This link was posted by the Polish Irishman in Councell's thread, but I figured I'd add it here since it mentions Golson:

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Shrine Bowl notes: Cold rules first day

Interesting how they said that Golson looks more like 5'10" than his listed height of 6'. Maybe he'll grow a few inches between now and when he steps on campus. Glad to hear he's tearing it up in practice. I'm sure he's glad that Clowney is on his team for this game. That guy is a beast!

Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- There is no doubt that Notre Dame has found a gem in quarterback Everett Golson (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and the talented signal caller has been showing observers why during practice for the 74th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas this week.

Notre Dame quarterback commit Everett Golson has been the best signal caller through three days of practice for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. If you go strictly on the proverbial eyeball test, Golson isn’t going to wow you. He’s a shade under 6-feet tall. He’s skinny. He doesn’t look like much. But when you watch him play the game- the feel he has for the game, his quick release, his footwork- you understand why he’s a great fit for what Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish on offense.

This week, Golson has distanced himself from Tennessee commit Justin Worley (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern), a 6-foot-5 pocket passer that does have all of the measurables., as the best signal caller on the South Carolina squad and probably has had more wow moments than North Carolina commit Marquise Williams (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) if you are talking about all quarterbacks that are expected to play in Saturday’s game.

Golson threw for a state record 126 touchdown passes as a four-year starter for his high school team. He led Myrtle Beach to two state championships in football and a state title in basketball (he’s also a standout on the hardwood and plans to play both sports in South Bend).

Golson and Williams were on track to be teammates at UNC. Golson was one of the first commitments for the Tar Heels, but elected to look around toward the end of his senior year because of the NCAA Investigation into the program. He took an official visit to South Bend on the weekend of Nov. 12 and committed to the Fighting Irish on Dec. 2, backing out of a long-time pledge to the Heels.

His footwork and release are advanced and he has outstanding arm strength. He’s not 100 percent with his accuracy. At times, the trajectory of the balls he throws is too low and it’s not always a tight spiral, but for the most part he hits receivers in the hands.

Golson has done an excellent job thus far this week developing chemistry with the receivers on the squad. Wednesday, he was putting in extra work with South Carolina receiver commit Shamier Jeffery and the pair appear to be on the same page.

Deal. If you change it to something that will not jinx any current or to-be players I will wire you 10mil. It may be too late to save Golson, but hopefully no one else will end up with torn ligaments.

Jadeveon Clowney leads pack of stars at Shrine Game - ESPN

The quarterback who had the best day was South Carolina's Golson. The Notre Dame commit was 9-of-15 for 79 yards with one touchdown. While his stats are not eye popping, he was the most consistent QB out there. He is very athletic and displayed his ability under pressure to run and create second chances. He showed the ability to quickly get the ball out of his hands and flashed good zip on the ball like with his touchdown pass to Adams. The thing with Golson is he has the tools, but he also displayed that he can be erratic with his accuracy at times and missed some throws he could have made.

Seems to be the knock on Golson is that he isn't always accurate. Along with his height.

Looking at the report as a half-full glass, it seems to me that he's exactly the guy Kelly's looking for: mobility, quick delivery, zip on the ball. Kelly will coach him up on what he'll need to be a great college QB. Golson made a good choice to bring himself and his slightly unpolished skills to the great QB polisher.

I just watched the highlight film of Golson and this kid will be great if he is a hard worker. He can make all the throws and he looks comfortable in the pocket as well as out of the pocket. He keeps his eyes looking down field and runs only if he has too. On the film they had the game against the #1 player in the country Clowney and he doesn't get close to Golson. The biggest reason I am sold on Golson is , he is a proven winner 2 football titles and 1 basketball title against good competition. You can't teach that!

To be honest, I wish he'd run a little more. On numerous plays, it looked like he had ample room in front him, but he instead forced throws into some tight spaces (though he got it accurately to his receivers).

to those who say he needs work, you gotta remember BK turned an unranked Tony Pike into and NFL Draft pick

And then proceeded to keep the offense rolling without a hitch when Pike went down and he had to adapt on the fly to using an unranked 3* dual threat QB with no experience. I like our chances with Golson, Hendrix, or whoever has the capabilities and time to learn the offense.

So let me get this straight...

Golson enrolls in January and cannot join the bball (because the season already started with a full roster? or for some other reason I have not heard yet).

He then goes through spring practice, goes home in May, and is back in June with the rest of the team to prepare for fall practice in August.

After next season concludes with a bowl game right around now (or later I hope), the basketball team plans on keeping a spot open for him so he can join without any practice for the start of the conference schedule in January 2012?

If this is indeed the true timeline, unless he played AAU (which according to Scout he did not) the last sanctioned basketball game he played in would have been around February 2010. Almost two years prior to lacing up at ND. Do you guys agree if he gets serious playing time this fall he will not consider stepping on the court?

^dont expect him to ever see significant playing time (if he plays at all) Playing basketball was just another tool used by BK to lure him in. If Golson is given the starting QB slot (or used in a wildcat formation) and sees time in football, he wont play basketball
