Alright, I have been thinking lately and I will throw the question to you guys.

If you are the AD at Michigan, do you fire Rich Rod or do you give him one more year.

I think I would give him one more year because the offense was improved and it seems like he is slowly getting the right guys, next year I would expect 9-3 at least with a win against OSU.

You give the guy at least 4 years (should be 5). If he gets a good defensive coordinator look out, Michigan is gonna be unstopable. He has the offense getting better and better. Every coach should get at least 4 years to show what they can do. After that, its all or nothing.

I do believe he keeps his Job even though he did lose to Ohio state. He has the offense rolling and with that young defense i think he has showed some progress.

I would can him. My reasoning is that while the offense is nice, the defense has no chance to get better. Next year they'll have 1 year under their belt so they go from "Worst ever" to "horrendous". The next year they lose Mike Martin and VanBergen and the process starts over.

Point 2 is that once they hit the meat of the Big10 schedule they got absolutely trucked in each game, it wasn't even competitive. They should have lost to ND, UMass, Indiana and Illinois. You go from 7-5 to 3-9 rather quickly.

Point 3 first time ever for penalties regarding the football team, regardless of what they were. Thats a black eye.

Time to drag out ole yeller into the woods and take care of business.

I don't really envy Michigan's situation.

Their team just does not have the talent necessary to get that much better on defense. They are legitimately the worst defense out of the BCS conferences.

And really, how much better can their offense get to off-set that??

Are they going to average 600 yards and 55 points a game? Because that's probably where they'll have to be if their defense doesn't get vastly better.

Just think about it, even if their defense jumps 40 spots (similar to what we've done this year), they are still about 70th in the country and horrible for Michigan's standards.

The only thing they have going for them is a pretty weak schedule next year, which could lead to a rather hollow and meaningless 9-3 record.

They'll get off to a hot start again and won't face a ranked team until mid-October, if not mid-November.

It is paramount that we beat them, otherwise they could seriously go 10-0 or 9-1 until Nebraska and Ohio State thrash them.

Michigan State's Recent Success is adding pressure on the U of M admin as well. I think if he ran a traditional offense he woule be canned already, but the fact U of M's program would have to start over in personnel and a much different system is going to grant him at least one more year.

I don't care for Rich Rod one bit..., BUT, he really should be afforded another year to try and do something. The big focus has to be on that horrible defense that frankly cannot stop anyone.

he hasnt won much in conference. but it has been an upward trend, from 3-9, to 5-7, to now 7-5.

rumor was if he lost this past saturday by a large margin he was gone today.

i think there will be a coordinator change but they wont fire him yet, unless they already have an absolute yes from harbaugh.

if it were me though, i would probably let him go.

I think that if they have a chance to snatch Harbaugh from Stanford then they should not hesitate to can RR. The only problem with that is they would have to retool their whole offense again as well as their defense. Then they would present major problems to opponents, including ND, for years.

The timetable is after their season. But since they are bowl eligible that's gotta wait a bit. But what's funny is that Harbough will be at their upcomming team banquet because his past team is being highlighted. Should make for interesting dinner conversatiom.

There offense is NOT unstoppable, far from it. Hard to pack muscle on your QB when he is your primary RB. Same formula for that team, false hope for 3-5 games, Denard banged up, .500.

Keep RR, I'm all for it. Does anyone listen to this guy talk? He is an idiot.

Basically, this come downs to two things:

1. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. But is it worth 10 in the bush? The AD has to be seriously asking himself what the chances are that he can get a sure-thing much better coach (not just a probably better coach) over RichRod. I'm sure he wants to let things play out, gauge interest from potential fits, etc.

2. What happens if I let him coach one more year? That is the million dollar question. I personally believe RichRod will havea good year next year, but how good is good enough to keep his job? And after you get 4 years into one style of team/offense... it becomes much harder to change it.

I fully expect Brandon to either have Harbaugh in his back pocket, or some other high profile coach, and then announce the day after the bowl game that RR will be fired. If he doesn't get a sure fire coach then count 2011 as a season long coaching recruiting mission to find the replacement. Either way RR is done.

As for the offense that is so stunning check out those MSU, Wiscy, OSU games etc. Held to 10 points or under in each of those blowouts. It wasn't until the other team was asleep at the wheel in cruise control did they mount any comeback.

Frankly I think the whole thing is a failure. From his arrogance to the probation to his comparing WVU/Pitt to OSU/Mich... Time to pull the cord on the chute.

Terrible defense.

An offense as far away from smash mouth as you can get.

Why would Harbaugh go to Michigan right now?
