They have a coach, Mike Longsley or something like that, who is just a beast on the recruiting trail. (Cal has a similar guy - look at the guys they have been getting, esp defensively) This Longsley guy has been getting some TOP players to look at New Mexico, whereas they wouldn't even take a glance at New Mexico otherwise.

NM's head coach, Mike Locksley, was Zook's Recruiting Coordinator at UF when Zook pulled in top classes there. He followed Zook to Illinois and Illinois jumped up in the recruiting races. Locksley was Arrelious Benn's Svengali when he turned to Illinois from ND.

Locksley was from Maryland. He played for Towson St. Then coached at Navy and Maryland where he was also RC. He has deep roots there.

Last season he hit was of his assistants and got a one game suspension. I don't know how good a coach he is but he's an ace recruiter. He connects with HS prospects.

Guess we are out of the running.

Five-star narrows list to a lucky 11
Five-star offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandijio from Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic, recently narrowed down his school to 11 schools: Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, USC and Virginia. It is expected that Alabama is the team to beat. The Crimson Tide signed his brother, Arie, back in February. Kouandijio, 6-7 and 325 pounds, is No. 6 in the ESPNU 150 and the No. 2 OT in the country.

wait a sec, whose the real NDinLA???

Me LOL. The troll changed his name just before he got banned. His 'breaking news' was reported like 36 hrs before but he was too lazy to read a couple posts before his. But he was still happy to report negative news for ND, late as he was.

Not an ALA lock. He has reservations about ALA because he does not want to take playing time away from his brother. There is a good chance he goes to Tuscaloosa but definitely not a lock.

He is also very good friends with the freshman rb at Iowa (Coker) and remains in constant contact with him.

His name is Locksely and he is a horrible coach with a sweet deal. He has one 2 games in 2 years and he is getting paid 1 million a year (including incentives). That comes out to 1 miillion per year. Wish I could make that.

ESPN had an article awhile ago about the intrigue he had about being a big fish in a small pond/going to small program and just blending in. Personally, surprised they've lasted this long so I guess he must be serious.

The question is not who likes Mike Locksley in New Mexico, but can the Lobos afford to fire him. About two-thirds of a recent poll said that in spite of a state budget crisis and still paying two other coaches back salaries, Locksley should go.

He was involved in a physical altercation with an assistant coach, who brought a lawsuit against the University. He and fired his secretary, which brought an Equal Employment Opportunity lawsuit against him. All in his first year, while going 1-11.

His second year brought the same record, but is considered a worse season. His players have increasingly run afoul of the law, which was rare under Rocky Long.

Season tickets sales are at their lowest since 1992. Their scoring defense is rated last (120th) in FBS last year - 44.3 pts/gm.

I imagine ESPN covered all that in their "big fish in a small pond" expose. He's just a bad but expensive coach. At this rate, he will smash Mike Sheppard's 9-50 mark as losingest coach in Lobos history.

Ok

He played at Towson, coached there. Spent a half dozen years or so with the Terps staff as Recruiting Coordinator. Moved to UF and then followed Zook when he went to Champaign. He's considered an Uberrecruiter.

As a coach he started out with DBs and Special Teams, also coached LBs, DLine and was a DC. On the offensive side he's coached RBs, TEs, and QBs and been a OC.

Aweesome OLine Haul

Aweesome OLine Haul

I think this is the stunner of NSD.

They got Westerman to swtich from Texas late in the cycle then pull in Cyrus from their arch rivals at the buzzer.

Rivals #1 and #3 OTs.

Rivals #1 Center, Reese Dismukes

Rivals #2 OG, Greg Robinson

Rivals #43 OG, Thomas O'Reilly (what happened here? actually O'Reilly committed in April '10)

Good investment. Look at the return they got from buying Cam Newton.

I know quite a bit about Auburn and their NCAA hisory. They could still have the checkbook out but I think it's more a bandwagon effect.

They just won an NC. One blue chip (Frost?) defected from Bama to archrival Auburn during the USA AA Game. Westerman jumped ship from Texas two weeks ago. Cyrus (his first name is easier to spell) stiffed Bama and his brother to jump on the Auburn bandwagon.

Only about 15 minutes ago, Kelly noted that "kids notice wins". Auburn had 13. Further Auburn doesn't care if these kids go to class or not, graduate or not. Just do the minimum to stay eligible (which in the SEC means passing two courses a semester.

You would think that he would want to go to the colege level play on very good team with your brother. And they have a very good recruiting class as well.

I had him penciled in for Bama since last NSD.

Different strokes; different folks. Not all brothers want to play together. Some want to make their own make.

Last year Nick Montana chose UW over playiing with his brother. UW is no stranger to NCAA violations but nobody hinted there was pecuniary considerations.

Ha ha, imagine the Auburn-Bama game at the K household the next few years?

This game is already a game between 2 programs who might HATE each other more than any other rivalry in the country, and now it just went 'family' on us? Time to head to the mattressess for both fanbases...
