see: do I want to coach a team at a place where I can recruit 50 prospects a year and cut the ones who don't make it, accept morons from junior "colleges" to fill an unexpected hole in my team, eliminate the nuisance of going to class for my "student athletes," offer help and support to recruit's families and jobs for them when needed, work at a place where the culture is "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'" and where I have a team which looks like it might challenge for the NC next year, OR do I want to step into the mess in Michigan where not one of these advantages is available?
mmmmmmmmmmmm, I think I will go to Michigan and freeze my *** off.

Don't be so quick to discount this possibility. The rumblings I'm starting to hear are that as long as Michigan offers him something in the vicinity of $5 mil a year (he's currently making $3.75) he will go there. Now these rumblings can't be backed up at all, but there are a couple of reasons why Michigan is very attractive to him:

For one, people in Louisiana are total jerks to Miles even when he wins 10 games a year against a tough schedule. He is perpetually on the hot seat.

Two, Michigan is still a premier job and being a "Michigan Man" following the disaster that was Rich Rod he will have a ton of job security. As long as he posts good seasons with occasional wins over ND, MSU and OSU he'll be more solid than he ever would be at LSU.

Three, the Michigan job probably won't be open again for a long time after this go around and who knows how much longer his tenure can run in Baton Rouge.

Even though he makes 3.75 mill at LSU his contract states that he must make atleast 1000 dollars more than any coach in the conference so if he leaves I don't think it will be about the money...basically when saban gets a raise (or chizik should he win tonight) Les gets a raise.

Round of applause for his agent!!!

at this point it almost seems like Michigan will take anyone who WANTS the job. I think that is the tough sell.

Rodriguez recruited players to fit HIS system. Whoever they bring in is going to have to win with those type of players, he is going to have a rough time recruiting because it's already a little late in the game.

Whoever takes it will be a GOD if they can turn that thing around.

If Michigan gets Les Miles and John Chavis follows him up to Ann Arbor as his defensive coordinator, they will have that program turned around quickly. Chavis is a good DC and they will be able to recruit solid to elite talent. Les Miles and crew would be a very nice pick-up for Michigan. Miles takes a lot of slack for his clock management blunders but he wins 8+ games every year in the SEC. He beat Alabama and Florida this year and was a few plays away from beating 13-0 Auburn.

If Michigan wants to hire Miles, then they need to pull the trigger and get him. Now.

Their already abysmal recruiting class is suffering, and if they don't hire somebody soon it could be a nightmare.

My thoughts exactly!!!

Then again I really don't see him being the man for the job in Michigan so I hope he ends up there!!!

Great point! Man we would be fuming if ND handled it like this last year!!!

How is that true? Saban makes $5.1 Mil a year and Les makes $3.75 mil. So Les is already making far less than Saban. Maybe I am misunderstanding something?

Football Bowl Subdivision coaches salaries for 2010 - USATODAY.com

One thing to note about the Miles speculation, is that he will ask for a raise in order to leave LSU. Which would at least put him at $4m. Add that to the $2.5 mil that they would have to pay for DickRod's buyout, that means that the option of Les Miles would cost AT A MINIMUM.... $6.5 Million dollars for the first year. Keep in mind, that is a bare minimum to get him in the door, the higher they pay Les, the more that cost goes up (along with their risk).

Does scUM even have the cache for this kind of transaction?

It was reported by a college analyst on ESPN last year that this was the case for Les' contract. idk how they pull the strings, but that's what they said. I found it odd as well, but the extension was signed after LSU won it all so who knows how crazy they were getting. If we won it i'm sure we'd be doing some loopy stuff as well.

If ESPN said that last year, they would have been wrong when they said it as well. Maybe the contract reads that he gets a raise when other coaches get a raise, but the $1000 higher than the highest coach doesn't hold weight becuase he isnt the highest paid coach in the SEC. Saban is.

but it is EsPN afterall, they have never been too good at math. lol...

I live in Louisiana, and this is totally true.

Plus, even though you do have big recruiting advantages in Louisiana, the SEC West is beyond brutal. Mississippi State -- the 5th best of 6 teams -- might win the Big Ten... And there's a great chance that once the post-bowl games polls come out, 5 of the top 15 will be SEC West teams.

Miles is not coming to UM. Bank it.

Any truth to the rumor UM has applied for a TARP (talk about Tarnished Assets ...) loan and retained Timothy Geithner as a special search consultant?

I'm not sure the term "bank it" has the catchet it did just 3 years ago.

I heard on a local sports talk show on the way home that a U of M plane was seen in San Diego area and that LSU has posssibly offered Les Miles a contract extension worth more money. I would almost "bank on" Brady Hoke being the next coach. I live in Michigan by the way. Hate UM, all trees lean toward Ann Arbor because it sucks.

They'll offer, but he is an idiot if he does take it. LSU is jacked for next year. Can't oversign in the Big10, this would be a retirement job and the worse thing to happen to UM.
