And to think Texas fans were so worried Muschamp would leave for Georgia.

Little did they know....

I'm gonna go ahead and say that FL fans won't exactly be thrilled with this hire, at least at this point. You know they were looking to land a big name.

That's a dumb move on Muschamp's part if you ask me. The expectations at Florida are going to be sky-high.

I don't know if there's a bigger name in College Football than Muschamp, with the exception of Stoops, JoePa, and Harbaugh. He's been groomed to take over as the head coach of Texas, I'd say that's a pretty big deal.

Well, while he is a big name, it looks like Florida fans (on their Rivals site, anyway) were really hoping for Stoops or Petersen. Some are happy with the hire, while most are apathetic.

He has NO head coaching experiance and Texas' defense was mediocore at best this year with 5* athletes throughout. I do not think this is a great hire for Florida.

On a side note, Texas has lost their offensive/defensive coordinators. Trouble in Austin or rebuilding time?

Well, this year shows it was already rebuilding time in Austin...so I'm going to say "trouble."

I'm not so sure the UF job is better than that UT job...however Muschamp talking the job...that is what he is saying. Looks like Brown will have to scramble now...not good timing coming off a bad season in Austin.

Honestly I think this is a great hire for Florida...The guy can coach Defense and he will be able to recruit for the Gators.

Texas' defense was just a wee bit better than mediocre, especially considering their offense was a cluster**** of turnovers and 3 and outs.

Muschamp has been in line for a few jobs.

Heck yeah he has. What made him change his mind to go to the SEC. Everyone was saying "Why would Muschamp want to go to the SEC to compete against Miles, Saban, Richt and what not"

Maybe... established talent base in Florida he may never have to leave?

I don't think this is on the awful panic level hire that U$C did with Kiffen... but he's got speed and talent now.

Who knows when Mack Brown is going to retire I guess? I always wondered what the fascination was with Muschamp. I think they made him the "coach in waiting" after one or two years at UT. Kind of strange to me how fast this happened too. Florida AD said they wanted Muschamp from the start. "From the start???" When was the start, 3 days ago???

We need a merge.

Ask and ye shall receive.

As for the hire, like someone else said, it *could* be a great hire. He was the coach in waiting at TX for a reason. Young, energetic, great defensive mind...could turn out to be a great coach. MANY ND fans wanted our AD to go after him last year. But it's definitely a risky hire for sure. Seems like a nice guy, but I hope FL still sucks for a long time.

1) Could be a great hire, but could be very risky because he's only been a coordinator. depends mainly on who he hires as his OC. we know florida's defense with him at the helm and their athletes will be solid. will be interesting to see who he surrounds himself with.

2) he grew up in and knows sec football

3) i would've stayed at texas if i were him. kids there grow up dreaming of nothing else but playing at texas. kids in florida have 3 big dreams. 1) florida 2) fsu 3) miami

I'd like to know what kind of money UF threw at him to get him out of austin, but it will be interesting. i for one just love his cursing tirade clips on youtube.
