You guys are not understanding the point I am trying to make. BK of course is not an NFL candidate. Not even close. But even the mere mention of his name connected to a NFL job can get people riled up, as evidenced by this thread. If you are BK's agent, why not place a well-timed leak in an attempt to potentially get you and your client more money? That's all I am saying. There is no argument to be had here unless you can prove to me it didn't originate from BK's camp. Who else would put a rumor like that out there given that he is not an NFL caliber coach (at least not yet)? Remember, as much as BK proclaims his love for ND, it is still a business.

Because there is no way in hell you have negotiating leverage after a 7-5 season with the death of a student. Your hypothetical scenario where a guy coming off a 7-5 season... where many people in the media have called for his head... would sit down and try to negotiate a pay raise is simply nonsensical.

You've got it very backwards right now. No one here should be having to "prove" anything... the burden of proof is on you to present evidence or logic that what you're saying happened did actually happen. To this point you have provided literally no evidence and spotty logic at best. Again, no offense intended here, just trying to call a spade a spade.

Leaving for the NFL is his leverage! His name is out there now whether you like it or not. Clayton says he is an NFL candidate, whether you believe him or not is up to you. Throw his record and the death out the window because BK leaving would be a huge blow to this program, even at 7-5. I would let him leave, but Jack may not see it the same way. Again, this is all hypothetical. Do I think BK is leaving or is really a candidate? No. I am just stating how I think BK's name came out of Clayton's mouth. I haven't seen the actual clip of the pony tailed one. Did he offer it as his opinion or was he quoting sources? Big difference here.

Per Kelly today:
“Usually at this time, I usually have to begin by saying I’m not interested in any other jobs. I love the job I have here at the University of Notre Dame. The good part about it and the bad part about it is that when you’re 7-5, you don’t have to worry about those things. You just worry about where you are and be thankful that you got one year in and still have got a couple years left.”

“For me, it’s been an incredible experience. I think I said it then, it was a dream come true. I think what I can tell you now is that there’s no job like being the head football coach at the University of Notre Dame."

“It certainly was, for me, a great experience. Some highs, some lows, but it’s what I thought it would be and that is the ability to coach guys that are very talented both on and off the field. That’s really why I wanted to be the head coach at Notre Dame. I wanted to be able to continue to work toward the academics and the achievement that we had and develop a championship football team.”

Let's see if I can steer this thing back on track...

I just re-read Kelly's comments and it hit me, he says: "Generally at this time, I usually have to begin by saying I'm not interested in any other jobs, I'm only interested in the job I have here at the University of Notre Dame,"

My problem with that statement is that he implies he's said it at other jobs in the past. Well, it was untruthful at least three times in the past; when he was at GVSU, when he was at Central Michigan and when he was at Cinci. Is it the truth now?

I don't think he would make a good pro coach like most of the people on this board but does Kelly think that? Just sayin...

There is LITERALLY no coach at ANY major college that was born into his role. They all worked there way up to that point. Jim Tressel, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer... I challenge you to find me a single who has not left a school for an upgrade multiple times in their career.

BK is NOT going anywhere and there are NO legs to this story. What scares me is if people on this board believe this crap at all maybe impressionable recruits do.

I'll be happy to be found wrong about this, but unless I see/hear Clayton clearly saying/identifying Brian Kelly by name, I'm assuming that he either actually said "Chip" or meant it and misspoke. The whole concept is nonsense and neither BK nor ND can be fooling or fooled by it. Maybe I should make one up: Abe Lincoln to make startling comeback to coach a team of Elvis Clones for the Keokuk Marauders of the 3-I league. Now THERE'S a conspiracy which makes sense!!!

Neither Chip nor Brian Kelly would make an appealing NFL coach, nor would either man have reason to leave. They both are at ideal programs for what they do (Chip) or who they are (Brian).

Could you imagine NFL veterans trying to run Chip Kelly's break neck pace? It just wouldn't work.

Challenge accepted! Coaches that never left a school to upgrade in their career; Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden (I wouldn't consider WVU to FSU an upgrade at the time), John Gagliardi (St Johns Univeristy), Roy Kidd (Eastern Kentucky), Tubby Raymond (Delaware), and probably a lot more.

Living in Michigan I remeber Kelly doing this to GVSU, Central Michigan & Cinci all the while saying he was committed to (fill in the blank school). All I'm saying is we don't know what Brian Kelly is thinking. Everyone in Michigan "knew" Tom Izzo wouldn't be a good NBA coach but that didn't stop him from entertaining the Cavs last offseason.

Until Kelly says "I'm not going to Carolina" people will believe what ESPN reports.
