I'm a year or two past freaking out on individual recruits. They want to take the easy way out and make some cash, let them go. Watching Kelly and Co. turn around the season the past few games with Weis's guys is enough to not make me worry. Sure, we all hate to lose top ranked guys, but cry about it now? No.

Well said...

This happens and we might as well get used to it. The H.S. season is over the coaches are all over every decent recruit like flies on $hit and even committed recruits often figure..."what harm could it be to look?"

Notre Dame has sent in two pretty damn fine gun slingers to settle the townsfolk down. Alford might be our best recruiter, remember how he landed Nix last year? And Elston has been pretty impressive so far this year.

Stephon (as far as I have read) MIGHT take an OV to Auburn. Elston and Alford know very well what the Auburn line will be and they can reinforce what Tuitt really already knows...Notre Dame is the place for him. Then he may or may not take a look at Auburn.

If he is an ND type of guy, he says thanks to the folks at Auburn and come NSD faxes his LOI to the place he fell in love with at the beginning. If he flips (and I really doubt that he does) then he wasn't an ND guy and he might as well go where he feels most comfortable.

Could not agree more with your post. Well said.

I really hope we keep this kid. We desperately need him. Whatever happens in the end though we will still be alright. Having Tuitt sign on NSD is a very big thing, especially after the loss of Lynch. I have learned that we all have to be level headed until NSD and not get too down or low when a guy commits or otherwise. We want guys that want to play for Notre Dame. I'm hoping that Tuitt is still that guy and I think he is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If we lose Tuitt this class takes a big hit. Two months ago we had one of the best DL recruiting classes in the country, if Tuitt leaves it will be a big weakness for the class.

Someone needs to visit him today and lock him up.

I really agree with you and this year looked so promising along that DL with both Lynch and Tuitt at one point. This is why we cannot allow ourselves to get too emotionally involved till the very end because anything is possible till NSD. I agree that Tuitt is an absolute must keep because he really is arguably the best Defensive guy we have in this class.

Who enjoys all the recruiting stuff?? NOT ME!!!!! It is a stomach churning process that is filled with misery until February. Then it starts all over. I don't think ANYONE enjoys this, coaches, fans, parents or the recruits themselves!!!

Let's just hope we keep him, BUT if we don't quite red flag on Coach Kelly and the staff's first full year of recruiting with all the decommitments. Would really make you wonder if the guys are putting in their time in season.

Don't get me wrong I know you have to do the job on the field too during the year, but you still got to make your rounds throughout as well.

I think lately we have definently seen an increase with in home visits from all the coaching staff. I think when it is all said and done we will have a solid top 10-15 recruiting class possibly even top 5-10.

I don't believe the decommits have much to do w/ our staff....it's the fact that KIDS are making these decisions, and they change their mind, A LOT. It happens everywhere, not just ND.

Very true, but the more that you stay in a kid's ear I think that pays huge dividends in the end if it comes down to a few schools. I hear a lot of recruits say in the end that "I had a great relationship with this coach" and relationships are built with conversations, it can't be hard to drop a line in an email just show your interested and you care about the kid.

Recruiting is about relationships with the player and their family and hopefully we've done well enough in that regard with tuitt to land him.

I know it's not FSU, but does Gene have any insite on him?

Not likely. As far as I know, Tuitt had no interest in FSU, so Gene wouldn't care. He did say we're gonna kick Miami's ***. It's pretty bad when the UM fans down here even think ND will win.

This my feeling also, plus the fact that they research and find that they will have to be more responsible to academics.

Lets keep our poise on this matter my friends, let be what will be-I have no doubt he has been recruited properly and enthusiastically by Notre Dame. You can do no more-it is what it is. If he chooses Auburn (I think he will) you have more proof of what Notre Dame is up against. I'm on record with my 2 cents worth. No more negative comments when he chooses elsewhere.

Obviously Auburn's money offer might just be to much to pass up.

Agreed, I want some info on how the in house visit went from the coaches today before I jump to any conclusions.

haha, this is totally right. Pretty much everyone is telling us about their "gut feeling", but there is no facts out there to decifer. I'm taking the kid on his word. I know if I was 18 and committed to ND, I would still take my visits too. I would end up at ND too, just like I hope Tuitt will.

Yeah, it's also important to remember that he already took a visit to Auburn before committing to ND in the first place. I don't know if that is a good sign or not. I guess we'll just have to let it all play out... and see how much money they offer him.

And I'll ask again... is there still no info on the Alford visit?

Auburn football must seem pretty sweet now. It's going to be hard for a kid from the south to pass that up when he knows Notre Dame is buried in snow. Still, if he values education then we should still win out.

i dont get it.

Auburn, poor academics, under investigation, want him as an OT. Hopefully it reaffirms his commitment but whatever. I'll just avoid the board if he decommits so i cant read the inevitable bashing of Tuitt

If he does decide to go to another school, let's all remain adults in here. I believe that he has handled everything with as much class as possible so far.

I want him at ND and believe he will see the light of a great education at a great football school called NOTRE DAME!!!

What I've heard locally is that 3 assistants visited him and they're working hard on keeping him.
Tuitt is a MUST keep for this class. Hey I understand these are 17 and 18 year old kids, but it's 4 important years of their life. I wonder how much the staff keeps up with their verbal commits...even with a phone call as simple as how is your senior year going or how is your family doing.
