Honestly it is some sort of minor violation, but it's got to be tough for these NCAA "student Athletes." I mean Pyror goes to a shop to get a tat and the guy is probably like" you are Terrell Pryor, no charge on the house." It's tough for a poor College student to turn that down.

No excuses. The ban shouldn't be 5 games. It should be life time ban. With all the incidents lately surrounding student athletes there are absolutely no excuses. Selling conference championship rings is a disrespect to your school, the NCAA, and the team you won it with. If they want to make money, ban them from college football for life which would force them to enter the draft. If you get drafted low or not at all then you should have thought about that before doing something this stupid. That's why I am happy it takes more than just athletic skills to attend ND and be a student athlete.

1st 5 games

Akron
Toledo
@Miami Fl
Colorado
Mich State

They imposed a punishment that would have the least effect on the program. Mich St being the only questionable game on that list.

I disagree going to Miami will not be easy by any means.

I was actually thinking the exact opposite. Other than getting tatoos for autographs these kids have every right to sell their rings, clothes or what ever they else they own. I also would like to see how this would play out in a federal court(which it would never get to). Also, you say if they get drafted they will go without penalty. You're wrong! This will cost they kids money far exceeding the money they received for rightfully selling their things. It will be the first question these kids hve to answer when meeting with NFL teams. By the way I love your "Holier than Thou" attitude, pure class...

Ya I overlooked that. Was thinking Miami OH.

I must say I felt bad for these kids at 1st but selling your Big10 championship ring!!! Unforgivable and should be expelled.

That's how the NCAA rolls though. They never want to come down hard on big time programs. Otherwise they would have really laid down the hammer on USC. There is zero reason why these players should be allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl.

This makes me so happy though.

I don't understand how these suspensions are not immediate? That makes zero sense & happens no where else except the NCAA

Are you crazy OSU would never suspend them for a marque BCS bowl game, on national TV, against the SEC and in a hot bed recruiting area.

Yea I know right ...head scratcher... trying ever to deduce logic from the NCAA is normally an exercise in futility.

During the presser the OSU AD said he supported increasing the living stipend to things like "entertainment" i could see that getting out of hand

It is a rule for bowl games and national championships that they can delay the suspension. Stupid. Anyhow I livein cbus and it is great to hear that the sky is falling. The worst is that thy blame the ncaa on all the radio shows and are saying the rules are unclear. I love osu fans.

The question is just how many of them go pro now. I think Pryor will seriously reconsider staying for next year, he won't get any help towards his draft status for playing half a season. If he goes lights out he might take off.

Big hit for Ohio St. and the Big Ten.

My thoughts exactly! WTF is going on! The NCAA protects the Sec player but punishes the big10 player??? It is becoming more and more biased by the week!

part of me wants to joyfully pile on this like I would have a year ago...but its hard to do it in light of what we've seen the press and haters do to us lately.

Its an infraction, albeit minor. Nobody bought these guys or their family a house, a car, or paid them money...they traded things they themselves had a hand in making "valuable"...so its somewhat more palatable than Realestate Reggie. Put it this way...apparently the NCAA uses relativistic logic on these...a sliding scale of severity if you will. So relative to other infractions, this one is low-end in terms of $ and the infraction itself.

However, from a rules perspective, its an infraction. These guys knew the rules when they signed on, and they know the drill. Go out and do great things, make the NCAA and OSU a bunch of money, and you get an education in return, but none of the immediate financial benefit. If ya can't deal with the rules, don't participate. If you want to be a voice for change, go for it, but you must abide by the rules as you are attempting to change them. (kinda funny, ironic, and hypocritical though...if they watch the news, they know NOBODY works that way...you don't like immigration laws..ehh, ignore 'em...)

that said, 3-5 games seems ok.

i remember Hughes got into a fight against USC and was able to play in the Hawaii Bowl but got suspended for the 1 st half of the 1st game the next season, so its not unheard of, but idc about OSU

The difference being proof of the players involvement or knowledge of course.

I'm sorry but I take huge issue with these kids selling championship rings & as well as other awards. There are 1000's of kids in the Big 10 who would glady treat those prizes with the dignity, repect & pride that goes along with such a reward.

College athletes are supposed to be measured not only by their actions on the field, but in the classroom and by their personal conduct.

I think these guys derserve to be punished but the ncaa has go to set some rules for how they punish players because they can't keep making up rules as they go. The ncaa is getting ridiculous.

Are we clean? If Notre Dame is clean then we know what we are up against. This rule bending and cheating is bull$%#@. If Notre Dame is as clean as we think it is then I am more of a supporter today than at any other time in my 40 years of following the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. In the past Notre Dame had its issues (Leahey years) but since the time of the modern game Notre Dame has played it clean to my knowledge. What are you to do- and now we know that academic responsibility is not the only reason young men choose not to play football at Notre Dame. If there is a thread of decency in the NCAA they should bury these hypocritical schools. Are we clean-again I ask this and if we are to %$#@ with these blackeye unethical other schools. Clean it up NCAA or you have no b@##$.
