Facebooking Recruits...OK or not?

In my opinion, this is creepy. I'll admit, I don't get the whole social networking thing. Befriending people you don't know? Meeting people is one thing. But I think this boarders on stalking. If you want to meet people, recruits, players, etc. do it the old fashion way.

Following them on Facebook is OK but I'm undecided about the interaction. I guess my problem is that once it's deemed acceptable and commonplace then any idiot ND fan can cross the line and may say or do something offensive. How do you control all of the idiots out there? You know as well as I do that some people just don't have any sense or manners.....do you want them communicating with recriuts representing ND fans?

Not including re-posted quotes, creepy (26) has been mentioned 25 times. I think That may set record for internet threads.

and yes i think it is corny to add a high school kid (unless youre a sophmore in college or younger) as your friend but think it is ok to monitor them.

And didnt some recruit last year say one of the deciding reasons he bailed on ND was because of annoying ND facebook fans? I forget- that statement may not be accurate.

Additionally- anything Megan Fox, not creepy (27)

I am facebook friends with all the ND signees. No it is not creepy, its socially acceptable and most coaches use it as a recruiting tool.

I usually dont get all excited when a player comments on other players furute commitments. It seems tho that whenever one of the other commits says they are adding someone, it has come to truth. We will have to wait and see.

Is itfair to say that we will be entering a dead period in recruiting? With the limited number of spots available and the caliber recruit we are chasing, fair to say we might not hear anything until AA Under Armour game or even NSD?

I'm with you I'm friends on facebook with most of this years recruits. I only post a "thanks for the add and have a good year", but nothing else.

EXCEPT @ Terry I did poke Lynch, Rabasa and Tuitt and when they added me ;) J/K

Chris Martin said something along those lines.

I guess thats the crux of this argument here. When I am on facebook I interact with everyone on my friends list at some point during a month period. I guess its just the way I use it. I just don't see the sense in adding someone you A> Don't know and B> Will not interact with. Aside from saying "DOOD I WAS HIS FACEBOOK FRIEND (along with 10000 others) WAY BACK IN THE DAY" when the guy is a star.

Creepy. Without a doubt. I guess the word friend means something different to me. If you are out in the world on your own and you are befriending kids who still live with their parents -- who you don't really know and have never met in real life -- it is creepy. Imagine if it were 17 year old girls... I'm guessing there could be jail time involved... Or at least a Dateline NBC camera!

Creepy ... yes. Like the information that comes from those who are friends with them ... yes. I'm not going to "friend" them but I'm cool with the insights from those who do ... even though I think it is a little creepy.

their is a Decline button so if they don't want someone to be their friend, just tap that button.

their is nothing wrong with just wanting to follow their path through recruiting, because alot of their status' are talking about recruiting.
just don't try to become buddy buddy and creepy on them.

i personally am not friends with current recruits.

Creepy. Period. Way creepy. Especially if you're older than college age.

I find it odd. I friend people that I'm...well...friends with.

If I were a recruit, I hope I'd decline any other friend request. But, who knows. I'm also not 18 anymore. It might be a trip.

I agree, the Irish fans go wild on recruits facebook pages and they just keep adding on to the negativity, prime example is aaron lynch's facebook

It means that people are giving him **** over twitter. Which reminds me (directed to no-one in particular), NEVER talk to/facebook friend/twitter the athletes. Unless you are a coach or you are a student at the school, the full extent of athlete-fan interaction should be "hi, great game. Can I have your autograph."

difference in generations.
our generation likes interaction like this.
im not saying this is what happened to hayes, but it's the rumor with that happened to lynch. if a kid doesnt want to come to a school because of a couple stupid fans saying something stupid, then he doesnt belong in college period.
if your ultimate goal as a football player isnt football and school,in any order, and you let fans dictate what you think...you're not that bright.

Has no bearing on generations.. Do you know this guy? Opinions mean everything. One stupid post leads to rampant speculation and eventual mud slinging and said person says "To hell with that school".

I agree with your assessment of listening to fans, but these are 18 year old kids who think they are rock stars. While they are on to world domination, their brains are still too immature to deal with this false stardom.

I'm not saying don't follow the guy, even though I find it creepy, but for anyone to post or reply anything in relation to some kids recruitment twitters or facebookings is just odd in my opinion.

I'm 24. It's not a difference in generations. It's ok to follow the athletes on twitter or read facebook, but not to make contact with them. Period. For one thing, if you've ever paid money to ND (even for a hat!) you might be breaking NCAA rules. It's uncertain, but not impossible.

generations?

i am from the same "generation" as you are and i find the conversing with recruits via facebook absolutely pathetic. friend them, fine. follow them, fine. beg them to come to your school? cmon man.

anyways, arent you the one who got into an argument with louis nix via facebook just last month? :eek7:

I was suppose to meet a recruit for coffee then maybe catch dinner and a movie, how is that wrong?

Should we just get coffee?

I think its OK. I have several on mine. Its nice to see their reactions to things happening, them trying to recruit others, and how much some are just as much fans as they are recruits. Its ok to throw a positive comment on their board sometimes. However, I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS OK TO CONTINUALLY PLUG YOUR PROGRAM TO THEM, BASH THEM IF THEY DON'T COMMIT, OR TRY TO LURE THEM IN OUR DIRECTION IF THEY ARE UNCOMMITED.

^actually on his FB 11 hrs ago someone asked if he was taking a visit to USC and he said he was.

EDIT: actually what is written is

"Hope you stick with your commitment...saw you might be taking a trip to USC...."
his response was
"Yeah I am"

he could be refering to the visit or sticking to his commitment.

You should probably let Brian Kelly recruit him and stay out of this kid's life.
