Brissett on Notre Dame, Spurrier and playoffs

Palm Beach Gardens (FL) Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett just completed his third official visit, this one to Notre Dame.
“It’s one of the most historic schools in college football,” Brissett said. “It was one of the nicest campuses I’ve been to.”
Irish coach Brian Kelly told the 6-foot-5, 225-pound signal caller what he expects from Brissett if he were to play his college ball in South Bend.
“He just told me straight up he wanted me to come in and compete for the starting spot, and be able to run the offense he wants to be able to run because with this quarterback now they can’t really run the ball with the quarterback and stuff,” Brissett said. “He wants me to be able to come in and add that dimension to the team.”
Those words resonated with Brissett, especially at a program that was at the top of the college football landscape.
“That was a big thing for me to hear, going in and starting a quarterback and taking Notre Dame back to the level they were at before is pretty big,” said Brissett.
Brissett’s other official visits to date have been to Wisconsin and LSU. When asked if he had scheduled any other official visits Brissett admitted to not having a date, but did have another destination in mind.
“I don’t have them set up, but I’m thinking about taking a visit to South Carolina,” Brissett said. “You are playing for one of the greatest coaches to ever coach college football in Steve Spurrier. Playing for him, being an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach, having him leave a mark on you is second to none in college football.”
Florida State is another school heavily in the mix for Brissett. He has been on campus numerous times.
“The opportunity (at Florida State) is pretty much everywhere else,” Brissett said. “I feel with my skillset and the workout program we have I can go anywhere and compete for the starting spot and eventually get reps and hopefully get in the game.”
Brissett and his Dwyer teammates begin defense of their 4A Florida state title Friday night when they host Stranahan (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). In Brissett’s eyes it’s a clean slate for every team including his one.
“I don’t really think of it as a repeat because it’s over from last year. We just like the other teams. We’re gunning for them just like they are gunning for us. We are trying to go for a state title.”
Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett talks on a wide variety of topics including his Notre Dame visit, coach Steve Spurrier, and his upcoming playoffs.
