Fwiw, I think Bruce is Councell's uncle if I remember correctly, so maybe he just has advanced info.

Hopefully it's advanced information, because right now everyone still has him as a 3*. Would make me feel better about the class if he got upgraded, and would help us in the recruiting rankings, which might just help with some of the kids left on the board.

This kid is the best prospect we have in terms of:

talent/performance on field>recruiting rankings

I still can't believe this kid is a 3-star! Is there a better 3-star prospect out there?

With all due respect, I could give a sh!t about stars and actually like it when our guys aren't super-hyped. There are plenty of examples of 2* and 3* and no star kids who go one to be incredible players. Would Toby Gerhart have been better if he was a 5* instead of a 3*? Would Chris Johnson have been faster if he was a 5* instead of a 0*? Would Clay Matthews be more of an all-world linebacker if he was a 5* instead of a 0*?

While I love having a recruiting class where I can ooo and ahhhh at the stars... rarely does that translate directly into wins. See FSU, Miami and Notre Dame over the past couple years versus Wisconsin, Boise State and Oregon. I love that these coaches seem to be getting players to fit their schemes who also have a lot of athletic ability that they can mold into All-Americans.

With regards to Councell, as I have said from the beginning he is totally underrated as a 3* and plays like a 4* right now. With his raw abilities he could be a 5* caliber contributor if his development goes right in college.

Indeed looks like he got some stars from Rivals, never saw that. He was a 0* on Scout and I don't think ESPN ranked guys back then.

George Atkinson is still a 3* in some services (ESPN). He may be the best 3* in the country.

This is exactly what Coach Mike Elston said when he was in Asheville a couple of weeks ago. The Shrine Bowl showed how under rated he has been. After watching him for a week and the game a national recruiting analyst ranked him #5 out of the top 15 players which were picked out of the 88 top HS players of SC/NC @ the bowl. Another analyst ranked him #8 out of the top 10 so his star is rising.

I don't worry about the rankings so much. I mean some I do like Te'o we knew he was a slam dunk. Obviously players like Floyd and Rudolph as well. We want players who want to win and want to be here at Notre Dame. I want guys with high motors and are willing to learn and get better. Rankings are irrelevant with some exceptions.

wwhat # are Councell and Golson

Sorry if that was directed towards me while you were watching. I went to mass (being a good Catholic prayed for a Miami *** kicking).

Golson was 7 i think but I wasn't sure about Councell. I heard his name one, but they really didn't talk too much about him while I was watching.

Same I thought I might catch the end of the game but I didn't anticipate my pastor giving a 30 min homily.

just wondering, are #7 and #66 open at ND? I know Golson wore #5 so that will be open with Allen graduating, but idk about Councell. just want to know if i should buy an old Clausen jersey before the price skyrockets ;)

Also, I'm pretty sure Chris Watt is #66

OT: TJ has been injured. Before the injury he was looking extremely good. He was hampered down the stretch but still showed flashes of brilliance (speed, hands, body control). In my opinion, he is right on track for big things and will likely start again next season. Remember that Kelly intends to use a lot of WRs.

Number 66

Number 66

A lucky number is worn by Chris Watt on offense----
but, Ben Councell can wear it on Defense if he wants to.
That will make two 1st class guys wearing old 66.

You are correct he could use the #66 on the defensive side of the ball. Would be strange seeing an OLB wearing #66 covering a TE down the field.
