Sad to see a smart kid (4.0 GPA) leave us for Florida..but I understand the family connection and hometown school effect. Wonder how many spots he'll jump in the next ESPN ratings? LOL

Saw it coming the mintue he got a Florida offer. To me he really wasn't commited to ND anyways. He was just buying his time until that fat Florida offer came down.

One of the reason I'm happy Alridge hasn't verbal to ND for things he said.

The part I find funny is what IrishEyes says on their website. "ND recruiting class is crumbling".

My how the press loves to go overboard on stuff. We lose two Florida kids because both wanted to stay in Florida and one wanted to play with his own brother.

I am already sick of all the damn fear mongering this week.

I was afraid this would happen if Florida offered. Not surprising since his brother is over there.

Sucks to lose him but he DID NOT decommit because of the Navy loss

Hate losing a recruit, but it's understandable why he wants to go to FL. Best of luck to him. We still have a solid recruiting class for 2011.

I just heard from a reliable source that I trust, that Clay Burton reached out to Notre Dame after Urban Meyer stepped down. Brian Kelly told him that he was no longer welcome at ND.

God, I hope that's true! He can take Lynch with him! Don't need them @ ND anyway!

If true, I love Kelly even more.

This is awesome.

If this is true my Man Crush on Kelly just got a lot bigger. Love it. The trains already left the station boys.

I was just thinking about this yesterday...would I take him back if I were Brian Kelly, and would accept him as a fan?

The 2nd answer is, as a fan, the 2nd he started balling for ND and making plays that lead to victories, I sure as hell would take him back. When it comes to winning I admit I have a short memory. And that goes for Lynch as well.

But then again, Burton is different. Lynch was conflicted, and he decided to switch, which sucks for us but it was the right decision for him (in his mind). Prestwood wanted to stay closer to home. Justice Hayes had something happen to him and he decided to flip. I'm OK with those things.

But Burton straight up lied to the coaches. They told him they wouldn't recruit him hard if he was waiting for a FL offer. He said he wasn't. They told him not to commit if he was still waiting for a FL offer. He said he wasn't waiting, and his mom even said his son wouldn't fit at FL. Of course, the 2nd FL came calling, he flipped. I know there's an allure to play with his brother, which is great, but he handled this completely wrong.

So as much as a stud as this guy is (and make no mistake about it...this kid is a complete stud and would fit in perfectly in our defense), if BK really did deny him, I can totally see why BK did it and I applaud his convictions.

But the greedy winner in me would love to see another FL stud on our defense...

When I saw that Meyer stepped down, the first thing that I thought of was Clay Burton. I was curious if Kelly would have interest in him still.

I love that response by Kelly if it did indeed happen. You're not only choosing a coaching staff but more importantly, you're choosing a college institution.

Would have been great for Kelly to tell him, he's welcome to play for the team, he would just need to make it as a walk on.

I think the key to recruiting the right players is getting the guys that would run through a wall for ND, that's the kinda player we need. Burton does not strike me as that kinda of player, he may do it for Florida but not us. I don't want us to be someone's second best. We need guys that want to be here no matter what happens, someone that loves ND!

Burton straight up lied to the coaches. He handled the situation completely the wrong way. I would question Kelly if he decided to let Burton back in the fold. We want high character kids who want to play for Our Lady, not a kid who would use the University as leverage to play where he really wants to be.

"I'm definitely shocked about it right now," Burton said. "I certainly didn't see that coming."

That list will shrink, as Rivals.com reported Wednesday that Tampa Alonso defensive end Anthony Chickillo won't be making his expected official visit to UF this weekend after hearing the news of Meyer's resignation.
