Reports are swirling today that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh is not interested in heading to Ann Arbor to take over for Rich Rodriguez at Michigan. Apparently it will be the NFL or staying at Stanford for Harbaugh, which leaves Michigan in an unenviable position.
With guys like Will Muschamp and Randy Edsall off the coaching board, the Wolverines likely have just one place to turn in their search (this is all assuming Rodriguez is fired later today, as almost everyone thinks he will be). That one place would be current San Diego State coach Brady Hoke.
Hoke has worked wonders with the Aztecs and has stated openly that the only job he’d leave SDSU for would be Michigan. Hoke was an assistant in Ann Arbor under Lloyd Carr from 1995-2002.
Hoke is from Dayton, Ohio and played at Ball State. So he knows the Midwest inside and out. His time at Michigan earned him his first head coaching job at his alma mater, where he lead the Cardinals to a 12-1 record in his sixth year (in 2008). He left for San Diego State after that and has led a remarkable turnaround there. After a 4-8 season last year, the Aztecs went 9-4 this year, including an impressive win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.
This year the Aztecs also had two wins ripped from them by horrible replay decisions at Missouri and BYU. And they played TCU tougher than anyone other than Wisconsin.
If Michigan came calling, Hoke would leave San Diego State. Everyone knows it, and now that Harbaugh is seemingly out of the running, he Hoke should be the first and only call the Wolverines make.
You never know with these coaches, but I'd be really skeptical if I was a Michigan fan.
Two good coaching seasons out of eight years at Ball State and SDSU?
How many Irish fans would be okay with this hire if it was ND? Is it fine because Rich Rod is gone?
Early RUMORS are that Rich Rod could end up an Clemson. Dabo is on the chop block already and with big coaches swirling around, many reporters think RR could fill in.
I personally would love to see Rich Rod at Pittsburgh. The backyard rivalry between WVU and Pitt would hit another level.
He had Ball State 1 game from a BCS berth a few years ago and has done great things at SDSU, however i dont think he's the guy, in my mind he needs one more stop (ie what Cinci was for BK) before he gets this. Even if your son drives the old sadan well, idk if you give him the keys to the Ferrari just yet
I think Hoke would be an excellent hire. San Diego State played a tough game against TCU and only lost by 5. They won 9 games this season. Idk if your guys' memories are short but SDS was dead last, worst team in the country 2 years ago. Remember 2008? When ND almost lost to them in the 2008 opener. yeah...
I'm a little worried now.
You mean the 6-6 team that lost to Syracuse, shut out at Boston College and destroyed by USC????
I think he'd be a great hire for Michigan. Believe it or not, I want Michigan to be great again. College Football is better when Notre Dame and Michigan are elite teams. I want that rivalry to decide National Championships again.
Rich rod is still at scUM. Detroit free press and detroit fox 2 jumped the gun.
Do you have a link? I can't find that.
Earlier Tuesday, FOX 2 News in Detroit reported that Brandon would fire Rodriguez in that meeting./QUOTE]
It sounds like they spilled the beans.
